Why are most of the popular flavors so ugly out of the box?

gnome looks like someone thought they were making a desktop for mobile and it somehow ended up on pc.

KDE plasma and Cinnamon just look like a prototype of Windows XP, but they fucked up and realized it wasn't 2002 and added windows 7 functionality to it.

Gnome is made to be exactly that, so I don't know what you expected.

That was a fucking joke and it turned out to be true... Fucking christ, that explains the fucked up dimensions and the oversized icons.

it's not. But it was made with touch interface in mind

The age of consent is 16 in most civilised countries. It's 18 in California and a few other US states. Since Cali is the home of so much of the world's mass-market cultural output, I assume this is where the "<18 = underage" thing came from.

17 makes perfect sense for a "virtual waifu", especially when you consider that it will mostly be appreciated by men in their late teens and early twenties.

They're trying to sell them an android ripoff and it's main feature seem to be the facial emojis for a price of $999!! This is fucking insane, I think it's pretty obvious they're taking a gamble to see if people will fall for this shit or not, this is also why they are releasing iPhone 8 and 8s as a backup, they know what they're trying to do here. If this works out for them it's gonna get even more ridiculous next year. Apple are really greedy as fuck, they're trying to trap their costumers in a web and that web is only going to get bigger, unless people call them out on their shit and refuse to buy it.

>>
>>62428697
that's why they skipped 9. to herd all the people waiting for "the next version" into the people waiting for "their best 10 year anniversary edition"

now they have a wider pool of suckers who got tricked, and they'll eagerly want to "upgrade" to the next (iphone X-2) which "fixes" the busted features and puts everyone back at square 1.
>>
>>62428730
Right, they're basically telling people to get the x, because the 8 is already fucking outdated. Not to mention that Apple fans would never buy a cheaper model because then the whole appeal and reason for buying is lost, remember how badly 5c failed?

I keep on downloading programming languages I find for audio and video without fully learning any of them. Anyone have tips for learning from the very beginning stages? Is it necessarily bad to be trying to learn multiple languages at the same time as a beginner?

>According to a 2015 study by the Japanese Cabinet Office, only 30% of Japanese high schoolers use laptops, and only 16% use desktop computers. (In the US, 98% of our teenagers use one or the other, with similar numbers out of the UK.) According to one study I found, about 50% of Japanese households have a computer, but many people don't use them, or only use them for games or web browsing. The majority of Japanese students use the internet exclusively through cell phones.

You do know that Japan is actually not at all hi-tech in the computer department? They still think running clientside code on websites is this fancy rare thing. Their hayday was much earlier, 70's-80's. Weeb.

what happened to Jan Sloot?

>"It is not about compression. Everyone is mistaken about that. The principle can be compared with a concept as Adobe-postscript, where sender and receiver know what kind of data recipes can be transferred, without the data itself actually being sent."

>In 1995, Sloot claimed to have developed a data encoding technique that could store an entire feature film in only 8 kilobytes. For comparison, even with the most modern techniques, a very low-quality video file normally requires 10,000 times more storage space, and a higher quality video file could require 175,000 times more data.

>On July 11, 1999 Sloot was found dead, in his garden[2] at his home in Nieuwegein of an apparent heart attack.[1] He died one day before an attractive deal was signed with Roel Pieper, former CTO and board member of Philips.

>The family consented to an autopsy, but no autopsy was performed. Sloot left behind his wife and three children.

We will never know, but I don't see how it wasn't a bunch of BS. A lot of clever people in the world not having replicated something like it in all this time? I don't think so.

>>"It is not about compression. Everyone is mistaken about that. The principle can be compared with a concept as Adobe-postscript, where sender and receiver know what kind of data recipes can be transferred, without the data itself actually being sent."

im not a real techie, but what does this mean?
>>
I'm someone who is normally eager to believe that these kind of people were assassinated because of what they knew, and maybe Sloot is one of those cases, but his technology was bogus.

Even if was not compression per-se, but was instead some method to `describe' content which is rebuilt by the client, encoding a full film in 8k is not possible, there's just too much data.
