How about we have a comfy Murder/Detective games thread?
I'm playing J.B. Harold right now, are there any other recommended Detective games? I've played Deja Vu, NIghtshade and Famicom Tantei Club.

Tex Murphy -series. I played the first game already and it was kinda frustrating and awful, but the other games in the series are clearly better. The later games in the series also have FMV which is awesome.

What is your preferred Sega Genesis model?

My opinion is that you can't go wrong with a Model 1, however I prefer the Model 2 because it looks sexier, it doesn't look ugly with the Model 2 Sega CD (not to mention a working model 1 Sega CD is hard to come by), and you don't need to plug a stereo cable into the front. Downside is that some models have ugly composite output, but if you're using RGB then that doesn't really matter.

The Model 3 isn't really worth bothering with unless you are going to mod it for at least stereo output, and preferably RGB output and a power LED. Everything about it is pretty stripped down compared to the prior two versions. Modding it for the 32X and Sega CD is possible but ultimately pointless, because hooking them together looks ugly as sin (you might as well just get a CDX). The only real reasons I'd ever really recommend it, is if you think it looks cute, or if you have a SNES Jr. and you want the Sega equivalent to match.

>it doesn't look ugly with the Model 2 Sega CD

Are you implying the Model 1 does'

>Downside is that some models have ugly composite output

No, downside is that some models have abysmal audio clarity, around the late model 1s and early model 2s.

Genesis 3 is actually really good on this front, but the earlier Model 1 will always be the right choice, because of the ladder effect and proper mixing.
>>
Nomad.

I'm not kidding. It has the best video out of all the systems I've tested (using RGB of course), and the audio is better than the Model 2.
>>
>>3158019
While I do think Model 2 looks a lot more modern, the original Model 1 looks more like a gaming machine, if that makes sense. Model 2 looks kind of like a flat black piece of plastic with nothing in it.

The super smooth movement. It's one of the reasons I like vanilla-ish settings. No recoil or other fancy weapon effects, no mouselook, just super stable and smooth blasting while on turbo rollerskates.

Talk to me about flash carts /vr/. Right now I'm thinking about getting one for my N64, and maybe more down the road for other systems.

How is compatibility? Where is the best place to buy them? Is it really as easy as dropping a rom on an SD card and going to town?

>How is compatibility?
other than SNES you get damn near 100%
>Where is the best place to buy them?
either from krikzz directly or a chink knockoff (no warranty or support from krikzz though)
>Is it really as easy as dropping a rom on an SD card and going to town?
yes, plus the OS/firmware/etc file/folder you get from krikzz' site

i have a bunch:
nes n8
sd2snes
ed64 v2.5
edmd v3
turboed
(rhea)
(gdemu)

i'm happy to answer any questions you might have
>>
>>3156779
You're too kind anon.

Why the caveat for SNES? I'm assuming it has to do with the number of unique chips that found their way into SNES carts?

I'm looking at Kirkzz' site and there's an ED64v3 now. How's your experience with the 2.5 been, and would it be worth it to get the 3 over the 2.5?
>>
>>3156797
>unique chips that found their way into SNES carts?
yeppers you can install a dsp chip on the superED to play dsp games (pilot wings, mario kart) but the sd2snes plays them out of the box as well as cx4 games like megaman. essentially, sd2snes can emulate all special chips except SA-1 (super mario rpg) and FX(2) games like star fox

ED64v3 fixes compatibility with animal crossing and pokemon stadium, iirc, so not worth it unless you really want to play it

Can we have a thread about this topic? Prototype games like Resident Evil 1.5 and Earthbound 64 are interesting as hell. All discussion about alpha/beta stages of games welcome too, an example would be the development stages of Zelda 64.

What's the most weeb /vr/ console? The popular choices are probably PC Engine CD or Saturn, but there's also the PC FX, and the Super Nintendo / Famicom was the weeaboo console of choice in the UK due to Super Play. What say you, /vr/?

PC-FX because of its purity. The only game without traditional hand drawn 2D is Return to Zork.
It even had a cute girl mascot.
>>
I would say any of them depending on what games you get. But if you got money and wanna go hard in the paint get neo geo

http://archive.is/ecnCT

This kind of shit is what's wrong with the industry. After the Wild West style business of the 80's and 90's, the gaming industry is all out of Clint Eastwoods. Now we're stuck with Heath Ledgers like Randy, all fighting over their own little cum stained patch of Brokeback Mountain.

In Randy's never-ending quest to ruin as much IP as possible, he is now trying to wrestle away the rights to a mobile port of Duke Nukem 3D written by eDuke32 developer TerminX. This deal was signed with 3DRealms before Randy bought the rights to the franchise, and all the contracts that went along with it.

TerminX has been writing and maintaining the PC port for over a decade, keeping what could have been a great franchise alive. Unfortunately that's not enough for old Randy Bobandy, who would gladly do something far worse than take candy from a baby. He has to own it all.

Fuck this guy and the horse he rode in on. What a scumbag.

I agree, Randy is a wanglord and I hope his feet get run over by a steamroller.
>>
For clarification, and for to those who may not know, it is important to rewind a little the history of Gearbox and Duke Nukem 3D.

After 3DRealms went under, Gearbox made a deal to release Duke Nukem Forever.
That deal included the rights to DNF and to "any NEW Duke Nukem game".
3DRealms still owned Duke Nukem 3D and every single Duke game already released.

3DR died and Interceptor bought what was left of it.
They wanted to do a lot of cool shit for DN3D and also its community.

But Gearbox said "no you can't do that, we own DN3D"; so of course Interceptor was all like "wtf man? No you don't".
So then Gearbox sued them, which no matter who would win in the end, halted every of their Duke related process.

And in the end, Gearbox won and went through the court door with the entire Duke IP.

For some it is. For a while, that used to be true for me as well but I never got into after the spectacular, if a bit rushed, opening moments.

I'm a 1-3 + REmake kind of fan and I even got some mileage out of 4 but that is it. 3 will always be the last great RE for me.
