The void, lower magicians, etc tap the world tree to try and force an inversion or their own will upon a set system while more peaceable folk or spirits try and retain the balance and mend. Welcome to the world you probably never even knew. It's like every second is a grain of sand, and that grain of sand is dragging across the insides of your veins. Aware, you feel all, responsible for your bearing, and yet barely can muster the energy to stay a float due to the separation of heaven and earth. It's almost like both sides are clueless to the small matters of each, while there are systems in place to govern. The problems is when those systems get hijacked, and I've never seen a more hard working group out of disciplined care than the side of light. The dark is a cancer.

I'm actively trying to use positive thought to heal the world, especially those who are an active part of my life, such as family and friends.

I imagine alot of chaos magicians justify not doing that by claiming that people could use magic to help themselves, but they don't so they deserve to suffer. Pretty edgy bullshit if you ask me.

I think this assumes that everyone can access the occult/magic, which is pretty untrue. Two people can live identical lives, but one can be constantly flooded with supernatural experiences while the other hasn't ever seen an unexplainable occurrence or anything of the sort. I think it's a small number of people who know how to access the paranormal, even if they do it by accident, and so it's unreasonable to think that they could stop all evil.
