Anybody doing drawing AND sculpture?

If so, is it worth?

Pic semi related, not mine.

yes. Sculpture teaches you how to see form and light more then still life drawing, because you can just sculpt something and then change it a little bit different and observe how values change depending on the form.
>>
>>2953341
As long as it's representational sculpture and not conceptual, yes it's very good.

At some point you'll have to choose between painting and sculpting though.
>>
>>2953341
yes, even zbrush or whatever is in fashion these days is a useful thing to know

What do you guys use to promote your drawings en masse, and get large ammounts of likes? Any techinques?
Here I've drawn two relatively simple sketches, which...normies seem to like, and that combined with a simple question, 1 or 2, invites them to comment, resulting in popularity spike of the post basically pinning it to the top of said group's page.

You're a massive faggot, but the drawing is good for what it is, a shitty sketch. Normies like sketches more than finished drawings I've noticed
>>
Interacting with viewers is always good. I like to give them options to choose what should I draw next.
>>
>>2942225
You only need bells and whistles to attract normie attention. Ask for their two cents on anything, give them some apealing picture, no matter the quallity and they'll be all over you.

Guys, I don't know if this is where I should be asking but I can't get a good answer out of the people I've been in contact with. I got this painting at an estate sale because of the artist. I can't find anything about it online, can anyone assist me with finding some info out. I'm 98% positive it's the real deal.

How do I enjoy drawing/art? I absolutely loathe every second of it, but it's the only thing I can do--and barely. Disabled. On the spectrum of legally blind. On SSI & section 8. Drawing is utter hell for me for the fact that I can barely see and it's a pain in the ass....but it's the only thing people will pay me for. And I need extra money, being below poverty and not able to "have a real job".

I've tried changing subject matters. I've tried everything from anime weeb shit, furry, and realism. All of them I hate the same. I'm so sick of drawing, but it's all I have. I have a couple other hobbies I actually enjoy doing, but no one will throw money at me for them (or I can't find the right location/audience).

I also think I quite suck at art, too. And, so do MANY other people, despite having people who will pay me. My art is often bashed. People try HARD to "make fun of me"...especially my furry crap, but I just don't care. I don't feel any kind of emotion when my art is bashed, because I'm not emotionally attached to it. People have even expressed their dismay that I don't show any reaction compared to other artists who will whine and cry if their art is made fun of.

I don't know...what can I do to make art less literally-physically less painful for me?

Consider that people who draw at older ages tend to make shitty work at first and making shitty work when your older really sucks, so its not unusual to feel that way. I hated drawing because i made garbage with my sausage hands whenever i put pencil to paper, i started to love it when i started to drawing with more proficiency.

Or perhaps its just not the thing for you, who knows man, i dont know you at all. Its definitely pointless to spend your life doing something you hate but for somethings you gotta deal with a lot of bullshit before you really enjoy it, No one enjoys musical instruments when they just pick them up and suck total balls, but you muscle through it to get to the fun part.
>>
I think you're mentally blocked in thinking art is the only thing you will be able to make money with. Unless you're already really good it's a bad idea. I mean, pursuing art as a career is debatable anyway, but if you don't enjoy it - hell, even loathe it - forget it. You will never be able to put as much work or thought into it as people who truely love their craft. Being almost blind and bad with colors isn't making it easier either. You're delusional if you think it's art is the best thing you can persue. I wonder how you even started to draw if you absolutely hate it?

tl;dr look for another job, anon

I'm 32. I've been drawing since I popped out. It's been just one long string of bullshit where I'm the best drawer in my kindergarten class, so teachers throw a huge deal about it because "Ooooh look this precious child can draw a cat with four legs instead of six!" So they pressure me to do it more...and more...and more....and I even went to fucking art school.

I only ever did it because I was told to, and not getting into a huge tldr history, I'm a CSA/abuse survivor so my line of thinking has always been so fucked up.

I never liked it, and as I have to do it more in life to make a buck (since I can't actually work due to disabilities), I HAVE to if I wanna eat. I just hate it more as the years go by.

Have you ever ran into a person that says "art cant make money?" Would you quit your art goals because of that or dig deeper into the catacombs of becoming a better artist?

Everyone has. They're just crabs. Art is a career and therefore has a path that can be walked upon and done. Just like any other career. No difference.

So I've had some problems and wasn't able to draw for a year or so.
Now I have immense trouble getting back into the flow.
I was working like a well oiled machine before, for the first time in my life I fear the empty canvas now. I have no idea where to start and what I am even doing, because I operated on instinct most of the time.
I constructed, inked, colored for 10 years straight digitally and knew what I was doing by muscle memory.
Now I'm sitting in front of my new desk and I completely blank and when I start to ink something I fucking lose track of the flow and fuck it up.

What do? I need rehab.

Talk to a therapist not underage weabbos
>>
>>2954701
I doubt a therapist knows about art other than therapeutic clown painting.
>>
I would try to ease back into it. Start small--draw only for maybe 30 minutes and keep it something simple and easy, whatever you are most comfortable with. Do this each day and gradually increase things until habits are formed and you are past any mental walls.

>>2954704
A therapist deals with the mental side of things, not the art side of things. An this is a mental issue.

I'm struggling with head turns, what's a good book that will help with the subject?

I'm currently going through Loomis's Drawing the Head and Hands and Burne Hogarth's Drawing the Human Head. While the latter has some really great methods on dealing with how much cranial mass should be shown in the back based on the amount of turn in the pose, I am struggling in figuring out how to properly place the contours of the foreshortened forms of the eyes, nose, and mouth barrel.

I specifically struggle in placing eyes based on head turn. I have seen many diagrams showing axis lines hinting how to place eyes on a turned head (like pic related) but my heads just don't turn out that way. There is some bit of knowledge I'm missing in order to check my eyes are correctly placed. Eyes are easy in a purely front or side-view but as soon as the head turns and the nose starts to overlap and the eyes themselves foreshorten, everything falls apart.

Are you constructing the eyes properly and drawing through everything? If you draw the eyes as spheres and the nose as a pyramidal shape then you should be able to properly rotate those in perspective and place them correctly.

If you post your work I could point out what exactly looks off to me or what you may be having trouble with.

I think my issue lies with rotating simple shapes in perspective, would you be able to recommend a good book on how to rotate boxes/ellipses in perspective?

I'm guessing the Scott Robertson book, right?

>I'm guessing the Scott Robertson book, right?
Nah, that's a bit more advanced and it's geared more towards constructing mechanical things like vehicles. I think the Peter Han course/draw a box would be helpful and you could just study some basic perspective. You could try Ernest Norling's "perspective made easy" or Marshal Vandruffs perspective video series. Both aren't too long and give you the basics of perspective. From there it's more about practicing and grinding it more than anything since the basics of perspective aren't too difficult to understand. Just try to draw like 200 boxes and pages and pages of ellipses/spheres and your understanding of 3d shapes will go through the roof. I "understood" perspective for a while but it wasn't until I did pages and pages of basic shapes that I truly began to internalize it and do a better job of it. You just gotta draw a shit ton of them to get a better understanding of form and go from there.

Do you only wan't critique on this specific page and only in terms of general composition and art quality? You can't really judgd a comic, or any sequential art, by a page or panel alone. Give us a link and we can rate your comic according to its medium.

What does /ic/ think of Jan Urschel? I just discovered him, I really like his work. You can see the FZD influence but I think his stuff is pretty nice.

Some of his stuff looks very photobashed which really kills it for me completely. Otherwise his stuff looks fairly generic to be perfectly honest. Not to say he might not have a good deal of skill in his field.
>>
>>2956200
I always thought photobashing was pretty common industry-wide to get a basic mood on the canvas, although fair enough if it's still present in finished images to be posted on a portfolio.

How does one get into this kind of work? I know FZD is a common route but it seems a lot of money for stuff which you can essentially learn online. If I already have experience in CG and photoshop work, mainly for architecture, how easy would it be to transition into film/video game design?
>>
>>2956187
He's very very skilled. I don't think it's actually a FZD influence really either since Jan has been around a lot longer than Feng and I think is working at a much higher level too.

you do gesture drawings/digital portraits for twelve hours a day... but do any of you even know why?

>Im improving my hand!!!
this is not boxing, drawing is not a muscle. If you draw like crap for years doing studies meant for professionals/people who are actually good to work more efficiently, you have only gotten better at drawing like crap faster. You are doing studies to get good at doing studies.

Any improvement you see doing what ic tells you is accidental or you're deluding yourself
