No one else here cares about the Stuckists enough to hate them.

/ic doesn't know enough about art to have an opinion about movements. Renderings are the only things that live here.

How do I know how crowded the windows in the red oval should be? Since I'm looking down, I know the windows should look more crowded as you go down, but is there some method to determine how crowded they should be? Currently I just went by rough conjectures.

Creating a meme artstyle that allows me to sell my work for a lot of money. That way I will be able to live a comfy life, eating in expensive restaurants and maybe traveling every once in a while.

No one on /ic/ is very interested in artistic achievement so expect many "make lotsa maney XD" answers.

How can I capture the blurry mess of Lsdino with only a pencil?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
That is a question for you and your pencil, anon
>>
just look closely at it it's there on the picture
make it grayscale if you have to
draw it a couple of times you'll figure it out
>>
Draw/shade like normal, run a tissue all over the drawing afterwards

Not sure if this belongs here. I'm not an artist by any means but last night I had an idea to animate a painting from the 19th century. I spent all of today messing around in After Effects and came up with this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85qukvwUPlU

What do you guys think? What works? What doesn't? Should I continue animating the rest of the painting?

It looks good actually. Although I'm a huge fan of hudson river school stuff already. I'd rather not touch their work like that o.O

You've got trees, light rays/clouds. I don't know how you'll animate those however.
>>
The idea is neat but I think you chose a part that doesn't contribute. Especially since the entire body of water is suppose to be in movement. Some leafs moving in the wind or an actual animation of your own that blends in might have a better effect. Good first try though.

>tfw you were gonna join an art college and try to make it as a video game artist but you saw the light at the last second

>>

you'll have a stable career in web development, but you'll never do much freelance art. you just won't have a prayer of competing with the full-timers, and all the jobs you manage to get will pay so piss-poor compared to your web design, you'll stop bothering with art jobs for money.

nothing wrong with being a hobbyist, but don't fool yourself that you'll ever be more than that. art is all or nothing.

hey /ic/, just wondering how to get started on drawing inanimate/geometrical objects? i've been working on humans for years but can't even sketch a prop without it looking wonky... also how do you generally approach light on form?

i've asked these questions before in the thread but no one answered so yeah, sorry about this and thanks in advance!

/ic/ is a slow board, don't expect your posts to get replies within an hour or even a day.
To answer your question, you go about drawing inanimate objects the same way you go about drawing people. Building up from shapes.

Working from perspective, you apply the most basic shapes to capture the form of the object you're trying to draw. In this case, a mug would be a base ellipse circle and another larger ellipse circle some distance above it. Then you'd connect two lines from the ends of one circle to the other.
>>
>>2956030
thanks so much for the reply! sorry i was asleep lol, but yeah i did check back but my questions were completely buried... question thread moves too fast.

please, do you always have to work off perspective e.g. using grids? what about more complex shapes and detailing, and do you have any tips about thinking in terms of 3d form? i'm just awful at this stuff.
>>
>>2956531
Go to the Books thread and find the link for Ernest Noling's Perspective Made Easy. It's a short book and should help you with applying shapes in perspective, even complex ones.

This isn't the message, but I got a little interested in the painting and did a simple google search. It's one of Francisco Goya's 14 black paintings. This one is called Saturn Devouring his Son. It's an interesting interpretation because the way I was told made it seem he devoured his sons whole, while Goya's interpretation is a cannibalistic view. That being said, it's Saturn devouring his son, and the black box is over the ass. Uranus.

I'm trying to revisit my understanding of Loomis because my faces are coming out weird and I'm almost positive it's because I'm fucking the construction up somehow.

Attached is an example of how I apply what Loomis teaches. I try to draw the best circle I can and then using four points I map out the brow line. Is this the correct method of starting the construction?

You are too technical about it, just loosen up.
The skull isn't a perfect circle its just kind of like one.

Post faces.
>>
>>2957228

Voila.

Maybe it's more an issue of me not placing the features correctly, but my good friend Loomis says that this shouldn't be an issue with good construction.

>do you get a grasp of concepts unnaturally fast regardless of how much time you spend practicing?
>if not, do you draw 12 hours a day and get minimal or no improvement at all?
It should be really easy to know.
>>
>>2953711
yes. but you only get individual skills not entire skill sets. A person might be good at seeing spacial relationships but that doesn't mean they can draw. they may have excellent hand eye coordination bot cant see values. etc. now get back to drawing and work on those weak points.
>>
skill = talent * (work * quality of work)

You're underestimating how skilled you have to be to copy someone's style. You won't be able to make it better because you don't know what you're do.

By the way - this won't get you laid.

no need to, thanks
