Which one?
>>2889963
Phantasy Star for me. It has better, more interesting themes and settings, and I like how there's a consistent plotline that has an immensely satisfying end. Final Fantasy has great gameplay ideas in some games, but it's like it's trying too hard when it comes to setting and plot. Phantasy Star has an understated, effortless style of pulling stuff that FF beats you over the head over and over in an attempt to manipulate you into caring about the plot. FF is good too, but PS is better for me.
>>2889972
What order of Phantasy Star games would you recommend playing through?
>>2889984
Wow, I can't believe there's people like this that exist. They didn't all come out at the same time and also have numbers to help you figure it out.
Anyone remember playing this BYOND fangame of Final Fantasy 4/2 as a multiplayer rpg on here?

It's back.
https://warosu.org/vr/thread/1706789 An old thread for a refresher and a screenshot as a reminder.
It got taken down last time for copyright claims by square enix, despite it not being hosted officially, try to do the host a favor and not spill spaghetti everywhere.

LOOOOOL nice try
>>2859318
That's the address you put in the BYOND client.
Are you retarded.

Cute. I'm still not downloading that fucking virus
Why did America choose to makes their version of the snes hideous?
I feel physically ill just looking at it. Can someone give me a legitimate explanation?
It was so it could be more easily used as a place to set your soda can.
I actually think the SFC looks too toylike.
had both as a kid, found the us version to be prettier, especially the buttons on the us one were nicer
So it occurred to me that the N64 has a 6 button setup right out of the box. Are there any good fighting games that take advantage of this?
Also general fighting games thread.
There isn't any Capcom or SNK fighting game on the N64.
But there's KI Gold, Rakuga Kids, Flying Dragon, Super Robot Spirits, War Gods, MACE, Dark Rift, G.A.S.P, Fighter's Destiny, Clayfighter 63 1/2, and a few others.
Most of them are mediocre 3D fighters that don't come close to Virtua Fighter or Tekken, but Flying Dragon has a SD mode with RPG elements that's actually really fun, better than the main game.
The more traditional 2D games you'll find are KI and Rakuga Kids (which is actually a hilarious underrated game).
Oh yeah, there's also Mortal kombat Trilogy and MK4.
>>2907275
Where can you even buy Rakuga Kids besides ebay?
>>2907280
I'm sorry, but are you being serious? Is this some sort of troll?
Think of where you might buy a Nintendo 64 game that isn't on ebay normally.
Why was every platform game from the west so awful compared to the Japanese ones? They're all collect-a-thons with bad controls and zero gameplay variety.
>>2906981
Because Japan is the country that took game development seriously instead of shitting out bad games.
Probably because western developers largely came from a computer game background where games were lower budget and they had to deal with serious problems like one button joysticks.
>>2906984
Then how come Euro games always sound and look better?
Couldn't find any threads related to Metroid and I'm looking to getting into the series. I want to start with the original, though in my research I found that Zero Mission is a remake of the original. Should I play Zero Mission instead of the original, or is it like playing Twin Snakes instead of MGS?
>>2906618
Zero mission is frankly better in every way. It's an excellent remake.
>>2906618
Zero Mission>Original
The original is still playable(especially if you LOVE 8-bit games) but it is definitely one of those cases where the remake wins out.
>>2906621
>better in every way
It's lower resolution than the original.
Which are some baffling decisions that happened for no good reason?
Like the American SNES design, I mean, what the hell, not aggressive enough for NoA's higher ups?
>>2905797
Well, I heard that NoA made this design so americans couldn't put cola on units - NESes were often broken because of cola.
Not sure if it's just a joke about americans though.

Presumably because the NES redesign worked so well for them. The SFC looks nice too but I honestly really like the American SNES. Not sure why some people feel so strongly about it
>>2905819
This makes sense but it's not like the other SNES design is flat enough to put drinks on either.
Name one controller better than this. No memes
>>2905795
well that was fast
>>2905795
>A button farthest away from where your thumb is going to be on the controller
It's shit
Admit it /vr. You've smashed a controller in anger before. What made you do it?
>>2905063
>Shoulder charge, shoulder charge, shoulder charge. HAHAHAHA. You will never win. Smash.
>>2905063
I did when I was a teenager but I snapped out of it when I threw a controller causing it to bounce off the wall and right into my face.
Perhaps, if I did I don't remember it seeing as it was 20+ years ago.
I'm not a fucking child anymore who throws a tantrum when I lose in a game.
How come games like Fallout 1, Boulders Gate, and Deus Ex aged like shit and are no longer fun to play while games like OOT and Super Mario 64 are hella fun and still enjoyable to this day?
>aged
OoT is less fun than any of the games you mentioned before. I think it might have something to do with you being a massive faggot though.
This thread is going to be great.
Am I simply not well adjusted to the difficulty and speed of old school fps or is this game simply really, really hard
Duke and Shadow Warrior are superior. Only hipsters will disagree.
>>2902285
to give some perspective I have played shadow warrior and loved every minute of it on the second to highest difficulty. same goes for Doom and Duke but this game just seems unbelievably unforgiving haha. Playing on the middle difficulty even.
>or is this game simply really, really hard
Yes, it is really hard. I believe someone posted here a while back that the biggest criticisms it received when it came out was the difficulty and that the developers intended for the hardest modes to be played with co-op.
>>2902285
It really comes down to your preferences. They are quite different, besides using the same engine and being hard.
N64 Best of the Best thread.
This was a really good game.
>>2901937
I heard the quasi-sequel/directors cut legacy of darkness was better
Haven't played either yet though
Ok, you can start
I don't even like the N64 but the Castlevania games on the system are good and underrated.
What was the best looking SNES game? Or most technically impressive, if you want to get autistic about it.
For some reason I was always impressed by the reflections in ToP. It did a lot of neat things with shadows, too.
I was always amazed at the rubber band physics in Umihara Kawase.
>>2901401
Are you retarded?
I still maintain that Super Mario world is timeless it its effective use of a generally simple color palette, and it remained the best looking SNES game for the first two years of that system.
Is there a complete list of PS games never released outside of Europe/Japan?
There was a set of two images with japanese games and the ammount of language underatanding you need to play them that was often posted here on /vr/. I'll later search it
>>2900890
That was limited to adventure games though
>>2900891
Yet it's a big list worth considering imo
Good snes games, from overrated to underrated.
The 3 Top Gear racing games were amazing games! Especially the music in these games. Very underrated series and a personal favorite of mine. Especially pic related.
Super Mega Zombies Jam X
Final Metroid All-Stars
Lost Gear Bonk Kart
