Equifax breach: Chief Security Officer Susan Mauldin sacked

>
When Congress hauls in Equifax CEO Richard Smith to grill him, it can start by asking why he put someone with degrees in music in charge of the company’s data security.

>And then they might also ask him if anyone at the company has been involved in efforts to cover up Susan Mauldin’s lack of educational qualifications since the data breach became public.

>Late Friday Equifax said both Mauldin and the company’s chief information officer have been retired effective immediately.

>Equifax “Chief Security Officer” Susan Mauldin has a bachelor’s degree and a master of fine arts degree in music composition from the University of Georgia. HerLinkedIn professional profilelists no education related to technology or security.

>This is the person who was in charge of keeping your personal and financial data safe — and whose apparent failings have put 143 million of us at risk from identity theft and fraud. It was revealed this week that the massive data breach came due to a software vulnerability that was known about, and should have been patched, months earlier.

>Her LinkedIn page was made private and her last name replaced with “M.” Two videos of interviews with Mauldin have been removed from YouTube. A podcast of an interview has also been taken down.

>Unhappily for the scrubbers, the internet archives some material and atranscript of one interview has survived.

Does that image contain a tag for a designated color space?

Perhaps Chrome now ignores, or does actually apply, that color space transformation.

Bug in Chrome 61. Don't update. But if you already have:

Hey /g/ , do you think you would be able to help me out with a broken HDD?

I have this old Samsung 1TB HDD thats been broken for like 6 years now. I think i smashed my PC with a fist back in the day and it damaged the disk. Now its making clicking noises (will upload a sound clip if anyone requests)

So i can hook it up, but it appears as pic related in Disk Management and i cannot initialize it, it just spits some errors.

Anything i can do to salvage this?

Are you trying to use a broken HDD? You might as well write your files to /dev/null.
>>
Stop trying to fix this. Shutdown and disconnecr it right now before yoi totally fuck it. You might still be able to get your data off it with ddrescue or something similar.

Go buy a new HDD and stop using this one...

Just for shits and giggles, I want to make a small script that deletes duplicate files from any directory. Movies, music, pictures, text, whatever.

Is it safe to calculate the hash value of each file for this or do I need to actually compare each byte to be absolutely sure?

Should be fine, just make sure to exclude C:\Windows, and also have a secondary script interface that lets you select what duplicate files to delete and which to keep (or to keep both).
Otherwise you'll end up with the problem of some programs not working because some 3rd party library DLL was deleted due to being a duplicate of the same DLL found in some other program folder.

I have some questions about using SSH as a fileserver. I hope you can help me answer the following :

I am setting up a file server. I use ssh for this purpose because I think it is the best option for linux users.

It seems simple enough to just do chmod 0600 on the users directory. The real problem is setting permissions on all the stuff he should NOT have permission to. Obviously he needs access to the ssh commands or else he won't be able to use the server for the upload/download purpose. Does this mean I should restrict all the commands he should not ? And how would this affect the system as a whole ?

I looked up chroot as an option, but I think there might be better options out there ?

I am not scared of the user doing bad things. The problem would be someone getting access to the server trough the users account.

allow only sftp with `ForceCommand internal-sftp`
