Happy New Year /vr/! What are your gaming resolutions this year? What are you planning to finally play or beat?
My gaming resolution is to try to stick as hard to retro games as possible, and really learn and understand more about emulation and older titles. Also, to try keeping a record of what I play so I can stay on track and not just load a ROM, play for two minutes and never do it again.
Also, to see if it's actually possible to play JPN titles with working Japanese knowledge like some anons say. I'm gonna try to play a Japanese (text intensive) game even if I have to sit with a dictionary translating line by line. Hoping that this is a decent way to learn some things.
Finally finish Gaiares
only kidding, I know it will never happen
But I'll keep trying.
After an entire fucking year of owning a Genesis, I should really just finally bite the bullet and drop that $150 on a mega everdrive
Why would they make Fallout 2 literally unbeatable at this part? Are there any mods to make this part actually beatable?

>That playthrough
Holy shit he is worse than DSP.
>>2888252
Yeah, gitting gud
>>2888252
Reminder that there are at least 4 ways I can think of right now to get past that part.
>There's a new version of Yabause from japanese developper Devmiyax, based on his recent android port uoYabause. This version is a great improvement from original Yabause, on par with SSF and even better on some games.

>On my machine (2500k @ 4.0GHz, GTX 970), I was able to get 60fps in every 2D game I tried, and 40-50fps in the 3D games I tried in software mode. If I switch to OpenGL, I get 60fps in everything, but there are graphical bugs, and there's no way to increase the size of the window without increasing the internal rendering resolution.
>If someone is interested, could you try this emulator out and tell us what sort of performance you're getting? This seems really promising.
>>2888219
I am quite excited.
No interest.
>>2888260
>I have so little interest, I posted that I had no interest. That'll show them.
Anyone tried anything like this? It sticks onto the base d-pad.
>>2887925
yeah it also sucks and comes off if you sneeze on it wrong
>>2887925
You realise it's just a regular d-pad underneath, not individual cursor buttons right?
Right?
>>2887925
I have. They're shit
Started re-playing Knights of Xentar/Dragon Knight III and I'm really enjoying the combination of old school JRPG and random sleaze.
The writing is actually funny at times. And it's only as a grown-ass man that I've picked up on the reference of the rich guy in the first village, "Frump", who lives in "Frump Tower". What a doozy!
Are there any similar games available in english? Any old games that have been fan translated recently?
Also sleazy retro games in general, I guess.
These fucking guys...
Literally starting naked is a nice way to make fun of RPG tropes. The villagers have some interesting reactions to that.
Why do people dislike this again?
I mean,it's clearly inferior to it's predecessors but it still wasn't a cash abomination like that playstation game.
>>2886226
What Playstation game?
>>2886231
not /vr/ though,I just mentioned it because it's grouped with FO1,2 e tactics as the pre-bethesda games.
>>2886238
oh that
i refuse to play that, it looks like shit
Is this shit ever going to be polished up and released? I had heard they were trying to get it finally pushed out.
>>2885931
It's been polished up and released since fuckin February you dipshit.
It's been polished and released already.
Basically never, not the way you're thinking anyway. The level files and engine that leaked earlier this year were a fucking mess, not near anything worth playing. There's a guy working on a playable reinterpretation of it in an all-new modern engine that looks fantastic. You can check out the difference in this video

Hello /vr/,
another thread about autism and the aspect ratio of NES and SNES.
We all know that 8:7 is not the aspect ratio displayed by the real console.
My problem or rather confusion is the following:
In Retroarch I play with Aspect Ratio provided by the core, which is 4:3.
Now if you tick or untick the option "crop overscan" the image will get stretched differently.
Without overscan cropping it's 1280x960px and with it's 1196x896px.
Which one is the right one? Or is it a completely different one? This question goes for NES and SNES.

I thought the console did output 8:7 ? I dunno I wasn't keeping up with the threads I just remember one a month ago.

With a commercial resurfacing machine.
What are /vr/'s best recommendations of Sega Genesis games? I used to play a lot of them when I was a kid, my absolute favorites have been the Phantasy Star series (IV>III>II) and some of the good platform ones (Tiny Toons, Ristar, Toejam and Earl, obviously Sonic) but I'm wondering if I missed some others.
D A I L Y S E G A THREAD
Gunstar Heroes
Alien Soldier
Dynamite Headdy
Contra: Hard Corps
Streets of Rage 2
Streets of Rage 3
Rocket Knight Adventures
Shinobi 3
Ecco the Dolphin
Aladdin (superior to the SNES version)
This shit made my childhood and i never got the chance to beat it, just want to hear your guys thoughts about this masterpiece
I remember seeing the ads as a kid - I didn't own a PSX and wasn't allowed to play violent video games yet so the game looked mysterious and AWESOME.
I picked up a copy in 2015 and was sort of underwhelmed. I can imagine how it would have been amazing in 97/98.

MDK2 was a disappointment, but it's also not retro, so thankfully we don't have to think about it here.
>>2877598
MDk2 is on the dreamcast m8, so we can talk about it. Honestly, I thought MDK2 was a decent game.
Why is this game so cheap everywhere online?
Also, Pilotwings thread.
It was a launch title. That means tons of copies available.
I've always wanted a copy of this game for no other reason than to see Nester again.
>>2874791
I could never get into it even though I really liked the rocketman-missions. The rest was just too uninteresting for me, but I really liked the prequel.
How do I achieve the SNES's 8:7 picture on my tv/CRT ? If I bought a framemiester thing, would it add the black bars for me ?
Use a CRT on which you can significantly adjust the dimensions. Yours probably can. Learn about the service menu.
>>2886805
It's a JVC AV-27D303, googling how to do that now, thanks anon.
