I am considering going to the DPRK with Koryo Tours: http://www.koryogroup.com/tours/dprk-north-korea/group

I know there are other tour groups but they seem to be the most experienced with a large amount of options. They also seem to have a good relationship with the gov. I am worried and heavily considering going to Central Asia instead. Has anybody gone/considered to gone then thought better? Recommended things to see?

I've done research and this company seems to be the best option. I don't know why you would be worried OP, North Korea must the world's most safest place for a tourist because you are under constant surveillance and there's no risk of robbery, terrorism or anything really. Recommend you visit now, seems it won't be long before the US wants another war.
>>
>>1271805
you will be just safe, just behave yourself. But follow the news closely, north korea has become a hot international isssue. I doubt there will be a war, but you never know.

also: !DO NOT! STEAL ANYTHING OR BREAK ANY RULES, unless you want to spend the rest of your short life in a labour camp and/or torture room.

I like to do both, and I'm not worried about people that judge. Experiencing the drinking and night life culture while abroad is all part of the experience. I've always found the people that complain about drunks tend to want a free pass when they decide to get trashed too, not sure why that is.

One week ago I went to the Milano. I booked and paid a room via hotels.com. I went to check-in normally. Everything seemed to be ok, until employee said, that he can't find my reservation. I didn't get a room and he said, that I should contact hotels.com. I did so. I sent mail to customer service and got response few days later. They said that they can't do anything, there isn't a way to get my money back. What should I do? Guy in reception said, that they don't even use hotels.com

Dont care about my poor grammar.

Should have used booking.com you cuck.
>>
>>1281502
This is why you keep a copy of your confirmation with your booking number and the help desk phone number.
I've used hotels.com for over 10 years, several times a year (enough so to have several free nights under their redemption program) and I never had a single issue, except the occasional disgusted face by the reception staff when they see you have booked a rate that's not earning them money.
Was your hotel fully booked otherwise?
I'd say it's more of a hotel scam, where they saw a chance to sell a much higher rate to a walk-in guest and deleted the poor man's booking.

>>1281535
You are the cuck if you always book through one single engine without checking the dates on hotel on various sources before deciding.
Hotels.com is sometimes cheaper, sometimes not but I always check both websites and I end up booking through hotels.

Sup anons, I'm planning a big trip for next year to use the miles on my card before the expire, one place on my mind I particular was Cuba. Have anyone here been, and if so how was it? (inb4 burgers ruin the country)

Long story short, Cuba is amazing and totally worthwhile but also expensive, you will get scammed repeatedly and you better fucking know some Spanish. Bring decent money if you want to eat something thats not garbage.
Go with enough time to see multiple towns.
>>
>>1281425
Cuba is very fun, stay at casa particulars, avoid state run restaurants and learn to dance.. prepare to be hustled, buy rum for new 'friends'. Practice your Spanish on cute brown girls.
The bus system is decent, but if you are adventurous, try to get on the train.

What happens here? Might be moving to Ames from a big coastal city for work and haven't lived in such a rural area since I was a kid. How bad of a decision would I be making? What is life like in Iowa? What is there to do there in the area that doesn't involve barn parties and shooting up?

Lived in Iowa for several years (DSM metro) here's the cliff notes.

>Des Moines metro is the only truly worthwhile place to live in the state. It is one of the nicer midsize and growing cities in the country. Ames is a fine place and is in the metro, depending on who you ask.

>There are neat, unique small towns for day trips like Fairfield and Pella.

>Iowa City is a fun weekend (much moreso than Ames) if you like football and/or drinking with twenty-somethings.

>Kansas City, Omaha and the Twin Cities are all easy day trips/short weekend getaways.
>>
>>1281421
Thanks for the info! I've heard great things about Des Moines and iirc drove through it once but didn't know the degree to which it was true. What's the nature like out there?

Hey /trv/, my girlfriend is absolutely obessed with Bollywood, and wants to travel to India. I plan on trying to make this happen for her next summer. Can I ask for some pros and cons about traveling there? What are the basic dos and do nots when visiting?

Don't leave her alone that's for goddamned sure.

Or else you'll have yourself one raped gf...

Honestly, there's no simple or straightforward way to answer your question.

India is a single country that contains an incredible amount of diversity. Every state has its own culture - often multiple - which changes from one region to the next.

Speaking generally, India can be quite frustrating. The weather in the summer is almost universally unpleasant on account of the heat. Once the monsoon kicks in, strong rains and humidity only add to the misery.

If you want to get away from the warmth, the mountains offer some respite.

Traveling in North India - specifically the NCR (New Delhi, Noida, and Gurgaon), Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar - can be frustrating with a woman. Your girlfriend will probably get cat-called, propositioned, and potentially groped, should you be in a crowded area like a metro car or public bus. Most Western women who travel to India experience some difficulty from men, which may or may not be assuaged by your presence.

There are lots and lots of scams and cons running in Delhi, targeted at foreign and domestic tourists alike. Do not trust anyone who tells you that your bus or train ticket needs to be checked, or who tries sparking a conversation while you're in mid-stride (often along the lines of "Nice jacket, bro" or "First time in India?").

Do strike a healthy balance between being too trusting of strangers and being too closed off. A lot of Indians, while culturally conservative, are curious of foreigners. Many are well-educated and might just want to make conversation or a new friend.

Generally speaking, Mumbai and its surroundings, including Pune, are considerably safer for women than New Delhi. There's also less of a hassle from tourist touts and con artists.

Although I've been to India seven times and lived in Delhi for a year and a half, I've only visited Mumbai once. The impression I got was that locals are much friendlier, in a genuine and not out-to-get-your-money kind of way. Had some nice times drinking chai with police officers and getting drunk with random call center workers along Marine Drive.

All of my female friends living in the city say the same - while it isn't completely safe for women, it's leagues above New Delhi. Less staring, less harassment, and less of a hassle from taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers (in fact, auto-rickshaws aren't allowed to ply the city center's streets. Taxis almost always go by the meter and don't mess around too much with routes).

Getting a SIM card is a pain in the ass in India, as are most other operations and requests which involve some degree of government oversight. Booking train tickets can be a nightmare if you're not willing to pay a commission to receive them.

Don't talk shit about cows, temples, or Narendra Modi.

And please - for fuck's sake - don't start judging the country after spending one week there.

It's a fucked up place, but it has a lot of good if you look beneath the rubbish and pretense alike.

Also, people will treat you more respectfully if you don't dress like a filthy hippie vagrant. Most locals there, regardless of their social class, do not understand why white people who can afford to pay $1k+ in airfare insist on wearing rags into nice restaurants and swanky shopping centers.

Do stay outside of the tourist ghettos. NOBODY bothered me anywhere near my apartment in Delhi, since it wasn't near Paharganj or Connaught Place or any of the other super-touristed places.

Hello, i am a 2nd gen Australian born to chinese parents.
I have decided to go to china to live with my grandparents for an estimates 10 days - 180 days.
The reason i have decided to go is i suspect i have a mental block in Australia due to negative upbringing with toxic extended family and overall environment.
I would like to go to china to pick up new habits before returning to Australia.
So i ask how are the following facilities and services in Guangzhou:
Gym
Basketball coaches (for recreation)
Soccer coaches (for recreation)
Schools/institutions to learn chinese (if it's unfeasible then i will buy some books and bring them to china to learn over there)
Yoga/meditation centres/clubs or whatever you call them

Thank you

>Australian goes to China to learn manners
Oh god, this will be hilarious.
>>
bro, I have some bad news for you.

You're not Chinese. You're Australian.

You were raised in a western democracy style society and that's always going to be what you consider normal, that's your default state. Trying to go back to the homeland and hit a cultural reset button isn't gonna do what you think it will.

The first thing that's going to happen to you when you talk to native Chinese is they're going to ask you, "You're Chinese, why the fuck don't you speak Chinese and act Chinese and do all the Chinese shit we do?"

Because that's what all the Asian countries do to their lost sons. Your experience is not unique.

You were home in Australia. You're an "other" in China. At least when obviously different people like whites or blacks visit, the locals already know why they don't fit. You're just going to be a stealth tourist. They're just gonna assume you're retarded.

If you want to get away from home because you think you have issues from a toxic family, that's fine, but going back to the motherland probably isn't going to do anything for that.

That's the kind of problem you need a mental health professional for, not a plane ticket.

Hey guys. I'll be going to England in a week and the plan is to travel around mostly by train (got a Britrail pass) in the south western part of the country. I'll be starting off in Salisbury and then head down into Devon and Cornwall. I've got approximately 18 days and on the way back to London I want to see Bath, the Cotswolds and Oxford.

What recommendations can you give me apart from that? I'm really into history and also want to see picturesque scenery and the "classic" English countryside. I wouldn't mind a good beach as well.

I liked Exter and Truro. Go and visit Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Nicest gardens I've seen in my life.

Anyone ever research this.
What's it actually like. Is the country itself beautiful or shit?

Then what's the people like?
Those holiday packages you can get...how do they work.

Would be cool to go there before USA fucks it up

A picture of Pyongyang from the Juche tower.

Nature is vey nice. Pyongyang is a city with huge building, although they are not in the best condition.

People on the countryside are really poor - compareable with south east asia or india.

You are only able to communicate with guides.

Tours are easily to organise and done properly by all them people.

Has this ever ACTUALLY happened to anyone here EVER!? What kind of mass hysteria takes place? Do people actually follow directions and get their mask on or does everyone start yelling?

If not then discuss any other kind of public air travel situations inside a plane, engine failure, sitting on the runway for 6 hours. Whatever.

Folkklubs Ala Pagrabs. It's only a couple of streets away from your image.

So good I went back twice. Might look a bit strange above ground but trust me.

Get the garlic rye bread regardless of your meal too. You'll wank yourself into a coma over how delicious it is.

I find your filename funny though, iirc the House of the Blackheads was actually completely rebuilt about a century ago. It's a replica.

Have you ever been to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum? What's it like? I've seen videos of the lobby with the North Tower's antenna, but nothing else because you're not allowed to film. What's there? I won't be going to NYC anytime soon.

When I visited NYC I bought a city pass (go ahead, tell me I'm not a real traveller, but that was a good way to save money while visiting places on our own) and that museum was included.

We lasted like 15 minutes. Too much drama and shit. Don't get me wrong, what happened there was an awful tragedy and I honestly feel bad for the victims and their families, but I don't see the need of exposing a dirty shoe of someone who suffered the attacks.

Also, everyone knows 9/11 was an inside job.

NYC is absolutely amazing though.

I was in New York for a weekend back in April. I visited the museum with my wife. We both are history/education majors and find museums fascinating. If you have an interest in the setup and design of museums than it will be interesting. The museum is designed in a linear style showing the events as they progressed. My favorite area was a room playing audio of interviews that asked people to describe their experience that day or their loved one. That was located below the south tower I believe, below the other one held a large variety of different items that were related to the event. Really just random shit, this section wasn't very interesting. The walk down has a art piece along the wall. There was also a couple of fire trucks damaged in the event. The museum did a good job at being historical and somber. It's worth a visit because of the ethics behind such a museum.
