Would be nice if Takumi ports the DC version to Steam, with the counterstop fix and extras included.
Any retro shmups worth getting in the steam sale?

Yet again, new Bokuno patches are available!
Since Bokuno RS3 seems to have added a ton of new Magic Spells, can someone give me a run-down on what elements are good at doing stuff (like how Earth had the best attack magic in Vanilla)
>>2820629
I will start with the fact that every magic now is very good when it comes to offensive. You could probably run all magic team. I will list some most useful spells (at least for me).
>Wind
Restoration is a recommended healling spell, Missile Guard is useful in certain situations, Simulacram maybe? Dragon Descend if you have someone like with LP. Galaxy is very good for dealing damage (mostly by being a no-type attack). Overgrowth maybe for Subier fight.
>Fire
Best single target offensive magic. Crimson Flare has the highest base damage. Soul of Fire is a must have, it gives HP regen to everyone AND increases stats! There's also LP attack which might be useful again certain enemies.
>Earth
Earth Heal is a good heal, Shield Breaker against stuff with annoying shield like Apollo, Mindscape and Sharpness are okay buffs. Antimagic is very useful if you don't have enough equipement, never really used Wall of Light.
What does /vr/ think of the Dragon Quest games?
I like them.
>>2812910
whats the joke
>>2812727
I love them deeply, having played I though IV. They really are the absolute classic JRPGs. The world and NPCs are great too.
We discuss non-Nintendo Power /vr/-era gaming magazines...
AKA our internet before the internet became a thing...
>>2913991
I wish there were more PDFs floating around of those old magazines like EGM and GameFan.
>>2914000
http://community.retromags.com/index.php?act=uportal
>>2914000
I know of retromags, I just wish they had more. I have every Nintendo Power beginning with 1 and going all the way into the year 2000, but I'm still missing the vast majority from other mags.
>tfw no sourceport
Seems like a great game but doesn't run so well for me in DosBox
When is Atari going to die?
>>2912528
Same
Bloody great game, it's such a shame
>>2912558
And we get remakes and even new games for Shadow Warrior, which nobody ever asked for (they might be good, point is nobody could've known that)
The Famicon and NES library was full of shit
Like, seriously, it was full of really shitty games and those of the caliber of Super Mario Bros or Journey to Silius were fucking rare. Most of the games that were on the sytem were shitty repetitive games like Circus Charlie, Pooyan, Nuts & Milk or pic related
That isn't to say these games weren't entertaining or couldn't be enjoyed, but most of them were, legitimately, bad.
Do you remember playing any game like these?
those games were all there was. unlike you.
>>2909395
hilariously enough, here in my country those kind of games were never localized
We only had a small library of the most popular ones and each of them were incredibly expensive for the time
>shitting on Circus Charlie
>shitting on Mappy
Death isn't enough punishment for your faggotry.
How do yurofags deal with having to play the worst versions of every retro game? Imports? Mods? Kinda depressing really
They play Amiga games.
Either play native games or use an emulator.
>>2909089
All consoles since Genesis are in RGB in native. And Pal games, not all are sloxwer.
Can we have a thread about gaming and getting old?
Ever tried a /vr/ game as an adult and thought it was meh but you would have loved it if you were younger and less cynical? Ever went through a phase where you genuinely can't enjoy vidya? How about actually finding time to play?
I started to dislike vidya in high school right after PS1 came out, it was the beginning of the end of normies taking over gaming and I guess it depressed me some. I come back to gaming every few years buy a bunch of crap and genuinely enjoy some games but I'll never have the passion I did as a kid I'm guessing
>>2907689
>normies
>>2907678
Honestly, no. I've been playing a bunch of /vr/ recently - Secret of Mana, Super Metroid, and Magical Chase during the last few days - and I find them to be much more engaging than some of the recent modern games I've tried playing like Witcher 3. I'm still a sucker for color and whimsy.
>Ever went through a phase where you genuinely can't enjoy vidya?
No. Late high school was when I gamed the least, but even then I always had at least one thing I could say I was actively playing.
>How about actually finding time to play?
I play for about 30-45 minutes every day after work, more on weekends. I'd have no problem dedicating all of my free time to vidya, but I'm working on an indie game right now, so I'm trying to spend most of my time on that.
ITT: Classics you don't see the appeal to
I don't understand the love for Strider. They're mediocre.
>>2906287
>ITT: Classics you don't see the appeal to
I see OP has been reading from his favorite book on thread making again.
>>2906303
It's a legitimate question anon. Even for its time, the controls are clunky, the sprites are too big and the view field is too small. Combat is shallow and the jump control doesn't really go with the fast paced action the game is going for
Now if you want to explain to me what it does right then I'm all ears. Maybe I missed something. Who knows.
The Lunar series. Every game seems sub-par for the system it's released on in terms of character design and gameplay, and YouTube videos of its battles make it seem very clunky.
Also, Megami Tensei games. Combining mazes with a high encounter rate just seems like a formula to ruin everyone's day.
Lets have a webm/gif thread of retrogames, i really need to fill up my folder.
I want to save as much as possible, no rules post whatever you have, i really appreciate it.
Whats more satisfying? Inserting a cartridge into a console like a genesis or n64, or inserting a disc into something like a Playstation or Saturn?
>>2904237
Carts are superior and when future alien civilizations find ours they will still be able to play them
>>2904237
Carts

Inserting my penis into your wife
This is a rather specific question, but can /vr/ think of any retro 3D titles that have similar atmosphere and gameplay as Dark Souls?
Pic maybe related
I don't know, but consider checking out King's Field or Shadow Tower since they're also from From.
>>2900515
Oh look. It's this thread again.
Also on PC, although that version is essentially a completely different game since it was handled by a different studio, with virtually no communication between the two developers. This was frankly one of the most bizarre porting decisions I've ever seen.
Do you use arcade sticks for general /vr/ gaming and not just for fighting games/shmups/mame?
I've found it works really well. Mega Man games in particular feel really nice.
>>2900286
Love em for fighters and beat em ups and often enough for platformers.
Really have been meaning to pick up an NES advantage because it translates well to most NES games too and I haven't used one since something like 1995.
It really does something to make the game feel more lively
Beat'em ups gain a lot with arcade sticks.
>>2900286
Most arcade style games benefit from a stick.
I like to use my SNES advantage for JRPG grinding since its the only turbo controller i own.
Has anyone figured out what actress played her? It's the live action Jill Valentine in the original 1996 Resident Evil. In the credits she's listed as "Inezh".
Here's a video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GyOYaDHquE
>>2896265
Wasn't she in some softcore porn films, that's it?
>>2896265
Bump. I've always been curious about this too. Surely there must be some behind the scenes photos from the cutscene shoots for RE1.
ITT: Cute games that could get more love.
Entire game is like those sadistic mario bros hacks that used to be a thing on youtube.
any excuse
https://youtu.be/IpPa46VOyPw
>>2896249
I love Croc, but it isn't a cute game by any standard. It's downright terrifying in places.
The sequels, that might actually be considered "cute", are trash.
