So I fucked up and put the wrong name on my ticket. I'm thinking of just editing the name on my ticket.

Does Greyhound scan tickets and verify the name from some device, or can I just flash my ticket to the driver?

Dude don't worry about it I'll give you a ride
>>
This is Greyhound we're talking about. Chances are they're scanning to see that the ticket is genuine, rather than the spelling of one's name. Even if they make a big deal about it, you can just cause a scene and make it look like their fuck-up.
>WHAT?! YOU MOTHERFUCKERS SPELLED MY MOTHERFUCKING NAME WRONG!

last time I was on, the bus driver just looked at the ticket and punched it
helped that it was a 11pm pickup in a small town

I'm going to be travelling to Europe soon and I'm not sure what the best way to get a phone llan with data while I'm there. Any recommendations?

Yeah, don't give any specific details about where you're going to be, it's not like it's a whole continent or anything.
>>
>>1285926
in Italy you can buy data (like 12Gb) easily, only buying unlimited data is more difficult
>>
In france you can buy prepaid sim cards at basically any Tabac (tobacco store) that can come with data

Turned 19 last month, I'm very interested in travelling however I have never stayed in hostels/backpacked etc and have a few very general questions regarding some things. I have travelled to/through a lot of places in Europe with family in the past, but we have always stayed in hotels/resorts and I have never seen a hostel. I'm tired of going to tourist resorts and spending majority of the time by the pool/beach and seeing a couple of tourist attractions and would instead like to go off and travel on my own and actually feel the culture of the countries/cities I'm visiting. Would appreciate it if somebody could give me some insight into my questions, and any advice you might have for me.

>How much do hostels cost? Is it safe? Privacy?
I know the prices probably vary from location, however how much does it generally cost in percentage to let's say if I was to book the cheapest hotel in the city compared to a hostel? I've noticed in London the price comparison is that hostels are 1/3rd of the price of a budget hotel room. I'm someone who really values their privacy, so how is the general privacy in hostels? This is honestly the only thing that puts me off a hostel, as I don't think I'd feel confident sleeping in a room with 10 people I don't know, and should I be scared that my property could get stolen from a hostel? Also safety wise, if you're sharing a room with 10 other people who you don't know, how can you sleep well at night not knowing that one of the people might be a psycopath who will suffocate you in your sleep.

>What do you eat when travelling?
Asking this for budget purposes. If you're only ever staying 1-7 days in a single place, what do you usually eat? Do you buy groceries and make something, if so where do you cook and where do you store this food? Do you eat out, and if so roughly how much do you end up spending a day on food overall.

>How much do hostels cost? Privacy?
1/3 of a budget hotel might be the price in expensive travel destinations, maybe 2/3 in cheap destinations
>Is it safe?
From my experience, it is
>Privacy?
kek

>What do you eat when travelling?
Depending on the country, I'm either eating out or cooking my own stuff. In cheap countries I'd suggest a hostel that's including breakfast, so you'll only have to pay 1-2 cheap meals - go eat where the locals eat. In expensive countries: toast and porridge for breakfast, rice and pasta for dinner.

>What are the shower/wash conditions usually like in most hostels?
This really depends on the hostel. You should check ratings before going, as some hostels in first world countries look like a third world shithole
and vice versa.

>from Lithuania originally
Just met two Lithuanian girls, you guys seem to be really nice folks

I think ive seen somewhere private rooms in hostels being advertised, but i couldnt check the price. Is this a possibility and how much more is it usually?

Are there any other cheap accommodation options apart from hostels? I guess renting a room off airbnb might be a good option too if you can get a good deal, but there wont be as many people to socialize with as in hostels, which is probably key if ur travelling alone im guessin

What city did u meet them if u dont mind me asking

Also roughly planning maybe 2 or 3 small trips this year (3-4 days each) to somewhere in europe where i can find cheap flights, to see how i feel about travelling solo, and want to do a month long trip next year somewhere outside europe. Any suggestions?

I'd like to do some restful and happy fun day trips around Southern Ontario.

Are there any towns, restaurants, beaches, parks, galleries you'd recommend? Also which town has the most cutes?

(btwI live in toronto proper, and have a week to do anything I'd like (staycation). I already do anything worthwhile in Toronto during the rest of the year)

Will be in Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen next week on a pretty tight budget. As those cities are quite expensive, was wondering whether you have any tips on what and where to eat and what should I definitely bring home from those countries.

Received an advice recently to buy stuff like chocolate, candies, etc. only in big supermarkets. And to definitely try Norwegian chocolate and waffles, as well as Swedish berry jams and Danish cookies/cakes.

The Kebab / Falafel places are cheap. 65kr for pic related (1 plate of the food, not the girls). Check out Jerusalem Kebab at Sodermalm, plus the competitors.
>>
When I was in Copenhagen I had Kebab a lot. 55-60 DKK for a giant Kebab > 40 DKK for a Polse because the Kebab is about 250% larger

I am thinking about looking for work on a cruise ship.

Any experiences? Would that make me a real traveller or a wage slave?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1285697

I usually make friends with one or two staff members on every cruise I've been on, and most of those guys are just doing what they're doing to send money back home. The contracts require them to work away from home for extreme periods of time. Though I never heard this specific complaint I still imagine that being stuck on ship for long periods of time is ungodly boring even if you do get some time off.

Basically, you're a wage slave in exotic locales that you have a couple of hours to enjoy. The biggest hurdle is how much time you're willing to commit and sign on for, but if you can accept that and have nothing better going for you at the moment, it might be a worthwhile experience.
>>
>>1285697
Like the other guy said, a wage slave with a chance to go ashore in exotic locations once in a while. Depending on your job and status, you may have a private cabin or you might share a tiny room with 4 other people. Your food and accommodation are paid for so you can save some money. Wages on an American flagged ship may be better. There is one, the pride of america in Hawaii. The rest are foreign flagged and are not required to pay American wages. Again, your skills will determine your wages and benefits
>>
You need a skill that they need onboard or else good look getting hired. I knew a pastry chef. Its not as great as it sounds, you get fired on the spot if you're caught fucking a guest. Some dont even allow you to get off the ship.

So /trv/, turns out I'll be spending my holiday in this god forsaken junkhole in a couple of days. Had other plans but some of my friends canceled so I'm doomed to go here. I'm planning on taking some trips visiting local islands and stuff, basically to move around as much as possible, so is there anything worth seeing in local area, what can you recommend? I'm pretty much open to everything.
I'm 27, single, and generally love exploring more than empty bottles. Thanks.

We've got 4 days, we want to spend half relaxing and half exploring, preferably on a medium budget.

Which is better? I hear CR for the natural beauty but PR for the convenience, drivability and relaxation.

Costa Rica is fucking beautiful. I'd avoid tourist heavy areas like Guanacaste (I've never been approached by so many drug dealers). I stayed in a little town in Alajuela Province for a month and really enjoyed it. If I had Costa Rica to do again, I'd stay somewhere in the mountains out of the worst of the heat, maybe San Pedro de Poás.
Costa Rican food is... how do I put this? They grow some of the best produce in the world. It's so good just coming out of the ground that none of them learn how to cook worth a damn. Meals were really simple, usually pieces of fruit, some bread, and the ever present Gallo Pinto. But there are some Costa Rican consumables I really enjoyed. Costa Rica made me realize what real coffee was. The Caribbean influence they have makes for a good variety of excellent rums too. I don't smoke, but I hear the cigars are very good as well. I came home with seven kilos of coffee; were I thinking, I would've stocked up on rum and cigars too.
