I don't get why people fixate on this event in particular, Iron curtain mystique I suppose. Pretty much everything "supernatural" about the incident is either not factual (added after the fact to make it spookier) or has legitimate explanations(eg. taking off clothing is a textbook symptom of hypothermia).

Schools have this education program, where they teach their students to only use deductive reasoning, for LITERALLY EVERYTHING, including their everyday mundane activities.

The assumption they're working off of is that everything which exists can be understood through deductive reasoning, and that if something can't be understood through deductive reasoning, then it doesn't exist. They haven't gotten to the part where they challenge that assumption with deductive reasoning, because that would be like an attack on their own ego.

Maybe they're actually visitors from other worlds, and they're doing fly bys to intentionally let humans see them.

Maybe they have governments too, and in their governments, using long distance craft to disrupt a planetary society in a way that leads to mayhem and destruction is considered an act of aggression, no matter whose arm threw the molotov cocktail once people start rioting.

Maybe the veeeery vast majority of humans, whether they're on the top or bottom, regardless, can't actually handle the possibility of visitors from another planet, and would panic if not rampage for months, years even, if they realized the implications.
