Is there a more fun beat'em up game?

>neat graphic, details and shadowing
>simple and effective controls
>actually gets environment hazards right
>challenging but not utterly impossible difficulty level, with relatively short fights that never drag out
>pretty good sound effects *kling* *klong* and 9/10 music
>serviceable storyline in story mode, nifty little details revealed in the pre-fight dialogue

The only problem I can think of is the weird difficulty curve in tournament mode, which starts easy, gets pretty difficult and then becomes kindergarten simple once you progress and unlock various robots.
Also the AI isn't always awesome and it's possible to win flawlessly by spamming kicks with the Jaguar.

>by spamming kicks with the Jaguar.
Overhead throw is all you need.
The other robots don't have shit on the Jaguar in tournament mode. It's cheaper to upgrade and has useful hidden extras and simple destruct moves.

Great soundtrack. The thing that killed it was how easy it was to find a way to exploit most characters, so there was no challenge.

Would anyone here be interested in playing CS with /vr/?

I know there are Steam groups for /vr/ games but a lot of them seem dead, so I have no clue if this would be a lost cause if put together. Even if it just lasted a week I'd be happy.

Chatting and playing together for hours? Seriously, no.
I fail to see how any sane person would come here for more than the occasional post.

If you got enough people I probably would, I am more interested in playing different mods like rocket crowbar 2 or hostile intent or the specialists or something.

Your picture does not do this topic justice. Allow me to interject with an appropriate non-biased one.

>pic related

Now, as for recommendations; which console will you be playing on?
>>
>>2863739
Avoid 8 bit as an introduction. It's better to play those games later if you're curious to see how developers built the foundations of the genre. You should start with some of the best ones if you want a good first impression.

Since this is /vr/, I'm keeping it 16 to 32 bit.

SNES
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI
Secret of Mana

GENESIS
Shining Force II
Phantasy Star IV

SEGA CD
Shining Force CD
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue

TURBOGRAFX CD
Ys Book I and II

PLAYSTATION
Final Fantasy IX
Suikoden II
Xenogears

SATURN
Shining Force III
Panzer Dragoon Saga (you're going to have to pirate this unless you want to spend a fortune. It's absolutely worth a playthrough, however you get your hands on a copy.)

If you want something a bit less intense but still awesome games to ease you into JRPGS:

SNES
Super Mario RPG

N64
Paper Mario
>>
>>2863739
Chrono Trigger is ideal introduction. Relatively short, not too difficult, high production values, memorable characters. The story makes no sense but that's to be expected from a JRPG.

I got this game from a bundle, and I tried it with the expectation it would be shit, but actually it's not as bad as I thought.

It's actually better than Wolfenstein 3D in some ways.

First of all it has an automap which removes most of the frustration with playing Wolfenstein 3D. Second, it actually has has a rocket launcher type weapon which doesn't share ammo with all the other weapons, pic related.

What do you think /vr/?

Looks interesting, Is it true ID gave Wisdom Tree
the source code to Wolfenstein 3D as a fuck you to Nintendo?
>>
isn't this worth a bundle
>>
Actually the automap was added to the Steam port.

Still makes the game much more fun to play than Wolfenstein though, but I'm sure some sourceport adds that to Wilfenstein too.

Not a fan of the shoulder buttons though but all in all it's a solid controller for emulation.

>>
Been pretty happy.

Sound/headsets doesnt work on pc and probably never will.

Touchpad works if you get inputmapper.

You need a Broadcom or intel Bluetooth card for shit to work...

Two controllers have reasonable input lag. Like 4-8ms

Adding a single a2dp headset bumps it up by 5ms.

Having several seoarste keyboards mice have been fine.

Lets play some Ultima Online Forever together.
>what is ultima online?
It is an MMORPG sandbox game based in the Ultima universe

>what is ultima online forever
a freeshard for Ultima Online. It is completely free, similar to freeshards for other games like Phantasy Star Online

>how can I join?
1.) Create an account for their forums
http://www.uoforum.com/
(this is the account you will login to ingame)
2.) Run this
http://www.uoforever.com/download.php
(razor is a separate program from ultima online. it is required to play, it points to their servers)
3.) Select Install Ultima Online
(this will download the actual client)

The installation of the client will require nearly 2 gigabytes of HDD space.

After that is all done, you can start it up, log in, play. While creating your character, after you choose your occupations (samurai, mage) or create your own combination, there will be a map with a couple large cities. You should go to Britain (the default) as it has a good starter dungeon. That is where I will be going, and in three hours (2 PM CST) I would like to run that dungeon with whoever is willing. My ingame name is Ayrin.

Also, you might want to restart your client once after you create your account, for some reason you can't hear music until you do and you will find the ambiance of Bard Tunes and animal noises to be pretty annoying.

I've been meaning to ask on the Neo-Geo forums but I'll ask here first if anyones got some input.

My MVS cab is a 2 slot cabinet, that has a 4 slot board in it. Its obviously been replaced by the previous owner, and he got it from a place in vancouver (pacific vend stickers plastered everywhere).

Now this thing has some wonky as fuck behaviors.

>Slot 1 displays images incorrectly
Previous owner says the contacts were dirty. Its displaying I guess shifted bits, so there are obvious lines with incorrect graphics. I hosed it with contact cleaning but I haven't taken it out yet.

>Slot 2 doesn't have sound
>Slot 3 appears to be perfect
>Slot 4 has really low sound
>If multiple games are in, Slot 3 doesn't have sound

Among a few other issues.

Is it possible its not getting enough juice from the power supply? Theres absolutely no sound if I have multiple games in. Occasionally it will also skip games, but if I remove a game from the board it sometimes works.

Supposedly 4 slots are just wonky. I'll probably document everything wrong with it and make a post on the Neo-Geo forums later.
>>
Came across a rather niffy CIC mod for the NES that involves soldering 2 wires to the board.

If anyone wants any information on this, I'd be happy to help.

Could a faulty limit switch on a Sega CD(2) lead to damaged gears and the sled attempting to go further away from the center than it should, or could damaged gears be mimicking a faulty limit switch?

Bought an "as is" Model 2 and I'm trying to get it up and running correctly.
Reads discs, but seems to take a bit long to load at times (I have no "properly working" point of reference so I can't really say on that one) and tracking for audio at times.
These are often times accompanied with grinding noises coming from the sled; The reason I'm not sure it's a limit switch issue is because one of the gears is a bit chewed up and that the grinding noise happens both when the assembly is near the center(what a limit switch problem would cause) as well as it pushing all the way out to the very edge.

If it is a limit switch issue (and as such need new gears or something along those lines) would someone be able to point me in the direction of decent instructions on how to go about either repairing said switch/bringing it back into proper alignment, or if it would be possible to replace the switch?

I have some video of the drive in action, but I still need to cut out the useless junk and/or possibly retake it as it the focus is debatable at times.

X-COM thread...go!

TFTD could look spectacular with a modern game engine.
>>
It's hard, very, very hard. Why? The devs were responding to feedback from UFO Defense players who complained that the game was too easy because it had the difficulty bug that nobody knew about. Certain additions to TFTD such as melee weapons were due to player suggestions as well. "Some of the aliens have melee attacks, so the player should also be able to use them."

UFO Defense never gets that hard even on Superhuman and it's almost a breeze once you know what everything does and when it does it. Knowing TFTD intimately will just help you survive a bit better.

>flying Chryssalids
>maps with bazillions of tiny rooms in them
>flying suits don't work on land
>more enemies can use psionics
>tech tree is a lot more complicated
>TFTD equivalent of laser rifles has ammo clips so you can't fire it ad infinitum
>all ranged weapons have fewer rounds in their clips than UFO
>two part base missions
>unscheduled cruise ship and trawler attacks that can happen at random with no prior warning
>mixed alien crews
>all alien bases have Lobstermen and Tentaculats manning them
>Lobstermen are damn near impossible to kill
>only Lobsterman commanders let you beat the game unlike UFO where any commander can be captured

I'll make this quick, my 8 year old son is a genius at math, He's at an 11th grade level, so I took him out of his school and i'm now homeschooling him, Since He knows math, We now do Video Game class and thats pretty much it, He has to research an old game then beat it..

This months game is Donkey Kong Country, He has to research the whole story, all the characters, all the names of everything, then he has to beat the game..

Got an emulator going now and hes loving it..

What should next months game be? It has to be from 1990-1997 and on the NES/SNES

I was thinking Mortal Kombat, any ideas?

Vaccinated can be run with any gameplay mod, not just Trailblazer.
Valiant by itself is still the truest experience, though.

So, should I buy an Atari 2600 or an SNES?
Explanations are highly appreciated.
I, personally think I should buy an Atari atm.
If I decide to buy an Atari 2600 I'd buy the edition as in the picture.

Atari 2600 for arcades 'sit down for 5 mins and play a game' although I played HERO on the 2600 for almost 8 hours the first time I played it

Snes for jrpgs, arcade ports, and a few weird shmups but also megaman X, PILOTWINGS and more.

Snes is more expensive than the Atari overall, upto you is the depth of what you'd like to play, I own both.
