Do you think people are objectively beautiful animals? Do you think other animals make fun of our nakedness and funny tufts of hair on the top of our heads?
I mean, if you look at birds, some of them put a lot of effort into looking beautiful, and we as people agree that they are so.
Also, it seems like the smarter the animal, the less energy it has to put into being beautiful.

worst thread of the week
>>2351350
But why? It's an interesting thought.
Are dolphins beautiful? We surely admire them.
>>2351348
I've seen animals try and mount people. They must think we're worth tossing a bone to at the very least.

Does anyone know a place that will take an orphaned house sparrow hatchling in or near the Los Angeles area (91403)?
I've already tried to contact multiple places and they won't take a house sparrow. The place I was referred to is closed for the night, so I'll try again in the morning.
I'm the meantime, do you guys know of any good places? Also, should I feed it at all? I did one small feeding of some water-moistened dry cat food, which is what I read online, but the places I've called have said to not feed it. Will it be okay with no more food or water for at least 12 hours? I have it in a basket on cotton stuffing with a heating bad on low underneath, with a towel over the basket. He's peeping away.
Why can't you put it back where you found it?
>>2350986
It was on the curb. I looked and found the nearest place where it could have come from which was a street sign. Inside I saw a nest but no other birds. I put it back anyways hoping the parents would return. Fast forward to today, I come home and see that it's fallen out again. I haven't seen any sign of parents for two days now. I think
It's safe to say that it is orphaned.

House sparrows are an invasive species. Just smash it's head.
I want to get a cat that can go outside and come back at will. The cat will sleep inside. I live in a rural area where all my neighbors have 2+ acre lands. I already own indoor dogs but I haven't had a cat since I was a kid and even then it was an indoor cat. My dogs are good with cats or any pets.
Any tips? I was thinking of going to the shelter and adopting a cat. Not sure if age would matter. How do I "train" it to go outside and kill pests and shit? I don't want it to run away and get lost or get killed by something. My neighbor has a spayed female cat that does the same (live indoors and goes outdoors).
I just want a cat that can go outside and do it's thing and come back.
>>2350835
You don't train a cat to kill pests, it just does it on its own for fun. Be aware that some cats are less experienced than others and can fail more often.
If you don't want it to get killed by some random person you can deminish the chances by putting a collar on it amd a nametag with your info, and/or a chip.
I'm usually against outdoor cats, but my LDR s/o has one, and has greatly deminished the pests around his place which used to cause problems. Keep your cat vaccined (specially against rabies), check for ticks and fleas, spay it, and understand it could get injured at any moment despite whatever you do. Keep a first aids kit nearby in case some wild animal injures it.
Also, get a friendlier cat, they have a higher chance of coming back on command.
>>2350848
Additionally, give it reasons to come back. Make your house comfortable for the cat, with places to rest, to climb, to play, otherwise they just won't care about going back in.
>>2350835
get a gun and shoot yourself
Why are all the collars sold for cats terrible quality? They usually don't even have a place for an ID tag. The fuck's the point of a collar without a goddamn ID tag? If they're not shitty or ugly, they're non-breakaway and unsafe. Where can I get decent collars that look nice and won't lynch my cat if he gets caught on something?
>>2350753
Use a slide-on ID tag?
>>2350757
I've only ever seen slide on tags for larger dog collars, probably because you can't get one on a breakaway collar. Ones that use rivets to attach to the collar work, but you can't fit anywhere near as much information on such a tiny thing.
>>2350753
Tbh it's best if you get a small dog collar. They're gonna be slightly loose even at their tightest so they can break away if they get stuck on anything, yet are tight enough on their fur that it won't slide off them.
If your cat or dog didn't alert or protect you during a break-in, and it either hid or was disinterested, would you keep it afterwards?
Also, what about if you had a seizure and it did nothing or peed on you while you were on the floor?
First question, yes because that'd mean that I fixed all the problems he has right now.
Second question - well, he's a dog, what is he going to do?
>>2350720
Yes, if you don't train it for that. If you didn't train it to attack intruders you have no one to blame but yourself, especially of its a friendly breed
Is Sheba a good cat food? What about Fancy Feast (the flavors without wheat and fish)?
>>2350660
Fancy feast is pretty shit and sheba is meh as far as canned foods go, but they are still better than just about all dry cat foods.
>>2350672
My only concern with Sheba is the artificial coloring. What are good cheap wet foods?
I got those Sheba 2 packs they came out with in the plastic containers. Seems good. A lot juicier than canned stuff and mine liked it.
Anyone know what kind of bug this is?
It looks like a Beatle, has pretty long legs and can fly
I live in Virginia
It's probably a June bug, it's that time of year where they like to fly into windows and garages and sometimes the side of my head

Help me decide between the following:
German shepherd
Golden retriever
Alaskan malamute
>>2350031
None of the above if you are too lazt to be a good owner.
alright OP here
first of all, these are my opportunities and demands from a dog:
i live in a apartment with my parents (no backyard), i'm a college student (which means i spend a lot of time in the house studying and i have a lot of time for the dog, to train him, take care of his needs etc)
i like large breeds (even tho small ones like corgi or pug are the ones meant to be in small flats), highly energetic dogs (which will go on a run with me, and not just fetching the ball, or going for a slight walk), also i would like less odor (not a big problem), grooming is not even a small problem, i don't mind hair everywhere in the flat even, but i just don't like if he/she would drool too much
feel free to ask me anything btw
also, i live in South Europe - warm climate, which would make the Malamute suffer...not nice... :(
