What are some of the most memorable vidya moments to you, /vr/? And I don't mean personal moments like when you and a friend double KO'd each other three times in a row in Street Fighter II. I mean plot point kind of moments.

End of PDS when (major spoiler coming up) you find out that you(the player) are the "divine visitor" who was the external outside force guiding Edge thru out his journey. Broke the 4th wall in a very "whoa!" Kind of way.

But that was pretty fucking dope, though.

For those who own an Everdrive 64, would you say that you are happy with your purchase?

>>
>>2872216

Yeah, works great and I don't have to support the retro jews to play games.
>>
>>2872216
Yes. Mainly because N64 emulation is still shitty enough for it to feel like a worthwhile purchase. I got a V2 because the few extra games supported by the V3 aren't worth the extra cost to me personally.
>>
>>2872276
Do you know why there are compatibility differences between versions? The N64 didn't have any coprocessor chips. Memory too small? Seems unlikeklyu.

I'm thinking about picking up a Saturn but I was a PS1 kid. I only had 1 neighbor with a Saturn and I remember it being pretty impressive.

Anyways, I know next to nothing about the console itself. I plan on playing on an HD TV, if I don't mind how my PS1 games look on my TV, will I find Saturn games to look terrible? Especially worried about the 2D games looking bad because the Saturn seems to have a lot of good 2D games.

Second, I plan on getting some Japanese imports because there was only a handful of games that came Stateside. Is the Saturn region-free?

Third, what's the difference between model 1 and model 2?

Thanks, guys.

>Is the Saturn region-free

No, you'll need a 4-in1 Action Replay. It fits into the cartridge slot in the back. It'll bypass region lock, give you cheats, act as a RAM expansion for games like X-Men vs Street Fighter and give you a lot more room for save data

>what's the difference between model 1 and model 2?

Pretty much just cosmetic.

Enjoy the Saturn bro. It's got a great (albeit expensive) library!

If you don't mind the way PS1 looks on your TV then Saturn won't bother you either. I couldn't stand it without an upscaler personally, but you're not me.

Saturn isn't region free but apparently quite easy to mod to play imports. I'm sure someone will post links soon. That's the better way to go anyways since the consoles are fairly cheap, but you'll be paying an arm and a leg for any game that's not shit.

Gongrats, you're in for a treat. Saturn has a ton of awesome games. What genres do you enjoy? We can point you towards some stuff.
>>
>>2871797
Thanks, I'll be sure to get the Action Replay. Any good site for cheats as well?

I've been watching a lot of Youtube videos, most of the games look pretty fun. I'm mostly a fan of platformers but I also like a good arcade style game (like arcade racers, fighters, and shooters).

I'm not too excited about the prices, but I guess that's what makes collecting so exciting.

I was in Goodwill today and I saw an NES Advantage controller for sale for $15.

I didn't get it. I was kind of scared to buy it, Goodwill doesn't do refunds on electronics and I had no way of knowing whether the joystick was adequately responsive. The controller was so huge, I couldn't imagine playing a game with it.

What does /vr/ think about the NES Advantage? Yea or nay?

I doubt they have cameras at Goodwill, at least ones that aren't on the registers.

Can we have a thread about games that are in first person, but aren't necessarily shooters? Pic related is pretty awesome and one of my favorite DC games. Shame that not many people played it as it has some unique gameplay features and branching paths that lead to 7 different endings.

Only thing I know about this game is the amazing as always art by Kazuma Kaneko. I really think some of his ballsiest and crazier designs are in this one. The game seemed okay, the first person sword gimmick was kinda neat.

Only other game like this, as in first person with a sword, that I know is probably some samura/ninja-y arcade game.

I'd also put Jumping Flash forward because while there is some shooting, just the movement and environments set it apart from your general "FPS"es as most know them.

Hey /vr/, I started playing Star Control II. I read that I have limited time to finish the game, but is it enough to explore every galaxy?

Also any tips? For example, should I try to destroy as many ships as possible for RUs or just stay with mining minerals?

>is it enough to explore every galaxy?
There's only one galaxy. And no, you don't have enough time to explore every star system. The time limit feels a lot like the time limit in Fallout 1. It's strict enough that you can't ignore it but not so strict that it's excessively limiting. If you're concerned, there's something you can do to make it much less pressing (spoilers from mild to explicit):
Found the Melnorme yet? Check out gas giant stars
Trade for current events information until you discover something interesting about hyperspace
There's a portal to quasispace at 043.8 : 637.3, open monthly 17th - 20th on the month
Find the Arilou in quasispace, talk to them to get the location of the warp pod
Retrieve the warp pod for them, get the portal spawner. Experiment with the portal destinations. All your travel times are now dramatically reduced

>Any tips

I don't want to spoil the game for you so I'll give you my patented Best Star Control 2 Newbie Tip:

If you get your ass kicked in ship combat learn to fight in a cowardly fashion with a Spathi Eluder. It is very safe if tedious to destroy even Ur-Quan ships by fleeing, dodging everything and launching B.U.T.T.s.

You can obviously find other ships and learn to fight with all of them but early on you can feel pretty weak with the starting selection.
>>
If you want more time to explore every system/play at your own pace without the clock ticking down on you (and if it's your first playthrough, you WILL run afoul of the death march) then download the time dialation mod, or the delay mod. The dialation mod makes the game go much slower overall so other timed events also take longer to manifest, while the delay mod just puts off the final deadline without affecting any of the other events/general timeflow.

Like all people I like me some light gun games Time Crisis, Virtua Cop, House of the dead, etc., but as CRT isn't an option for me i'm limited to the PS3 and Wii releases (which is a good selection but limited).
So i'm looking for emulating on PC and getting a Light gun to use and i'm looking for some advise.
I've seen some products online and theres a way to get a Wii remote running so i was going to start there but doess that work just as well as the dedicated products?

The Wii isn't a lightgun, so its going to work exactly like it always does. If you've been fine with it then just do it.
>>
>>2866641
Some arcade emulators allow mouse input in lieu of light guns. If you can't get a gun working, try Mame++ o something
>>
Time Crisis 4 first run had a HDTV Light Gun.

Plugged into the USB and had Sensors next to the screen

Couldn't tell you how many times I booted this game up thinking I'd get somewhere, but never could. It was fun, but I could never progress.

The missions are all clearly outlined at the terminal. It tells you where to go and what to do when you get there.

It would have been a much more playable game if you could access the map from anywhere though instead of having to go back to the terminal every time

No in-game maps
No in-game tips
No tips or maps in local gaming magazines (I'm an eurofag and LotW was never released here)
No instruction manual
No internets to look for FAQs when I got this game
No fucking clue on where you are supposed to go or what you are supposed to do in the first place
Random exploration only
FINAL DESTINATION

Has anyone beaten this motherfucker legitimately without any kind of help I sure didn't...
Finally I dare anyone thinking the first Zelda game is cryptic or impossible to beat without guides to try this game out.

Top kek mate. England an ice here, and I am glad I imported an ntsc monitor years ago. You never realize how shitty our 50hz and bordered resolutions suck until you play games how the japs meant them to be played.
>>
>>2865676
lol you fucking moron you didn't need an NTSC monitor, most here can do 60hz if you're using RGB scart
>>
>>2865638
If you have an ntsc SNES, you can play PAL games with a very small and easy mod to your SNES (requires just a pair of pliers, seriously)
