Dont think the head is (easily) removable on them as they just bung the handle into it and probably have welded it there

Hypothetically speaking, If someone wanted to make a shit-ton of machetes as cheap as possible, where would they find suitable scrap steel and scrap lumber?
I'm not asking about tools and equipment, just sources for materials.

As someone who has used a machete a lot, If you want to make then comfortable avoid plastic or wood, use rubber.
>>
>>1123603
Is it because rubber gives you better traction or is it because it's a softer material?

Hey,
So I have this empty bottle with a really nice thick bottom. I'd like to cut the bottom out. I've never really worked with glass anyone know how to cut out the nice thick bottom?

Perhaps look up the method used to create cups from bottles. Will have to sand it after but should work. Unless you want to cut it with a diamond saw.

I want to build my own personal Rapture out of a shipping container. This seems doable if the air pressure inside is kept equalized with outside water pressure.

If it's 21 feet deep or less I shouldn't have to decompress in order to surface.

I assumed buckets of concrete for ballast initially at 100lbs each but that yielded an infeasibly high number of buckets, so I changed it to lead shot.

The weights need to be done this way so one person is physically capable of moving the lead out there by hand, adding it to the buckets bit by bit.

I plan to send fresh air down continuously via a pair of redundant oil free electric air compressors on a battery backup, with an alarm that will let me know if power is cut.

Anything I'm missing? Anything you'd add, or change?

Through some unusual circumstances I've come into ownership of some high-end woodworking equipment, including a Probotix Nebula 4-axis CNC Router(pic related).
I'd like to use this thing, but I have no idea where to start to learn how to use the software. This LinuxCNC software is like gobbledygook for the uninitiated, and I didn't even know 4-axis CNC routers were a thing before this, so I am VERY uninitiated.
Can anyone recommend a a good tutorial or superior 4-axis CNC software?

Use Mach3 and VCarve Pro, and start by only using the 3-axis section and getting to understand what G-code is and how the 3-axis works. Once you understand the 3-axis, the additional axis will be simple.
>>
>>1126605
What kind of files does it use?

Depending on what files it excepts you can just use some other open software to convert drawings to it. ESTLCAM or Fusion 360 may work for you.

Anyway...CNC router controls are pretty generic. I can't really recommend a good tutorial because, once you get down the absolute basics (how the coordinate system works, touching off, and glancing over the backplot to see if it does anything unexpected), there isn't much you really need to know. At least a rudimentary understanding of gcode and the most common commands (G0, G1, G2/3, G90/91) will help a lot. Any introductory "how do I into machining?" instructional will cover this, so just Googling anything along those lines will get you started.

I live in town on a half acre lot in a upscale community. I want a wine cellar and a few other underground rooms. Some ideas for use would be bowling alley, firing range and man cave. Space is a concern that's why I want to build everything underground to include utilizing the front and back yard with a hallway connecting front and back. I'd like to have part of the complex built under my driveway to utilize space. Does anyone know how thick concrete has to be to for walls and ceiling to effectively act as support?

New to DIY, was wondering if anyone could give me some tips.
I'm inheriting an old farmhouse within a year or so, currently not allowed to do any renovations to it (which it badly needs).
Its fairly large, 5 bedroom, middle of nowhere canada...
One of the issues is the outside, the paint looks similar (maybe not as bad) as pic related I found online.

I'm wondering if there is some shortcut or trade secret I could use, to avoid scraping the shit out of this huge house, which would require lots of scaffold and ladders, as well as probably weeks or even months of my time. Is it possible to just sort of get rid of the loose bits with a "once over" and then use some kind of paint or something overtop of the terrible looking chippy boards?
House is really old btw, so its probably lead based oil paint from 1920 or something.

Sand/water blast?
>>
A pressure washer will take off most of the paint.
>>
>>1126194
I've been told to not use a pressure washer because it will soak into unseen places in the house and cause a ton of rot.

Don't be too aggressive or impatient. Give it more time to cure than stated, expect it to take a long time. Font push your materials and know when to stop.

Most importantly, know when to stop. It's your first build, have realistic expectations.

A file will bite right into it. It seems soft enough that I could cut it with a tablesaw, but I'm not sure if this stuff will ruin the blade somehow.

Possible soapstone, op. Would definitely use a wetsaw and diamond blade.

Any jewellers here? I got this pocket watch for my birthday and I want to mess with it a little, grind it down and patina it and kinda age it a little. But I can't tell if this is legit sterling silver or what. It's non magnetic, but I figure out could still be some nickel alloy. Anyone know any relatively harmless tests I can do to make sure?

its more fun to hold down jagged sheet metal in your hand in the drill press. guessing if the bit digs then draws the work up the shaft or if it just grabs the work and spins it is part of the experience

Hi /diy/,
My question might seem stupid,it is basically the title.
Is there any way to make bricks without using clay or cement?

I'm working on a project and we have sand, straw, manure, but no dirt (not easily, at least)

I was looking into making adobe and such, and I know you're supposed to use clay, but I've seen a video (that I can't find now) where they only seemed to use sand, manure, and some sort of plant.

Thanks

>>
>>1125179
Yes, a traditional mix is of manure+sand, with straw to reinforce, mixed and beaten into a slurry.
It makes weaker blocks, is much less water resistant, and exposes you to pathogens. also, you need water to get it to mix well into slurry.

I sound like an oldfag now, but wth is your project, if we know what youre trying we may have suggestions in a completely different direction
>>
not that complicated
