What is up /trv/
I'm going to Iran for 2 weeks in september. Anyone been there? I'm taking 1 friend, maybe 2. We're from western Europe so we'll definitely stand out from the crowd.
How's hospitality there? Any must Sees? We'll be landing in Teheran and Will be sticking around there for the first part. Maybe taking an inland flight to Shiraz to see that Temple and then go back north to visit some cities like Estefan.
WELL ARE YOU EVER IN LUCK
Here's my list of what I want to visit when I go, which won't be until april/may next year sadly. It's mostly just straight from wikivoyage.
Also, I assume you know this already, but if you're from Great Britain, you need a visa in advance, as well as a mandatory guide. For the rest, what do you want to do. Do you want to see more "recent" architecture (they have some gorgeous mosques), or more ancient ruins, or something else.

Are you aware that you will need a VISA to ever enter the US if you visit Iran?

Hey /trv/, I'm traveling to Bosnia this Monday and I'm wondering if I should get travelers checks? This is my first time out of the country and I'm not sure what I should do for money outside of withdrawing money before I leave the US.
(I heard about these travelers cheques in like seventies movies or something? On nineties TV anyway.
Do people actually use that stuff and if so why?)
I am in no way affiliated with bank card companies, but like, just take a card...? There are ATM's all over the place. Check which one of your cards has the lowest fees.

lol Why did I think this was gonna be a real explanation of what travelers cheques are. But thanks for the validation.
What are some interesting, original or entertaining ideas for discussions or podcasts a small group of friends can have during a long car journey?

We're going to film it as a podcast. Maybe.

Hey /out/
I'm on vacation and I went to a Florida beach today
I fucked around in the water and the sand for a few hours and covered myself in sand for about 10 minutes(why not)
My question is:
Why the hell does my chest feel tight and sore?
Some shit to know:
>I'm under weight
>haven't been to the beach in a decade (but have swam in pools)
>No I didn't swallow any water
>I've been there for about 4 hours

I would love to travel, but I also probably shouldn't put off my career and stuff.
Anybody else know this feel?
>>1281620
Nope I just quit my job and ended a 4 year relationship to travel.
I know that feel, and then told that feel to get fucked.
Have got 6 years experience now though so I will always come back to a job when I want to.
>>1281620
I've been trying to get a job for 2 year now. I graduated college then had to move in with my parents for financial reasons. I finally got hired as a stocker at the local grocer and my boss was a massive ass. I had worked two and half months and I got about 2100 dollars in the bank from that. I told my boss to go fuck himself about a week ago and quit, and I'm headed to Mexico. My mom is freaking out, but whatever. This 9 to 5 crap is a joke, i plan on vlogging or writing a book or something. Anything but going back to slaving away for some fat guy who can't get over his power tripping. I plan on drinking coronas and getting a nice pretty senorita gf, so I did know that feel but not any longer.
Don't be a sucker OP, you be you.
>>1281642
>>1281646
That makes sense, I also quit my job
Here's another point of guilt though, my mum
I'm back at my mum's, and lots of my possessions are here. I feel I would be a jackass to go travelling and leave her with all my stuff. I know that she wants to move house at some point, so I'm just leaving her with everything.
Anyone else had that issue? Maybe I should get a job abroad, then I would be self-sufficient and my mum would probably be more okay with it
I have no urge to travel, but my girlfriend loves to travel. Any of you guys ever not like travelling, or had partners who didn't like travelling?
>>1281600
>girlfriend
Reeee
I'd have to say the worst is when both parties of the relationship are into traveling, but their priorities are different.
For example, the guy might be interested in checking out the jungles and rainforests and eating weird food. On the other hand, the girl might only be interested in traveling to resorts and just sitting at a beach, eating food that she's mostly familiar with.
>>1281606
Whats the point of the second one? Why not just go to a fucking local hotel and not spend all that money for a plane ticket?
Going to Montreal at the end of August for about a week, anybody have any idea of fun things to do?
I'm specifically looking for nightlife type stuff, places to eat, and hidden gems of the city. Any suggestions or recommendations are welcome
Bump
Going to study in montreal and am also interested
>>1281490
The strippers are world class
>>1281490
Have you ever been to the jazz festival in Montreal?
I'll be staying in Charlotte for 3 weeks with my boyfriend who lives in Shelby. We won't have a car but Uber's always an option.
Do you guys have any recommendations for places to visit? So far only the lakes and parks caught my eye but 3 weeks doing only that might get boring.
Go to asheville boone or wilmington
Charlottean here --hat sort of stuff interests you? The Bechtler Museum is good, the Museum of the New South is worth a short visit. Football preseason games start Aug 9 with the Panthers hosting the Texans. The whitewater center ids fun, Carowinds is a decent 2nd-tier theme park.
If oyu have any questions abotu restaurants, tc, I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Medieval Times.
If you're in North Carolina you got to go there.
hi everyone,
im going to gdansk at the end of august with some friends. we are looking for a fun, social hostel - not a party hostel, just one with a social atmosphere (like a central meeting area) or a good reputation for this kind of thing. ie id like to go there and meet people to talk to and maybe hang out with. can any of you recommend such a place?
outside of that, whats good to do and see there? im particularly interested in the hanseatic history, but id like to do any 'local' things (eg budapest baths) and eat any local food, drinks etc.
>>1280529
It's Danzig. And any "history" has been wiped out by the subhuman Slavs.
>>1280536
hans, you should really worry about your own cities before anyone elses. we all know youve got a bit of a pest problem there atm
there was that museum behind the main train station.... i will not remember the name, but architecturally it was nice already, and it has a viewpoint thst gives you a 360 view of gdansk, old town and port included.
i enjoyed all restaurants i ran into in gdansk, except that the service was shit on the main street, obviously.
they have a market, but it seemed overpriced, so ended up eating the same foods elsewhere.
they seem to be proud of their sushi, but it's not that great, so i don't get it. cabbage dishes all the way. there is a milk bar close to that ferris weel that might be interesting.
i enjoyed my sopot b&b waay more than gdansk actually. this random family ran b&b between the station and the sea (and hiking routes along the coast), was a great base.
I want to travel to a dangerous country. Hear me out.
I'm not talking about North Korea, or Iran, where I'd be detained as soon as I touched down on the tarmac, but more like a place that doesn't have many rules.
I'm basically looking for a country that doesn't have much in the way of law or regulation. It can't be absolutely war torn, because I do want to survive. Just a place that comes as close to legal anarchy as possible.
Any suggestions?
And please leave criticism out of it, I know what I'm getting myself into.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. A lot of people visit NK yearly. The same goes for Iran. Just because one American fucks up in NK doesn't mean it's "dangerous"
I'm flying to Mexico next week (from Germany) and have to change planes in the US twice. Both of my layovers are not longer than 2 hours. I have my Visa Waiver and a valid passport for travel. I've read so many bad stories online that I'm horrified my bag will vanish and I will get stranded in the US. Anything I should prepare myself for?
>>1279574
You're overthinking this quite a bit this is very uncommon, however.
>keep important documents and papers in your carry on
>keep cash/cards/phone/laptop with you on carryon
Should be fine with doing those two things
You gon get dragged out, OP.
What are your thoughts on Lisbon? Is it a good travel destination? Anyone of you lived there for a longer period of time?
>>1279465
>Is it a good travel destination?
How do you define "good"? If you like good food, good wine, warm sunny weather, walkable cities with interesting history and architecture, then Lisbon is a good travel destination. It's relatively cheap by European standards has arguably the sunniest weather of anywhere on the continent, and there's a pretty good bus/train network to help you explore the rest of the country and Spain, too.

Oh and if you're a burger, you might like to know that prostitution is legal in Portugal.
Is there a lot of Muslims or Portugal is too poor to have them?
