This topic seems slightly relevant. Lately I've been finding myself extremely uncomfortable with the heavy imbalance of key usage while gaming on my keyboard. W gets far and wide more abuse than any key on my keyboard. It's got to the point I start using S and strafing to run backwards to try and even up the load so my w key doesn't get destroyed before the others. I guess I just worry the key is wearing down mechanically much faster than the others. Like the spring will go first no doubt from the key being depressed almost constantly compared to the rest. Next time you're playing something with the keyboard just remember this and think about how much more w gets abused. It's kind of cringy to anyone who has OCD about their hardware staying intact.

I don't use ESDF a whole lot but it's the only way I can play STALKER. With leaning, crouch/prone, flashlight/night vision, weapon firing modes, inventory, pda, and the map all being nice to have at a moment's notice you can really feel the benefit from the extra keys.

I play stalker just fine with wsad. Just moved most functions down to below the movement and wrapped around the right. Do you really need fire mode forward and back? There's only ever 3 fire modes at most. One button for the inventory/PDA. And if you can reach to TGV you're done.
