What's the most disturbing retro game you've ever played?
pic somewhat related
Probably phantasmagoria that shit was bizarre, never play it though, some parts are funny others too bizarre
>>3180787
oddly enough i just finished reading the book. guess i'll have to play the game now.
>>3180787
Harvester without a doubt.
I Have No Mouth is a close second.
I've never played this game...mainly because I've always been under the impression that it's a strategy guide game, aka a game you pretty much NEED a guide for if you wanna make progress
Have I been wrong all this time?
>>3177827
To make Metroid crawl you have to press down twice
That's the only artificial difficulty in the game honestly
What the fuck? One of the main things people bring up when praising it is how well it guides the player with its level design.
Completing Super Metroid without a guide is very possible. (I did.) It will just take you longer. But that's part of the fun.
Exploration is a big part of what makes Super Metroid great, so I would only use a guide if I absolutely had to.
Cheat if you want, but don't cheat yourself out of experiencing one of the finest Super NES games in all its unspoiled glory.
How do you go from this...
...to this?
very carefully

Pauline looks like a slut.

>dust covered consoles

Pros:
>Nice stand, looks slick
Cons:
>Virtual Boy legs are on BACKWARDS. Nintendo logo on the badge on the legs should be facing you.
>Tons of fucking handhelds that are just stacked sloppily
>Stacking consoles sloppily on top of others
>stacking anything on top of anything
>Consoles hanging off the sides
>PS4 and PS3 look ready to fall at any instant
>Really badly aged NES and SNES, do some anti-aging or get new ones
>Black Wii, with silver stand
>Stand is torn up on the bottom left, carpet looks disgusting and worn
>>3172665
Handhelds and consoles go in separate sections.
You have black consoles mixed up with gray/white/silver consoles, instead of separating them into neatly conforming areas.
You have way too much shit on that TV stand and need a larger one or more stands around it.
So aside from fighting games, are there any instances where the Saturn got the better version of third party releases?
I keep hearing it has the best version of Tomb Raider since it was originally developed with the hardware in mind. Not sure how true that is since I've never actually played any of those games.

Saturn version of Silhouette Mirage is better than PSX.
Croc is debatable but I'd say the Saturn version is overall better.
Pretty much any fps. Ie. Powerslave.
Hands down the best 3D retro fighting game.
Maybe if you only had a PS1 as a kid.
>>3182706
please, vf2 was good for its time but it doesnt touch tekken 3
imo tekken 3 was the peak of the series but i would like to try tekken 7 if it ever comes out here
>>3182710
>vf2 was good for its time
What do you mean? it's still good.
What retro game do you turn to for maximum comfiness /vr/? I personally find the first Harvest Moon game very relaxing.
>>3179585
Stardew Valley is not retro. Reported.
>>3179607
>>3179585
Yeah, relaxing and somber.
It brings that slice of life feeling to you that few other games manage, later Harvest Moon's included.
Daily reminder that the SNES was far superior to the Sega Genesis.
Name ONE Genesis game that competes with Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 6, Terranigma, Castlevania 4, Turtles through Time, Secret of Mana 1 and 3, Super Mario Bros, Mario RPG, Megaman X, and the myriad of other classics.
Also daily reminder that Sonic is a generic kid's platformer game that spawned a generation of autistic fanboys (Chris Chan) who ended up becoming the predecessor to Bronies
Pretty much
Weak. We all know PC Engine is where it's at.
Genesis didn't have many titles of super metroid calibre. Just alot of OK games
Do you like to speedrun any retro videogames, /vr/?

Just Tomba 2.
>>3185496
kek
Donkey Kong Country 2.
Compare specs, graphics, post pics, etc. Which was more capable? Which had the best games?
Visual capability:
SNES > SMD > PCE
Performance:
SMD > PCE > SNES
Sound:
SMD > PCE > SNES (lol, 64k sram)
Controller:
SMD (6-button) > PCE (6-button) > SNES > SMD (3-button) > PCE (2-button)
Overall winner: Sega Mega Drive
>>3184883
>Performance:
>PCE > SNES
This is kinda debatable, sure the PCE doesn't have many slowdowns, but that's mainly because all the games have shittons of flickering.
>>3184883
Visual Capability:
NeoGeo > SNES > SMD
Scrolling
NeoGeo > SMD > SNES
Sound
NeoGeo > SMD = SNES
Controller
NeoGeo > SMD > SNES
Length of singleplayer
SNES > SMD > NeoGeo
SMD had fucktons of arcade ports but also rocket knight adventure wich is my favorite SMD game and is pretty long i think
>First PS1 game you ever played?
>Absolute favorite game?
>That obscure game you love but doesn't get enough love on the internet?
>Currently playing?
Just finished Crash 1-3 and CTR, they were a bit on the easy side. CTR was the first thing I played on the PS1, 3D grafx blew my mind into smithereens.
>Twisted Metal (actually Destruction Derby first, but both the same day)
>Resident Evil 2, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy 7
>Runabout 2, Blade Arts, Gungage
>Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve
Crash 2.
Crash 2, RE 2 and 3, FFIX, Wipeout 2097/XL, Tekken 3.
Colony Wars, not really obscure I guess.
Resident Evil 2 and 3...again...for the 500th time.
>>3183235
>Colony Wars, not really obscure I guess.
to be fair, It took me a month to find the name of pic related, based of of nothing but me remembering playing the first level when i was six.
Other than the fact that the masses are retarded, why is this game considered terrible? It is literally one of my favorite games ever. This is one of the few gaijin developed RPGs that was ported to several Japanese platforms (SFC, Marty, X68K). I understand the translation is shit, but it's nothing that makes the game unplayable. It had beautiful graphics for its time. The music is wonderful, haunting at times, and immersive. Kemco's 'remix' gave it that Shadowgate/Uninvited horror excitement factor. One review in particular claimed this game is "only for the patient". Please explain to me why you hate it, sperglords of /vr/.
>>3183160
This board only listens to YouTubers, they won't touch this game with a ten foot pole because Joey Fagface said it sucks.
>>3183160
Way to prove you have shit taste. Oh wait, this is an anime board. Of course you have no clue about what doesn't suck.
Fact - This game is way better than Earthbound.
How would /vr/ make Sonic 4 in the 90s as a sequel to 3&K?
Would it be on Saturn? What levels would there have been? Characters? Story?
No Robotnik. Sonic will have to train at the sonic academy for a long time and then face his arch rival on the Sega Dreamcast. Coldsteel the Hedgehog
>>3182293
psst..nothing personnel kid..
I would introduce a new wacky friend which is featured prominently in half the game while Sonic himself gets sidelined.
What PS1 games CAN'T I play on PSP?
I'll also accept games that are technically playable, but have a bad experience.
So far I've got:
Ape Escape
Alien: Resurrection
Gran Turismo 2 (Can't get analog controls working)
>>3182124
I still have trouble playing Dino Crisis to this day. I either get random crashes on older firmware, an unusable shotgun (Crashes the game), or screwed up entities rendered wrong such as things that render through the background.
Interestingly enough, the last issue occurs with some other capcom games when emulated. Onimusha has that same issue on PS2 emulation.
>>3182124
Valkyrie Profile.
>>3182152
Lenneth exists though.
so who thought this was a good idea?
Nintendo
Gunpei Yokoi.
