Tikka's are my personal favorite and are basically the standard for modern day bolt action rifles.
Weatherby are acceptable and quite cheaply available.
Howa is Japanese made and quite good.
Pre-Freedom group Remington (not modern day unless you check the rifle personally and know what issues to look for.
Swiss Schmidt Ruben if you want actually good surplus that can actually hit stuff.
Mossberg is alright
Ruger can be pretty decent but I don't like them.
Mausers are great but surplus rifles are typically innacurate (because of age) and modern day Mausers are really expensive.
It's kind of hard to make a shitty bolt action.
also I fucking hate Mosins and I think they are just a historic novelty moreso than a viable rifle.
Anything specific in mind?

>are just a historic novelty moreso than a viable rifle
A couple grand could arm dozens of militiamen with simple durable rifles that can kill a bear after penetrating a building. I think they are very viable.
>>
>>34086917
Give me a break. This thread is not arming a milita with a fetish rifle, it's about someone who's new to guns trying to figure out what kinds of options he has for a good rifle.
>>
>>34086812
I would give Mossberg and Savage a look.

Affordable, accurate, and easy to find.
>>
>>34086891
This. If you get lucky you can find a custom Mauser that hasn't been shit on for pretty cheap. Just to get an idea about what is your price range?
>>
>>34086917
So could 95% other guns on the planet with the added benefit of not being pieces of shit defended by poorfags on the internet.
>>
>>34087021
This. I bought a mossberg mvp patrol for $600 new a couple years back. Very accurate, has iron sights with a front fiber optic, barrel is factory freefloated, and takes AR mags steel or pmag to name a few nice things. Cant say I have any issues with it except I wish the magazine hold was more positive with steel mags, pmags dont rock in the mag well though.
>>
>>34086812
>I want to use it for traget shooting and hunting.
Savage 110.
>>
I'm not in the market for a good value bolt action right now but if I was I'd get a Savage hands down.

You can find a nice well cared for pre-freedom group Remington or any modern Savage for great prices in all kinds of affordable calibers. If you're really new, 243 is relatively inexpensive and a light recoiling and accurate round that's good enough for deer. 270 and 7mm-08 are also great choices.
>>
>>34087115
I was really tempted to buy one of their 308 bolt guns for my scout project but went Savage instead. I do want an mvp though for the silly states I can't bring my ar to.

Any advice on a 5.56/.223 boltgun?

want to do some scoped shooting but don't have the room for more then 200 yard shooting and sipping off my AR ammo instead of buying a separate/more expensive calibur.

Will I want to buy heavier rounds then my usual 55 grain plinking special or will a scrub at these ranges not notice?
>>
>>34086812
Second and third up from the bottom of your own picture. M96/38 and M96 they're called. Swedish Mausers are legendary

I'm a Milsurp junkie and 2 rifles that surprised me with their accuracy are the K-31 and Swedish M96 Mauser. Both shoot great cartidges suitable for both hunting and target shooting. You can easily find reloading components for either caliber and the quality of rifle either way is head and shoulders above what you'd get at the same price point from modern commercial rifles. You can find examples of each with good bores pretty easy as Sweden and Switzerland never really used corrosive ammo in either rifle and were pretty good about cleaning since they never had a major conflict during the period of issue.

That being said, if you want a good modern rifle pick up a Tikka T3x in .308 and stick a mid range Nikon on it and call it a day.

Mossberg MVP, uses ar mags.

>>>34087115 This guy likes his.

Only buy a milsurp if you're a collector. I am, and own four milsurps at present, but there's no reason to get one otherwise. the days when you bought milsurp just to get a cheap shooter are long gone, and aren't ever coming back.

For a decent shooter at a decent price, the Savage Axis II and the Ruger American Rifle are both excellent choices. Both can be found in the $400-ish range brand new, and both come in a variety of calibers, including .223, .243, and .308

If I want to larp as a swat sniper what is the most common rifle configuration they would go with?
>>
>>34087395
Ruger 10/22
>>
>>34087395
Smooth-bore mosin.
>>
Have any of you owned rifles by husqvarna? I'm seeing some used fn98's in 30-06 for around $300-350 CAD and it sounds like a good deal but I never hear people talking about them
>>
>>34086812
got me a CZ 550fs in .308 and love it to death but a good and decent priced rifle would be the ruger american if you are looking for reliable and cheap

also for target shooting and small game id recommend a 22lr rifle of some sort cause ammo can get pricy if you plan to go out to the range often with something with a larger caliber
>>
>>34087449
I didn't know chainsaws could be used as firearms
>>
>>34086917
I miss the good ol days when a $100 bill was synonymous for nugget. When they were affordable by even the poorest of poorfags... Nowadays they've gone up so much that there really is no point in buying one for any practical purpose. That said I'd still love to get myself an M44 one day.
>>
>>34087068
Up to 1000 dollars.
>>
>>34087251
Thx for the help. I really appreciate you going the extra mile with cartridge suggestion. But i do have some experience shooting. I just recently started owning
>>
>>34087449

I'm about to pick one up, heard fantastic things about swedish mausers.
>>
>>34087341
While i do have some shooting experience, im still preety new, could i handle the 308 cartridge in a realworld hunting scenario?
>>
>>34086812
Ruger American. Also you shouldn't have bought the glocknade. Try and trade it for a cz or something.
>>
>>34087341
Tho the swidish m96 mauser sounds really good. It also came up allot in this thread
>>
>>34087351
Is the 223 really viable for hunting? Specifically deer hunting.
Sorry for the stupid question. Im preety new
>>
>>34089349
I dont know, its really comfortable for me to hold and shoot and carry around. I also managed to preform preety well with it at the test. But what are the negatives that i sould be aware of in order to consider replacing it?
>>
>>34089415
its a /k/ meme. Glocknade refers to glocks shit .40s&w slides that weren't machined to handle the pressure and would blow up.
>>
>>34086812
>I want to use it for traget shooting and hunting.

What have got against tragets? What did they ever do to you?
