I have been in possession of this gold version game cartridge for about 15 years now. I traded some Pokemon cards for it. The reason why this is an interesting cart is because the sticker is upside down.
>pic related
I come to you guys at /vr/ to ask if this rare item is worth anything. Ebay sells normal gold version carts for about 20 dollars. I tried to research this to see if there was anyone else that had a similar game cartridge with an upside down label. I didn't find anything. The game has been tested and works and contains no save data. AMA
Thanks in advance

probably better off asking on some pokemon-specific forums . or maybe nintendo age

not worth jack shit sorry lad. Try smashing it with a hammer to see if there are any gold nuggets inside.

>The game has been tested and works and contains no save data.

Hahaha
No shit, the battery ran dry about 6 years ago, man. Same as every other.

Not sure if you're serious but it is most likely somebody did that themselves. How on earth is a cartridge going to be processed upside down, then pass quality control?
At any rate, in terms of worth, probably about the same as a regular Gold cart, give or take a couple of dollars.

Here's an interesting idea. Try selling the fucking thing.

With the remake on the way, I decided to play through the original PS1 version of Final Fantasy VII, by way of the PS3 port (previous attempts at Final Fantasy I, VII, X, and Tactics Advance were stymied by being generally shit at JRPGs, but this time I seem to be getting the hang of it, even if I'm still on Disc 1). As I was too preoccupied being a five-year-old child with alternating Mario and Sonic fixations when it came out, I haven't been able to put on the nostalgia goggles. And from what I've seen so far, it's good for what it is, but I don't really see what made this game as popular as it was. So, I'm asking you, /vr/: What made Final Fantasy VII so wildly popular that it pretty much single-handedly changed the series?

>>
Steampunk and the anime craze.
>>
Mostly it was hype from game magazines combined with TV ads. RPGs were very popular at the time and Square was seen as one of the kings of gaming. FFVI had been massive and very well loved.

Square was also releasing tons of screenshots and artwork which really brought the hype to a fever pitch.

I would say that it really didn't change the series all that much though. It added CG cutscenes, but that's minor in the grand scheme of things. It's bigger influence was showing that JRPGs were popular enough that more obscure titles started coming over.

>>2870342
Steampunk was barely a thing back then.
>>
It took the already tight cinematic direction that FF had honed over the SFC games and pushed it further into a full multimedia experience.

Could somebody please explain to me entangle? It seems like a useless spell. It's only ever fucked me over. Maybe once or twice i got lucky with it
>>
>>2827541
Don't use it near your party members. It's used as a "soft" wall, either you go through and chance getting caught, or you go around. Your party, in the meantime, should be using ranged attacks and/or flanking around the affected area to surround those caught in the middle.

It's a tactical spell, much like grease (though the associated tactics with grease are quite different, of course.)

I've never played a Breath of Fire game, should I play the snes or the gba version?

GBA version is overall easier (you get 10x as much exp and gold), but the music sounds worse (the same thing happened with a few SNES-GBA ports). I'd say stick to the GBA versions, because you don't want to deal with the grindness of the original games.

I'll warn you beforehand: both games have a dungeon that is quite a long trek, and you may die due to bullshit insta-death spells or having only 1 character. Just persevere.

BOF1 is when Gobi is alone.
BOF2 is the dungeon that connects to the Dragon Village. You can get hit by Death from enemies 50 levels below you.
>>
Retranslated SNES version. The original translation is legendarily bad and the GBA version didn't change a thing about it.
>>
My first BoF was III.... I wouldn't recommend that.
Just skip the bullshit and go straight to 4, the best of the series by far.

Because it you weren't lucky enough for Link to wake up there, the Nightmares would have taken over and turned it into nightmare world. Which is presumably a fate worse than death, otherwise Link is the bad guy.

What's the most immersive /vr/ game to you now that you're an adult?

Sorry OP, that immersion was false due to having the game boy close to your face, or because the cord on your Genesis controller was too short.

I've more or less put together of a library of all the PS1 games I've ever wanted, so now I'm looking into the more obscure titles / hidden gems for the platform. Can /vr/ pitch any recommendations? I'm into games from most every genre, so there aren't any restrictions.

To save some time, let me note that I already have anything that would be considered essential, like the Final Fantasy Titles, Spyro, Tomb Raider, etc. Again, just looking for OBSCURE games that people normally overlook.

Japanese imports are welcome since my console is modded. I actually have a few already.

I'm doing exactly the same thing with PS3.
Been playing since NES and played all the worthwhile games on pretty much every console and PS3 is my favorite of them all.
I don't even know why exactly I just like it a lot.
I would recommend the From Software games on PS1.
King's Field and Armored Core series.

I'm completely the opposite. I prefer Future by a vast margin. The gameplay is a lot faster paced and the level design is amazing. I love the Dinosaur Park level with all the roller coasters to grind on. I also liked that it had a bunch of multiplayer modes.

I beat this back when I was a youngster and recently received it as a gift. Is it just because Im running this on a newer system or have the physics in this always been kind of buggy? I go to jump off certain slopes and stick to edges, get stuck on corners, particle geometry becomes unpassable etc. I really dont remember it being such a hassle to traverse obstacles or avoid structures and its getting me killed quite alot!
33 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>2886340
Most likely the latter, but also possibly that they fucked shit up since. Almost definitely nothing to do with your new system. HL has always been buggy and it's gotten better and worse in various ways over the years. Even enemies are invincible during some animations. It's not a flawless game and if you think it was super duper when you were a kid, it's because you were a kid being too dump and amazed by novelty to objectively examine it.
>>

Make sure you didn't turn on "-dev" mode and play beyonf 100 fps. Goldsource engine needs to be capped to 100 fps for physics to work properly. Most noticeable when you're playing a surf map in CS 1.6.
