What gave it such amodernfeel?

Good visuals
Good camera and controls
Imagine if Earthworm Jim had great gameplay.. that'd be the bees knees.
>>3549086
It did, the problem was that the field of view was quite small and the difficulty was all over the place.

I didn't think the gameplay was good for both games. Most enemies stand and don't attack you unless you're close so you stand and shoot. It's not a run n gun, a stand n gun. Barely any weapon variety, and whip does nearly nothing. Still a fun game, but I think some aspects could've been improved.

Typical Dave Perry game. See also: Aladdin on Megadrive.
You may or may not care about
>nobuo uematsu will die before making again chiptune soundtracks
I don't care.
Nobuo didn't know how to make chiptunes properly. He didn't get good until the SNES days.

Yuzo is better at that.

Nigga, kys
Which retro games implemented good aiming systems without the need of a mouse/joystick/stick? bonus point for 3D games.
Eternal Darkness
Mother-fucking double fisted action
True Lies would let you sweep your aim with the Uzi and flamethrower, which did require you to first start shooting, but it would let you shoot at more angles than the pistol (and much greater range than the shotgun).
Enjoy the moments you have together, because nothing lasts forever.
Fuck that guy.

I really would.

Waaaaaaah Im Jowy Im gonna whine about destiny instead of using my power to end the war like a sane person
What does /vr/ think of Pole Position?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywqu_8RIDvU
I always laughed at how hitting anything makes your car massively explode. Those cars must have bombs strapped to the back of them.
One of my favorite racing games
I kind of liked it as a kid but didn't understand why I couldn't make every turn at full speed. Now that I'm older I like it much more. But I will say that I think OutRun is better.
If you haven't seen it, check out the plug'n'play namco museum with the twisty stick. Probably the best control of any official home version of pole position, barring some version out there supporting a good wheel.
What is the definitive version of this game? TurboGrafx-CD and FM Towns versions look better than the Amiga original.
C64.
Still looks good, amazing soundtrack and most importantly, it plays better.
The one you played as a kid is the only true answer when it comes to /vr/ "definitive versions"
>look better
Looking better has nothing to do with being a definitive version. Holy shit, kids, please get off this "graphics is everything" bullshit, even /vr/ is corrupted with it.
Amiga IS the definitive version, end of fucking story. It was made for the Amiga and plays the best on it.
Does anyone here play Jetpack? It's one of the classics I keep coming back to. It's a platformer with puzzle and labyrinth elements that takes inspiration from games like Loderunner, Jumpman, and Montezuma's Revenge.
The game is enjoyable unto itself, but what makes it really stand out is the powerful, built-in level editor. There are literally over 1000 levels available for this game.
If anyone is up for it, we could create levels and share them here. I've made a level pack of my own.
Download the game at the official website: www.adeptsoftware.com/jetpack/
A quick video that demonstrates the gameplay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Honzfhe4EQ
Download my level pack: https://u.teknik.io/rryCp2.zip
I played through all 100 levels when I downloaded it a couple years ago.
In my childhood it was the game that introduced me to level creation.
One of my favorite games as a kid, I only had the shareware though; we should have some sort of general /vr/ archive of levels for games that have level editors
Also did anyone ever try Squarez 2-player? Seems like a game that would be ripe for a remake with online play

>we should have some sort of general /vr/ archive of levels for games that have level editors
What other games do people here create levels for?
What games had spread guns? Other than Contra the only other games I can think of at the moment are Gradius and Alien Solider though I'm sure there are many more.
TwinBee
Raiden

In Einhander if you didn't have a Grenade pod, the next best thing is to get a Spreader and pump that shit point blank like an automatic shotgun.
Did you guys ever back this book? I'm waiting for my copy to ship over here and looking foward to it.
It's basically an encyclopedia on every n64 game ever produced. Talking about their reviews sales, and even some n64 ads from the 90s. It's coming to the states in afew weeks, but shipped in europe already.
uhh?? why wouldnt they make this for a console with more than 10-15 good games???
>>3548510
There's some nice hidden gems on the n64 besides the obvious mario and zelda.
>>3548513
Word. That's why I said 15 instead of 3.
Picked up a CRT monitor from work they were going to throw away.
What systems now look and play better?
A dreamcast?
It looks like you should probably worry about the ostrich in your room first
>>3548471
dreamcast and emulation
Which older games do you think would have benefited most from modern technology/visuals? For example, compare the original 1997 Final Fantasy VII to the upcoming remake.
Conversely, do you think there are any newer games that would have been better games if made for older platforms? I think it's interesting to think about how today's games would have turned out were they developed and released during previous generations.
I think racing games get pretty much objectively better with better graphics and physics even if the older ones retain their charm
>>3548470
the jumping flash series would be way better then it already is and beautiful if made today
ITT: Missions that are literally impossible
>>3548427
get guns on it? shoot them up a bit first, you pull the guys out of the cars, and shoot em up a bit first.
>>3548427
Uh I don't remember what that mission is exactly from just the name but I do recall completing every mission in the game. None of them are "impossible" level.
>>3548427
The only way this mission can be done is if the AI screws up and ignores your army.
At one point it has 5 flamethrowers and 5 grenaiders sent your way - this is literally impossible to defeat without crippling losses that would prevent you from progressing further.
Ok, I'm a big fan of Dragon Quest, the old Final Fantasy games, and the RPG genere in general.
Now that Breath of Fire I and II are con the n3DS VC (EUR) I planned to buy both of them (using that offer of "pay 12 € for both games").
But I discovered that existed the GBA ports, and (at least on I) they make some enhancements.
So... what version of each game is better? Are the enhancements really worth it?
They both suck ass. Breath of Fire III is the one to play.
>>3548352
The enhancements aren't really worth it. They're both alright as they are, poor translations and all.
If you actually enjoy the games you might want to retry them later on in different versions. But really, we're not talking about DQ1 --> DQ1+2 levels of improvement.
