Hey guys! I'm pretty new to this board, but I'm taking my bike from Appleton, WI to Utah Valley this week, starting on Tuesday. I don't really know if this is the place for it, but if anyone has an open couch along the way, or suggestions for what I should see, I'm open to possibilities!

So far, I'll be going to the mall of america, the badlands, black hills, yellowstone, and teton national park.

I'm riding an '83 Honda Shadow 500, and it'll be my first trip on the bike longer than 2 hours. I don't really know what else, so I guess that's it!

Thanks in advance!

I've got a duffel on the back, along with a small tent, sleeping bag and hammock. The only extra fuel I've got is my reserve tank (3.0 gal tank, .53 gal reserve) but I don't expect to need any more than that; there are stations all over along my route. A fill up every 100 miles should do me fine.
No forward pegs unfortunately, as I didn't have time to get them mounted.
Pic related, it's my bike

Hey /trv/ Looking for a short trip into Asia during november. Probably around two weeks, at the moment it is a bit of a toss up between China and Vietnam. Looking at travelling towards the end of November, I am flexible on the destination, just wondering if there are any events in any of these countries during that time, or if that time of the year is good to visit somewhere specifically.

China will kick your ass off you're not well prepared for it. Vietnam would probably be more tourist friendly especially for two weeks.
>>
>>1281226
Do the touristical route in China (Beijing-Xian-Nanjing-Hangzhou-Shanghai). But do it guided. It is impossible go alone if you don't speak Chinese.

Like a contiki? I've never done a tour group before, any alternatives to contiki ?

I'm going to US at the end of august from Portugal to Miami (with a stop at Madrid) in Iberia.

I have some doubts about the US "electronics ban". Can i take my tablet with me and use it during the travel?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
As far as I know The electronic ban only affects certain airports in certain muslims countries. You should be fine
>>
>>1281427
Keep following the news. At some point there were even rumors of it being made a global ban. Let's hope not.
>>
>>1281207
Check with your airline carrier.
If anything you can put your tablet in your checked luggage.

Why are Americans so shadowy and non-specific when it comes to food into the U.S?
I cant find ANY info on tortellini or Nutella on my checked baggage. Any experienced travelers can help me out?
4 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>1281203
Tortellini is permitted, but you must declare it and it must go through a certain quarantine period. I think it's 14 days but I might be wrong. Contact the airline, or better yet contact the officials at the US airport where you will be landing. Nutella is only legal in California, Colorado, and Washington State, but AFAIK it's still totally illegal to transport it across borders. The Federal government are really cracking down (thanks a lot Trump) so I wouldn't risk it. I've seen Nutella dogs in action at a number of US airports and it's pretty amazing how sensitive they are.

Eat a jar of Nutella before your flight. Scoop it out of your asshole a couple days later. What is so hard about that?

Question for any New Yorkers or anybody with knowledge of the city.

I'm in NYC for the week and I was looking for some good places to pick up old WWII era medals or other militaria. I was thinking of visiting either the Chelsea or Hells Kitchen flea market.

Anybody know which of these is more likely to have old school militaria? Or even better does anyone know any stores that sell military medals in NYC or Long Island.

I doubt either of those places will have much to anything of what you would be interested in OP. I could be wrong, but thinking of the demgraphics of those neighborhoods there wouldn't have been any soldiers in those neighbhorhoods left selling all their stuff, nor would they have a house up there. They would have binned it and left for Florida. Outer boroughs maybe.

Is it worthwhile to go to SEA, or much of East Asia to be frank, if you have a peanut allergy?

It's not severe as it used to be, I could eat one and take some allergy medicine and be fine. But if there's going to be crude peanut oil in pretty much every single dish then it's going to be very difficult for me to eat the food there, which is one of the reasons I want to go most
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1281044
Yes. Don't eat peanuts while there, I guess.

Learn the word for "peanut" in the language(s) of the place(s) you plan to visit, or make some cards that explain your allergy in the local language.

And if you need an epipen or whatever, have that.

Sort of like going anywhere when you have a food allergy.
>>
>>1281044
Well, as far as I know people who are allergic to peanuts can still consume peanut oil as the allergens are not extracted along with the oil. Only those with very severe allergies can't consume it. Have you tried eating it?

Yeah it will be a big issue in a lot of east Asian countries. You'd just have to avoid foods that could potentially be fried in peanut oil. Eat a lot of soups as usually they don't have any peanuts. Go to supermarkets and buy your own food, the region will have a lot of western foods sold there so you can buy foods you know. And speaking of western foods, a lot of restaurants also serve western food there so you might be forced to eat some burgers.

I would stay away from street food unfortunately unless you know the dish the vendor is selling definitely doesn't have peanuts and there isn't a variation that doesn't. Also print out cards saying you absolutely can't have anything with peanuts and ask around in areas where you want to eat for them to recommend you a food that doesn't have any peanuts.
>>
>>1281044
Depends on how severe your allergy is. If it's not fatal, then bring some medication. If it's potentially fatal but not extremely so, bring an EpiPen or three, get someone to write out "help get me to the hospital I am having an allergic reaction to peanuts" on a sheet of paper, and have travel medical insurance.

If you're one of those "just a sniff will put me in a coma" types, then stay the fuck away. I can tell you from firsthand experience that they never pay any fucking attention to what you tell them about allergies, figuring "just another annoying foreigner", and then don't believe it when someone goes into anaphylactic shock.

Also, the medical care in all these countries is complete shit unless you are a "rich foreigner" who can pay for top-notch treatment in a "foreigner hospital" like Bumrungrad. And even then, it depends on whether the country and particular part of the country you're in even has one of those.

I'm living in Taiwan, and again from firsthand experience, ALL hospitals and doctors here are complete shit. I was paying full cash price for Adventist, and the incompetent quack there was ignoring what I kept telling him. It took my company sending someone with me to another hospital, where she shouted at the doctor until the doctor sighed and actually bothered to give me some medication, to get treated, and that was for simple high blood pressure. At Adventist, the incompetent fucktard kept telling me, "You're just anxious because you're in a hospital, go home and your blood pressure will be fine again." No, you stupid quack, I'm in your office because my arteries are about to blow out and my heart is thrashing around trying to pump too hard. One fucking pill a day is all it takes, and it costs seven cents, but no, can't spend that on a fucking foreigner even if he's paying cash for it and not eating up the National Health Insurance money.

Going to drive from Boston to Quebec city through Maine next summer(probably June or August). We have between 3 and 5 days to do the trip, so we dont have a lot of time. Thus, I am seeking your wisdom.

>First of all, which route would you recommend?
We are quite sure we are driving through Maine, but it is not carved in stone. NH and Vermont is also interesting. Going through Montreal area is not interesting tho, because we are going there after Quebec city. it is totally fine to spend some extra time in the car instead of sticking to a boring highway.

> Good tips for places to visit/stay over?
Mostly we would like to go to small towns/places. Is Camden worth visiting? We are interested in nature, history and culture.

> Some local food/drinks we should try?
> Any bars/breweries worth visiting?
> Any places that is overrated?

I understand that it might be difficult to help with such a short trip, but I would be very grateful for any help.

Sup /trv/ I'm an American, I'll be going to San Pedro Atacama (Chile) on November to do missionary work with the Association of Baptists for World Evangelism (ABWE). My work includes attending orphanages in Northern Chile and volunteer work in the shantytowns (poblaciones).

Anyway, I have some questions maybe some Chileanon can help me out...

1. How dangerous are the "poblaciones"? I know Southern South America is generally very safe and has none of the gang problems of places like Columbia or Brazil, but still, I will be going deep into trouble areas so any advice you can give me would be nice?

2. What attractions are there to do in the area? I was planning to visit the Atacama desert and go camping at night, I heard there are tours about it but I don't know the price. I was planning to visit Valparaiso too, I've been told it's a short trip.

3. Are Americans well-liked there? How should I dress? I'm a blonde guy and I don't want to stand out like a sore thumb regardless, it's never good to look like an obvious tourist. How do Atacama people dress? It gets really cold at night, right? I've been told I should pack both very light clothes for the day, and winter clothes for the night, is this accurate?

Thanks in advance

You gonna get rape

2. Chile has zero attractions except fancy resorts way cheaper than you are from.

3. If you aren't fat nor old, lolis will crave your dick and pickpockers for your wallet. Its cold but not like the US

Atacama is pretty relaxed. Lots of people coming and going. Causal dress , normal shorts, light trousers etc.

There's little to do really. The dessert is fine but don't fall for the dark night tours to see the stars, it's dark everywhere.

There was a this website call eDreams but after entering the credit card info it says it can't complete the reservation. Tried a lot. What websites do you recommend or do you have a contact for cheap flights you can share. Thanks a lot, not native speaker.

Has anyone of you /trv/ friends been to Faroe Islands? I've been contemplating on the possibility of visiting the islands next summer. Round trip flights cost more or less 400 euros from here to Faroe Islands which is pretty OK I think. The hotels in Torshavn aren't cheap, the better one is more than 200 euros a night and the second best is liek 150 euros a night.

There's a lot of scenery to see and a lot of sheep to bump into while driving from one tunnel to another. Any other protips from fellow 4chan travelers?

Hey /trv/, first time visitor here. I'm looking to do 2 weeks of traveling next month and I'd really like to visit someplace where I can do some cool adventurous things. Caving, diving, hiking, snorkeling, maybe see some sights like the aurora borealis or a world heritage site.

I can go anywhere and I have about 3000$ to burn. Do any kind anons have suggestions that might fit? What places have you been that really touched you? I would be leaving from the southeast USA, and would like to avoid France/Spain/England as I've been to these places already.

Based on your criteria, I'd recommend Bali, as you can do all those things there (minus see the Aurora -- come to think of it, you won't see
the aurora anywhere in August). Bali is super touristy, however.
Other adventurous places which have 'touched' me:
>Morocco
Huge snow-capped mountains, forests, sand dunes, UNESCO sites galore
>Oman
Mountains, oases, caves, best castles outside of Europe. Google Wadi Shab and also Musandam
>Iceland
Less visible history, but more awesome nature than you can wrap your head around. Really fun to explore if you've read any of the Sagas.

I'm in Central America right now, might be up your alley
>Caving,
I think there are some
>diving,
Definitely, expensive though it is everywhere I believe
>hiking,
TONS of volcanoes and mountains
>snorkeling,
Yep, some really good reefs and animal interactions
>maybe see some sights like the aurora borealis or a world heritage site.
Dunno what you want but there's a lot of ruins

I am not very well traveled yet so I may not be the best resource

This isn't strictly a travel thread, but it applies a lot to situations while travelling -

Does anyone else feel strong desire to do crazy stuff or at least get out of my comfort zone to enjoy everyday life and travelling? My fondest travelling memories come from hitchhiking, couchsurfing and doing crazy things. My trips that were comfortable such as a romantic trip with a GF were also enjoyable, but nowhere nearly as satisfying as the adventures. They really make you feel alive and appreciate life.

I've started to get a bit depressed recently because my friends and a lot of people prefer this comfortable lifestyle/attitude, but I crave some sort of adventure or adrenaline.

Share your stories, advice, recommendations or thoughts on having this sort of mentality.

Not gonna lie, travel is a hell of a drug. Even on family trips with parents and siblings to occupy your time, I always found a way to slip through schedule constraints and do stupid shit for the thrills.

I only ever got the same rush of excitement from drug runs and adventures in college, and even then that was short lived.

Best story I can muster was seeing a prostitute in Paris while staying with family. I walked around Rue St. Denis in what looked like an Algerian neighborhood after exiting the metro. Sketchy as hell for the first twenty minutes of wandering. Found my way to the whores on Rue Blondel and got kicked out of a hookers apartment for having insufficient funds.

A little more wandering and I set up with another hooker later that night in her apartment . Decent experience, plus I got to try the local cuisine on the cheap. (Say what you will about Muslims and their terrible memes, but holy shit halal hamburgers are god-tier)
