Go vs Chess, which takes more strategy, skill, etc.
I honestly couldn't tell you which requires more skill since I'm an amateur at both.
I personally enjoy chess more though.
>>46049730
I played Go only once or twice, i play chess regularly. Chess speaks more to me personaly. I think how hard the game is really depends on who you are playing, from what i remember Go has simpler rules but more combinations, while chess has more complicated rules but less combinations
>>46049730
Go is non-local, thus it is a superior game.
For example, I don't have a Go club in my town. The closest is at least 30 km removed.
How would you go about making an alien race with a different bio-chemistry (Such as using Silicon instead of Carbon) or environment (For example, high gravity).
>>46049702
I'd make Nitrogen based aliens that die upon contact with Selenium.
There is a somewhat popular theory of sulfur based life existing due to its unique bonding properties, its been while since I read about but basically instead of a water based ecosystem it would either be methane or ammonia. Remember the reason why carbon is so great is its ability to share electrons and nitrogen is not quite as good.
Carbon is best.
Hey,
I hope Emrakul will not be in SoI. This would be bullshit. But some spoiled cards make me think i'm wrong.
What do you think, /tg/ ?

Tentacles*
The GM picks a player to help with stuff (combat, story, sidequests, managing/playing NPCs) did this ever work in one of your games, ended badly or just left you mildly annoyed?
Is this something only new GMs do? because I personally think that's the case, but I would like to hear other people's experiences
>>46046706
I'm just terrible at numbers simply don't want to even try it so usually I ask our engieneer player to make the math and rule consulting.
Bonus: I'm asian.
>>46046846
well that's a valid excuse, but I haven't played very crunchy games, hardest one must have been special, and even then my GM had some spreadsheets in excel ready to calculate the damage quickly.
>>46046706
my groups don't usually have one but when I GM, inevitably, there's always a player who knows the rules better than i do (see: legitimate short-term memory loss). so i always wind up planning and writing things down while that player corrects me on like 50% of everything i say with citations on how the rules work.
it'd be nice if they actually knew i was medically admitted and weren't just a rules-gouging asshole about it all the time just because my notes aren't thorough enough :')
ALL my freinds are so boring and are interested in video games(as am i) But when i mention Grabbing a couple crates of beer,(Maybe some weed) chill and start a game up of Dungions and Dragons, or Magic the gathering they always say no, yet we do the same thing with video games, table games are more interesting amd fun as there 100% origonal and awesome but people will play basicly the same cod game just woth better graphics smaller maps and what not(no cod hate its fum but in small doses)
TLDR: No one to play table games with, has anyone else had this issue if so how did you get around it.
>>46045314
That sucks. I have friends IRL and online I play different games with.
>>46045314
Maybe if you could use punctuation, spell correctly, and think about a social gathering that doesn't involve booze or weed as a crutch, then you might have a group to play with.
>>46046147
I have freinds online just none to play like D&D or other related games with it is really shitty
Have you ever done a campaign that featured no fighting, and was mostly focused on trading, intrigue and diplomacy?
>>46045273
Yes, and my party cried that we weren't playing D&D.
My current D&D 5e game is mostly inter-party interactions. It's nice, because it slows down the power progression pace and lets a story be built naturally by the players instead of just me.
No fighting or no PLANNED fighting?
Because while it's possible to do the second, the first is damn near impossible with 98% of groups; they will inevitably pick a fight with SOMEONE.
Reading through some of the work done on WRFP 3rd edition, I'm shocked at how bad the modules are, not as adventures, some are just fine, but how difficult they are as a GM to use: pages and pages of explanation of things that have very little bearing on anything, some of which could have been presented in a couple sentences. Is this due to page count requirements for payment?
>>46043778
>Is this due to page count requirements for payment?
Well, duh, yeah. Writers get paid by the word. Layout designers by the spread. Artists by the illustration. And speaking of efficiency, it's more efficient/cheaper to print one giant book than 4 small ones, which is why so many RPG companies publish these giant 300-400-page monstrosities.
This is still a business that needs to make a profit, after all, not some mathematical model that should be optimized for fastest results.
>>46043909
But if you are putting out a product that is efficient and works well for the user (a GM using it), and you need less art, far, far far less layout, you are paying less to build your saleable product. If the product sells, which in WFRP3's case, it didn't. The early B/X modules were not like this, modern OSR stuff is not like this, most Numenera stuff is not like this (adventures that is). What I'm thinking is that there must have been some sort of strange audience for these types of 'read a short story' modules instead of 'this is a tool to run a game'
>>46044241
>What I'm thinking is that there must have been some sort of strange audience for these types of 'read a short story' modules instead of 'this is a tool to run a game'
There definitely is. They may even make up the greater part of RPG sales. I mean I know I enjoy flicking through books for games I've yet to get around to playing.
And I can think of one high profile example of designers going for usability rather than readability in their presentation - the shift from 3rd to 4th edition Dungeons and Dragons. From the perspective of actually trying to run the game, 4e monster and power statblocks were a godsend. From the perspective of someone idly flicking through a rulebooke they made everything look samey and unappealing. It was at least a contributing factor to the backlash the game received, so now it's gone forever.
Was this the best codex GW made since the 3.5 CSM dex?
>>46043764
Define "good"
It was the best book ever since fun died in the middle of 4th.
Guard 3rd, Tau 4th, Marines 4th and Tyranids 4th were all boatlosds of fun.
>>46043764
No.
That would be 5e Necrons.
I am a new player to 40k and I have chosen Skitarii/Cult Mechanicus to be the first army I build. Am I making a terrible mistake?
Also general Admech art thread..
So far I have skimmed through the fluff and read the rules set thing at the back of the codex.
It seems like with a few vanguard squads with arquebuses and some rust stalkers I could do some serious damage to an ork/imperial guard player. But I haven't put this theory to the test yet...
Maybe this thread is kind of a waste of space... Just hoping to get some advice from anyone who has some experience playing/fighting admech. Maybe I shouldn't have started out with "I am a new player to 40k"
I am in the exact same situation as you. The things that I have learned:
their units are vulnerable to AP4, which is rough, so you need to use cover.
you have excellent first turn shooting because you can give your guys +3bs
you are slow, so you might have trouble with bikes/wave serpents/other stuff that runs around you grabbing objectives
you lack flamers, which are usually the best source of anti-cover save and good for free hits on charging units (read: you can be vulnerable to getting charged)
you don't have any fliers to fighter other people's fliers, so make sure to take enough skyfire/guys who skyfire at bs2 rather than snap shooting.
this is basically all that I know so far, and am looking to figure out what else to do for army building
What do giants call themselves?
Probably not "giant", obviously.
>>46042639
It depends on the setting you daft cunt.
In some it might be Ou'agunguns. In others it might be The Stone Folk. In another it might be the Titans. Or whatever. It could be any old shit. They might even call themselves the Tiny Ones, because in the distant past there was an even larger race of huge people.

“So yeah Cennen, I was just going to kill him since he’s one hell of a loose end but then I remembered that you’re fond of him.”
You stare down at Master Yolan. The old man has certainly seen better days. You don’t know how Hiss captured him or what she’s done to him but he’s bruised and bleeding and he can’t stand up right. He stares at you.
“Cennen? You know this woman?”
Hiss laughs.
“Of course he does. I’m the snake he told you about. Maybe you should have heeded his advice a little more.”
You can’t help but notice the way Yolan cringes away from her the moment she moves.
“What did you do to him Hiss?”
She shrugs.
“He wasn’t being very compliant and I felt like using my hands. Don’t worry, he’s mostly unbroken. Now what do you think we should do with him?”
“Can’t you just eat his memories?”
Hiss shakes her head.
“No. I mean, I CAN but it wouldn’t solve the problem. He’s been doing a lot of theoretical work with that snake alchemy you gave him, lots of little thoughts about that everywhere in his soul. If I want to bite all of that out I’m going to have to rip out a lot...well, him. He could end up like the old Mayor. Now, I don’t particularly care about that but I figured you might not want that.”
“Yeah, no kidding. Couldn’t you just have asked him not to tell? Or pay him off?”
“It’s a bit late for that, I’d say. And besides, I’m not sure if you understand just how sensitive this matter is. Snake alchemy cannot be allowed to fall into human hands. You know how strong it is! We’d be best suited by either removing his mind or pruning his soul into a more trustworthy servant. He can’t be trusted with information of this magnitude otherwise.”

Storytime, /tg/.
>start a new campaign
>play a halfling druid
>arrive in port town, meet party, etc.
>quickly find local item shop
>run by another halfling, Todd
>Todd has a niece called Tammy
>both of them have bright red hair
>Todd is incessantly cheerful
>Tammy retrieves items for customers and is generally adorable
>party gets sent to investigate spooky goings-on elsewhere
>as we go to leave, my character feels a tug on the back of his shirt
>it's Tammy
>she's holding out three gold coins
>"Please, mister, could you check on my parents? They're on your way."
>"Our farm has a green-tiled roof. I painted some of them myself!"
>let her keep the gold and tell her i'll check on them
>pass several farms on the way to spook location
>wave at farmers
>they wave back
>none of them have green rooves
>eventually it starts getting dark
>decide to find a place to stay
>party want to try and stay with some farmers
>sure.jpg
>come up to a farm house
>it has a green tiled roof
>no light coming from inside
>approach farm house
>there's a corpse outside
>a male halfling with bright red hair
>fuck.png
>explore further
>find another corpse inside the farm house
>a female halfling with bright red hair
>FUCK.gif
>find a small dolly clutched in the woman's hand
>it has red thread for hair
>carefully take dolly and pocket it
>eventually return to port town
>go to the item shop and talk to Todd
>when he's told what happened, his perpetual smile disappears
>says he'll tell Tammy
>give him the doll to return to her
>while walking away from the shop, hear a high-pitched wail from inside
>some time later, we're leaving town for the high seas
>go around saying our farewells
>Todd is manning his shop, tells us seeing us might upset Tammy
>fair enough
>as we're setting out to sea, Tammy comes rushing to the docks
>waves us off and calls out to me
>"Thanks for the cool dolly, mister!"
