I don't really get the appreciation for the SNES. Is it because I don't like JRPGs and think most of the Nintendo 1st party stuff is outdone by their prequels/sequels? ie.
LttP < Zelda 1 and 2
Super Metroid < Metroid Prime
Earthbound < Mother 3
DKC - Just not good at all IMO
F-Zero X/GX > F-Zero
There's some random little games I like on it, like Mario's Super Picross, and there's some neat-looking stuff like Pilotwings that I haven't tried, but overall I can't help but feel that it's a sorely overrated console.

I was wondering if anyone got all the muffled voices throughout Blood? Like the first moment you enter the train station in Wrong Side of the Tracks for instance where there is a booming intercom voice saying "time for 666 greenspire, something something wookie, it times nine"
https://youtu.be/7RlbLhwOtLQ?t=3m56s
Also it's kind of mindblowing that they were able to get Louis Freese(Cypress Hill) to say that.
Blood thread I guess.
It says 666 to Greentown, the rest of it I have no idea. It's a reference to Something Wicked This Way Comes.
>>2862772
Oh I should also note that the name of the train you board for the next level (the Phantom Express) is the Phantom 666, hence "666 to Greentown", that's the destination of the train.
>>2862759
Rather than something wookie, could that bit be Old Milwaukee?
Having owned and loved a colecovision [favorite games were Nova Blast and Pepper 2] I am super stoked about Chameleon, not only for the collections and new games, but weirdly enough-- it's going to have cartridges.

Does it actually look like an Atari Jaguar with a Wii U Pro Controller? wtf is that?

FUKIN ESP REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEI love this game so much but it's kicking my ass, my mutants aren't learning any decent spells, one has 58 mana and has only known ESP since the start of the game.
>>2860643
I always take 4 mutants. 2 men and 2 women and never had problem with magic. But you must be ready to use swords if necessary.
>>2860643
Put them in the front of your party, and rotate them as one lags behind. Also, play on a GBA SP, since the RNG is not the same across all Gameboys.
The RNG in this game is pretty awkward. Mutants will always get stuck with shit abilities regardless of how far you are into the game. You'll have to rely on weapons and spell books instead. Since mutants are afforded few equipment slots, I would recommend using just one piece of (chest) armor, then reserve the remaining slots for any weapons and spell books you want to use.
Some other general tips for your playthrough:
- Instant-death skills (DEATH and STONE books) are very effective, even against bosses. By "effective" I mean exploitable. Humans normally don't gain any Mana points, so they tend to suck with magic. They can nonetheless use status spells like STONE and DEATH just as effectively as mutants can.
- The (chain)Saw that you can buy from World 4 can kill the strongest enemies and bosses in the game, including the final boss.
- Characters recruited from later worlds have higher stats than the characters recruited from the starting town. If your party is relatively weak by the time you reach a certain world, you may as well kill some characters off and recruit newer, more powerful ones. May save you some time with grinding, especially if you're using humans.
- Monsters are very easy to manage due to gaining all their ability uses back with inn stays, and they're also very exploitable if you stumble across the right sequence of meat drops. There's nothing stopping you from evolving your monsters to the highest tiers before you even leave the first world.
- The Dragon armor you can purchase from World 3 provides multiple elemental resistances. It's useful for the rest of the game. Similarly,
- If you choose a female mutant as your main character, she starts equipped with a Saber, which can be sold for a ridiculous amount of gold. You can then use the gold to buy yourself a Rapier and a full set of armor.

I'm not the original OP. Was missing the thread so took over the whole OP text just with the next Nr and edition. ;)
Oh hey it's back. Was just trying to post to this a few days ago and mention that I got started on the EVO PC-98 translation.
Post hilariously non politically correct things in old videogames.
>>2854708
Explain.
-The graphics are bad, I can't enjoy it.
-The reboot is better, the old version is a bad game because audiences didn't know any better.
-It was "Good for its time."
-This game is too hard. I'm not bad at this, but I can't beat it in 5 hours. That means it has artificial difficulty which makes it bad.
-This is a clunky UI, I can't get passed this
Are we the ones out of touch, or is it the children?
>>2852963
This is a /b/ tier shitpost.
ebin image macro
"it's dated"
"it hasn't aged well"
anyway it's not just children saying this shit, also stupid adults who aren't really very knowledgeable of the medium they're talking about.
Let's get this out of the way, /vr/. Best xmas-themed/related game?
Christmas NiGHTS
Diddy Kong Racing and Kirby's Epic Yarn have some of the best Christmas levels.
It's that time again!
Ok. Help me out. This has been bothering me for ages.
It was a game that came in an Spanish CD full of demos sometime in 1996-ish, but this was the only complete one. It was a game like Pang/Buster Bros. that gave you the option to play as a male anime character or a female one.
The thing is that, if you managed to finish the first level, this porn image of the female protagonist appeared until you pressed a button (nothing hardcore. I think it was her with her legs spread open, but smiling, as if she just came out of the shower and was drying herself). The second level was hard as fuck -or as hard as fuck for 10 year old me- and I never knew if there were any other images.
That's all I can remember. It was in English -even if the CD was Spanish- and it, obviously, ran on a PC with MS-DOS/Windows.
Please, I need to know at least the name of this game.
Ok, so, I've got a couple games from my childhood that I can't seem to identify. Both of which I suspect are garbage, but I'll die easier knowing what they were called.
The first game was for the SNES. The protagonists were a young boy and girl. I think they also had the ability to turn into a robot kid? Or maybe they just summoned him? You someone were able to go from playing as the kids to a robot kid. I think the perspective of the game was a top-down LoZ: A Link to the Past point of view.
The second game was an adventure game for the N64. I don't think there was any combat, just puzzles and exploration through some sorta castle/mansion. I remember fiddling with different colors of potions for your inventory.
((I've posted this several times))
Sometimes I wonder if I just dreamt about this. I'll give the cliffnotes of what I remember.
-Played it around 2000-2001
-Possibly had "Shadow" in the title?
-Very ugly graphics, even for the time
-Multiplayer to some degree, I remember it having some form of chat room
-Divided into levels, in the first level you explored a crypt and there was a big dragon at the end
-Second level was a snowy forest with giants and unicorns, I don't think I ever beat it
In a previous thread, somebody suggested "Crypt" by Jagex. I don't think this was it, however I can't find enough information on that game to prove otherwise.
Hey /vr/, I just played through this and I absolutely loved it. I never played anything like it
Training characters to eventually turn them into a crafting currency, pretty much everything being optional, challenging platforming and puzzles in the hard mode dungeons, COOL AS FUCK BATTLE SYSTEM
The battle system really is deceptively simple, but actually practicing and timing your juggles out and maximizing damage is such a huge benefit. I really like how skillfully timing your moves gives more exp than just button mashing.
Anyone else play this? Whadja think about it?
I don't know shit about these games beyond that Yoh & Kou Yoshinari did art for them but your description got me interested. I'm generally interested in JRPGs with fun gameplay that aren't entirely driven by things that other genres do better.
Every time someone says "this game has bad gameplay but look past that and enjoy the story" I fucking tune out and yet every time someone praises the gameplay in a JRPG I get interested.
>>2835125
Ha, I'd actually say it's pretty opposite of that. Almost all of the story and cutscenes come in what are essentially short stories of how characters end up dying.
It almost feels like a semi open world dungeon crawler or something. Very few of the areas you go to are really related to the story
Combat is kinda like xenogears, but each button represents a party member and everyone can attack at once. The skillful part of it comes from timing your attacks just right so you can juggle the enemy which causes them to drop gems that give percentage exp increase at the end of the encounter.
The game as a whole just feels so unique
>>2835143
Yeah I'm gonna add this to my list of JRPGs to play, thanks.
Games that fucking suck but you still play em'
This turd here.
>>2870956
Goalie's face is like "imma catch this fucking bitch"
Mind you, I think it only sucked for magazine reviewers and people whodon't know how to fucking play Mortal Kombat to begin withbut goddamit, I liked this game so much I was able to beat it at least once a day.
What are the best multiplayer shooters on N64? Can be multiple right answers, framerate and controls matter, as do game modes, player counts, variety of game modes, etc.
I figure goldeneye and perfect dark are on the list. I also thought quake 2 was okay even if quake 2 itself isn't much IMO.
Jet Force Gemini
Yeah JFG is good. Turok 2 had a release that was strictly multipler, cant recall the name right now and too lazy to look it up. Conkers Bad Fur Day was fun. DK64 had something as well. BattleTanx series. And how can anyone forget the Vigilante 8 series, though that is with cars if you dont mind that
>>2870310
Turok Rage Wars. I loved it as a kid, but word on the street is that it's a pointless mess.
This is a bit of a stab in the dark, but does anybody know worthwhile /vr/ roleplaying games that put their emphasis on the roleplaying, and not on the fighting or their own narrative? Games that try to give you NPCs that interact with your character based on, well, your character. Games that not only give you skills, but maybe even traits, that might backfire on you. Games where every action you do, down to what stuff you buy in a shop, what selfless deeds you do, or how long you hesitate to do something heroic, is judged, and influences the game. Games where you genuinely enjoy playing a non-perfect character, instead of minmaxing to "beat" it.
Sounds like Fallout 1 & 2 would be right up your alley.

Darklands
What's a reasonable price for a working American SNES? eBay (I presume this is where you're supposed to buy retro games) has a wide range of prices.
I want an SNES to play Chrono Trigger, Zombies Ate My Neighbors, FF6, and Super Metroid.
whatever they're going for... if you're using ebay.
Make sure you have something worthwhile to plug a console into otherwise just use an emulator
$20 at a yard sale. eBay is highway robbery. Good luck tracking down those games, too. Reseller scum tend to stalk out second-hand outlets and buy them up before any serious players can, then they just sit in some empty storage unit because no one in their right mind is going to pay that kind of money.
