Fuck fighting games, why is the community hell bent into bodying newbs into submission?
I just wanna play a mindless button masher with pretty graphics alone
git gud, faggot.
What communities? This is /vr/ bro. Back in /vr/ times, the "communities" were whatever guys you'd meet at the arcades, or your own group of friends. There was no Facebook, no Twitter, no EVO, no internet drama.
Best way to enjoy retro fighting vidya is get a friend (or more), grab a few beers, sit on the couch, and have fun.
Playing through Fightcade online is not really /vr/-related.
For the most part, the online experience is not /vr/-related period, and big tourneys like EVO aren't either.

You probably don't want to hear this, but if you want something more friendly to new players, play a new fighter. The player base will be a lot larger and have more players of your skill level to play against.
Pretty much anyone still playing retro fighters has been playing them for years so unless you're really skilled there's not much point. It's just as boring to fight someone much lower than your skill as it is someone much higher.
Also if you want a mindless button masher, Beat em Ups might be the better genre. Button mashing doesn't actually work in any fighter unless your opponent is equally bad.
Started a new game of Vagrant Story. Just got to the first workshop. Any ideas on what to do with my current weapons? Should i dump some or combine? Maybe need to find more?
>>2858780
just repair them
try to get a quad shield though, you should be able to make one by now
you'll get to another workshop soon enough where you'll be able to combine bronze and iron equipment into hagane
>>2858790
Haha just got one then. Good timing
>>2858780
Without looking at guides (I never did), you can try to combine 2 pieces of equipment of the same class/part and close stats to each other, and generally, the outcome will be better than both pieces used.
Combining strong pieces with weak pieces yields a shitty/average outcome that's worse than the stronger you're combining. And thus a waste.
That Soul Kiss you got there, has an S in the icon that stands for silver. Silver does awesome damage against undead. It will be useful for most of the game, only upgrade it if the outcome is better, and also silver material.
Also, keep a crossbow in stock for destroying far away boxes.
Turok: Dinosaur Hunter is coming to Steam in less than 48 hours. But Turok 3 is best Turok, and my body is ready for a remaster to fix the many, many bugs and missing features.
Turok 3 > Turok: Dinosaur Hunter > Turok 2 > Turok 2008 > Watching Paint Dry > Turok: Evolution.A lot of folks will argue that Turok 2 is best Turok. They might have a point, but how many people actually FINISHED Turok 2? A vast majority of players give up somewhere along the line. The amount of backtracking and keyhunting is obscene.
They're only doing 1 and 2.
they are not remastering 3 dude, don't get your hopes up
>>2857969
>They're only doing 1 and 2.
They've stated that other sequels are on the table if 1 and 2 are successful.
Always thought Jasmine from Pokemon Crystal looked like a giant pig head

I thought that the lower face half of Link, when he's riding towards the camera, was a big, fat, wobbling nose.
Also, thought Impa was a guy. The sprite doesn't really look female.
>>2856093
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
Realistically, what chance would the M2 have had against the Playstation and the N64?
It wouldn't have been against the PS1 or N64, it would have gone against the PS2 and other non retro consoles.
>>2856025
Panasonic was aiming for a 97-98 release date before they canned it, so it would have come out before the Dreamcast, even if it was a 6th gen machine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QeLGfeDHIYo
In terms of graphics, it was definitely above the N64, but weaker than the Dreamcast.
>>2856029
that fighting game looks pretty good.
console itself aesthetically reminds me of something SNK would do
wtf is it true emulators all have a delay when you press buttons? r u shitting me
>>2855438
No. Emulators don't have a delay, your USB controller does regardless of what program you use it with.
Better bust out the Gravis Gamepad, bruv.
>>2855438
>>2855468
cool.
Why do you think older games are better? What could newer games do or not do to make you like them again?
because I'm old and shitty
so I prefer old shitty games like myself
But I like newer games. Bayonetta 1 and 2 are some of my favorite games ever.
Not cater to casuals. So nothing really.
Can't even name a non Nintendo AAA game that didn't have DLC within the first week released in like the past 10 years.
What is the Select button?
It's like the Scroll Lock on a keyboard: a vestigial element that long overstayed it's need or relevance.
Are you sure this is what you want to discuss on a Saturday morning? The Select button?
>>2849658
Well I can't talk about Akuma appearing in Tekken 7 here...
Do you really want to give up your buttons? If you let them take away a button it's only a matter of time before they take them all and everyone is playing on touch screens.
HUD thread
Post some HUDs
No shit posting. If you must shit post, post a hud while you're doing it.

You motherfucker

If you want some ideas for your shitty indie game then do the research your damn self.
I've always really liked JRPGs over most genres of games but felt like I missed a lot I should really play, is there a /vr/ "essentials" for best JRPGs that I should play?
Final Fantasy 4, 6 - 9
Legend of Dragoon
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Shadow Hearts 2
I assume you've played Skies of Arcadia. If you liked that (and you should!) you should check out Panzer Dragoon Saga. Even though it's by a different team it feels like a proto-Skies in a lot of ways (namely the flying around and the aerial combat).
>>2860362
>Final Fantasy 4, 6 - 9
Where's FF5?
>2011
>12 year old me at church yard sale
>sees an old video game system
>n64 with Banjo Kazooie, Tooie, Mario 64, golden eye, and hand full of sports games
>5 controllers
>$10
>buys it, no idea of the real value and potential experiences which I'm in for
>brothers see it
>"I'll give you $20 for it."
>$20 heck yeah that's a $10 profit.
Should I kill myself, my brothers, or both.
>>2859639
You had to learn somehow. Sold it to family anyway, should be fine - right?
>>2859652
He didn't keep it. He quickly sold it to a video game store to buy weed.
Why do peaple think the N64 is worth money?
Those games and console are maybe $40- $60 today. And you sold it to family.
Just fuck off.
Talk about how the battle system might work, what do you guys think about it?
>>2859520
Materia System a shit.
ATB a great.
What do you mean "might"?
As if the mechanics of the battle system
Good 16 bit co-op games? Simultaneous and not competitive.
I've already thought of Goof Troop SNES, World of Illusion Gen, Fire Power 2000, Final Fight 2, Contra.
streets of rage nigguh
Donkey Kong Country(s)
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Turtles In Time (and many other beat em ups)
Zombies ate my Neighbours
Gain Ground
Blues Brothers
Mighty Max
snes Popeye
Magical Quest 3 (whatever the jap title is)
Dashin' Desperadoes
Guys what are some good turn based combat WRPGS?
In style of Paper Mario, Earthbound, Dragon Quest, etc, but not actually JRPG.
What are some great, perhaps different and experimental, turn based combat systems?
I'm very interested in such combat, but I find most JRPGs digusting because of their art and/or story.
Thanks
Baldur's Gate
Wizardry is obviously the prime series for the classic row based combat. In the earlier games there isn't much story or art to worry about either.
Most Infinity Engine games. Planescape is the exception, but you can play the whole thing without fighting anyway.
>RPG style
>Metroidlike or open world
>3D environment & controls similar to Lament of Innocence
>Beautiful graphics, level & enemy designs like Lords of Shadow 1/2
>Refined combat system like Devil May Cry 3
>Familiars like in Curse of Darkness
>Can wield & craft weapons/equipment like in Curse of Darkness
>Equipment changes appearance
>Protagonist is a Belmont
>Set in the original series' canon in a different era, i.e. 1800-1900's Europe
Thoughts?
so you want something nothing like any of the /vr/ games
get out >>>/vr/
>>2858618
Who would've thought another Castlevania fan would be such a little bitch?
My dream castlevania game would just have the player as Sonia Belmont whipping Igarashi over and over and over and over until he apologizes.
