Well the sudden temperature drop last night (and resulting cold morning for me) have got me thinking about those 'autumn/winter' games. The kind you play when you want to be comfortable in a warm spot on a cold day.

I have a few of them myself, but as I realized last night, none of them are retro! So I'm hoping to see what games you /vr/ troopers play on a sunday late in the year when the weather turns cool and the blankets come out.

Did you ever fall in love with an old game even though you suck at it?
I have been playing Project Justice (sequel of Rival Schools) for a couple of days now and the game is fucking awesome but no matter how hard i try i cant even get through the fourth fight in arcade mode, same shit happens with the Tekken series i love it and i get hype every time a new game is announced but when friends come home to play video games they kick my ass.

So many,

Sky Kid
53 Stations of the Tokaido
Super Mario Bros. 2 JP (Lost Levels)
The Last Blade 2
The Ghosts n Goblins series
The non-Metroidvania Castlevanias
Bosconian
and I'm certain there's more. It's fine that I can't beat them because then any progress I make becomes rewarding. I finally 1cc'd Gradius 1 on the NES which had haunted me since childhood. Next I want to conquer it on the PC Engine.

Basically every fighting game and RTS ever. I absolutely suck at both genres due to having trouble with even the most basic underlying mechanics, and yet I'm still quite fond of them.

AFAIK it's simply red book CD audio.

You would simply create discrete tracks on the disc then point the game code to them?

I haven't played R-Type in a while, but my favorite is Delta. Game gets fucking real come stage 5.

R-Type is my jam. It started with R-Type DX, moved to R-Types on PS1 then branched out from there. I still spend a considerable amount of time playing R-Type on my PC Engine but my favorite, oddly enough, is the black sheep of the series: R-Type Leo

What system would you say you have the most amount of nostalgia for? By that I mean, systems where you can look at or listen to almost any game from it and it just feels "right".

For me it's the Game Boy Color (this model specifically) and the original Game Boy. Looking at those tiny graphics with the limited color palette and listening to the bloops and buzzes emitted by it just makes it feel like everything's perfect in the world. It's hard to describe.

Game Boy for sure
had GB, GBC, and GBA games
Had a yellow GBC and a platinum OG GBA

I emulate the games now but sometimes I miss the feel of a Game Boy in my hands

Haha, for 'some' reason, a thread i created to discuss SotN, which barely resembles the one created for AlttP, was removed. I don't want to think that some moderator went full retard, so i'll think it was because of some strange bug and create it again.

The controls, the setting, the music, the retro feel... Can we all admit that this game is perfect?

Do you want to close 4chan?

Are you the one they call 'australia-kun', or maybe you don't enjoy games with exploration and rpg features? Sotn is quite different from classic CV, which is the only thing that gets ever discussed here.

I fucking love Symphony of the Night. A lot of the music is good. The repetition in the second half of the game is kind of annoying, though.

The entire genre is basically my crack.

Exactly how influential is this game for video games as a whole? How can a game made over 30 years ago still be timeless and fun to this day?

Good gameplay is the reason. Easy to play, hard to master. it's interesting how it doesn't feel bullshit that you died because of an imprecise jump.
>>
>>3549560
momentum-based platforming is imprecise in of itself
mario is too slippery, at least in the original.
>>
>>3549632

>Mario is just to slippery

If you're a faggot who doesn't know how to play

Don't mind me. I'll just stay here being the worst game of the first 3. I'll stay here bowing down to the best game in the series AND best game ever made:
The curse of Monkey Island

Not even worth comparing them to be honest, all three are masterpieces for their own very different reasons. 2 probably is the worst as a standalone game but as a follow-up to the first game it's flawless.

I am most of the way through Doom 2 and I love chocolate doom. Most of the normal source ports have graphical effects or feel too clean in a way that takes away from the original experience. The texture smoothing just feels gross, and every source port feels like it's too bright in comparison to how the original engine rendered handled shadows.
>Pic related
Are there any ways to get something like Chocolate Doom running for Doom 1?

Does it support it natively? If so, how and how would I make that work? I have looked around and most of the guides I have followed haven't worked.

Shouldn't Chocolate work with all IWADs?

I very rarely see discussions on this series. Let's change that.

Hard to put into words really. I just really enjoyed the setting and the battle system.

Breath of Fire 2 Nina

I'm a sword man. The dragon transformation is probably my favorite skill in each game.

There's a reason for that you're gonna learn real fast.

>Which game in the series is your favorite?

4

>Why?

Best story and one of the best turn based battle systems on the playstation. Plus the Chinese korean mythology is a nice change of pace compared to the standard castle and dragons we got.

Plus dem dragons.

>Who is your favorite character?

Ursula.
