If the Codex Astartes is the ultimate strategy guide, why hasn't Chaos stolen it?

They have? Abaddon has studied the Codex very, very thoroughly, and most Renegade Chapters have at least one copy of it because they were once Loyalist Astartes who therefore trained under it, if not fully embraced its teachings.

40K newfag here, what is this Lost Patrol stuff?
>>
>>46056270
Straight out of 1d4chan:
Lost Patrol is a 2-player board game designed by Jake Thornton and produced by Games Workshop way back in the day when they still did other things than cranking out new editions and codices for Warhammer 40,000.

One player takes control of a group of Space Marine Scouts (the eponymous lost patrol) trapped on a jungle Death World. His goal is to find the Marines' dropship and get the fuck off that hellhole. The second player controls the local fauna. His goal is to cackle maniacally while the Scouts drop like flies.
The game is played on a modular map consisting of hex tiles that is continually expanded as the Scouts move along. It is so ridiculously unbalanced that even finding the dropship is considered a major victory for the Marines. According to Thornton himself, this is intentional and part of the fun. The only way make Lost Patrol "fair" is to take turns at playing the marines and see who gets eaten faster.

Original copies of Lost Patrol are reasonably easy to find, but if for some reason you can't be bothered with tracking one down, you can easily simulate the experience of playing the Scout side by pulling a burlap sack over your head and having a buddy lock you into a small room filled with feral cats.

While the game is no longer produced or maintained by GW, Jake Thornton has recently published a FAQ as well as a couple of new rules on his blog.

What was the reason of the decline of Warhammer Fantasy? Even long before Age of Sigmar was clear that things were not going well.

Every fantasy player who had an army didn't need any more. So gw decided to change the system to favor larger armies to get the existing player base to need to buy more.

Fast forward and combined with alternative games on the market and a game that isn't easy for new players to get into ( due to needing to make such a large investment to get started) the game began to decline rapidly.

The switch to bigger armies and the start of the decline happened around 6th edition, I think.

There's very little manuever in Fantasy. Place units, hope your opponent doesn't place his better. Smash them together. 4x4 and 4x6 just aren't big enough.

A friend plays Bretonians. The knights would trot forward, charge one and that was it. They couldn't change direction fast enough to get a second charge in and his opponents couldn't turn around to counter attack.

So I ordered some villa zheng proxies and was wondering if these duals were passable, since obviously I have no duals of my own to compare. The zendikar/onslaught fetches and wastelands I got were surprisingly good, definitely difficult to notice any differences when double-sleeved.

I tried to rough these up a bit but didn't do a great job. I would take these to anything big, just my store's legacy night. I've played with them in some commander games and nobody noticed (or cared, I guess). Anybody have experience using these fakes? Ideas on how to make them look more worn?

Here is a close of one, one thing I did notice was the centering was off on a few. Is this common among actual duals, or will it be an obvious tell?
>>
>>46055530
I spent about $30 for two of each blue dual, a couple wastelands, and a few fetches. The shipping was pretty fast for me too, but I would research which of his fakes are passable. I just couldn't find anything for the duals.

Tell me about fighting styles in your setting, /tg/. Are there any notable fighting styles? What are they known for? Are they associated with certain races or groups?
What about fairly-known fighters? What are they known for?

Due to their stronger lower part of the body, my elves like to kick, smash their knees into heads or jump at their target to ram whatever weapon they are holding into it.
>>
Hammerdances are a very short string of attacks with a polehammer/lucerne that start a cut, a stab, a quick smite with the hammer and then the fighter disengages with a swing of the pick. Each hit is more severe than the last.
They are used by the castle guards of the desert cities. The royalguard of this city is extreme. They use massive weapons made of the very lightweight mithril. While still remarkably heavy for a weapon, the size of them enable (and disable) them to do certain things. The Great Mallet of Azakel cannot be parried and if it's not blocked it simply makes them stumble to the ground. The Great Longsword of Sanada can be used as a pole vault, and from this great height hecan swing the weapon back around and unleash something of a jumping strike at unreal speeds. The Great Scimitar is simply a scimitar the size of a zweihander, and he charges into hordes, holding the blunt edge to himself and begins to twist, dealing great cuts to many people with minimal arm movement. The Queensguard are a force of thoroughbred humans with a disgusting amount of reverence for the queen to the point of asceticism, so all of their greatest attacks involve selfharm, the most fantastic of which literally tearing the swordman to ribbons.
>>
In my setting the main style is sword and board traditional fighting, associated with the English. There are a lot of minor styles present, like a gladiator style tripper build associated with the remnants of rome, berzerker style associated with norse invaders, and a simple but effective unarmed grappler style associated with jews. There's also a weebshit berzerker+ style called Kriegerfetchen invented by a PC.

>what was game workshop thinking?

>space marines releases boost sales
>fantasy lacks space marines
>lets put space marines in fantasy

>bigger, more magical beasts and guys boost sales
>fantasy setting has lower magical elements
>lets make everything a magical realm

>more élite and less numerous forces are preferred over armies with too much of a model count which scare beginners
>WHFB pushes to buy numerous small and at times outdated sculpts to build an army
>lets scrap the army composition rules

>models with poor rules sell less than models with good rules
>there's imbalance in the the point costs
>lets scrap the point costs

>an advancing timeline narrated via supplements boosts sales
>the timeline of fantasy is stagnant before the apocalypse
>let the apocalypse happen

>an advancing timeline will see inevitably numerous deaths and a vast, unexplored world to be kept interesting
>the warhammer world has been defined and its characters can have mortal limitations of time
>lets make everything new, undefined, vague, limitless and respawning if needed

>old armies and models aren't updated and don't fit the overhauled setting
>the new designers don't know what to do with the old armies since you fired or don't make work the talented creatives
>lets scrap them, we can repurpose their concepts for new things later

>it will cost money and we don't know if it will pay out with the old fan base pissed
>lets run it on a lowered budget for fluff, art, rules and models; quantity over quality will eventually gain the attention of a new more profitable fan base: The even younger

>what about slaanesh then?
>make it mentioned but missing with hints to a potential focus for a campaign to keep the fan interested, then use the campaign to kill it, replace with an elf god of shadows and repurpose or scrap the miniatures accordingly

>also make new copyrightable names

>I don't care how stupid or silly

Rolled 12 (1d20)

The amount of experience necessary to actually do that would be insane. You'd be some kind of god, and so overpowered that you'd HAVE to be referenced in the opening pitch to the campaign, because you'd be the dominant force in the world.

Instead you're just a shitty worm sat in a cave, so I'm going to roll to doubt your story.

After seeing the chaos trailer for total warhammer (which is shaping up or be the coolest game of the year), dragon ogres have become my favorite race in warhammer.

I'll be writing a bit about them in my spare time today

>what is a dragon ogre

The dragon ogres are (possibly) the oldest race in the warhammer fantasy world. They are a race of half humanoid half dragon creatures, almost centaur like in their appearance. They inhabit the mountains of they chaos wastes, the most uninhabitable place in the warhammer world.

>biology
As mentioned before, dragon ogres have a horned humanoid head, with a muscular upper body, on top of a four legged dragon body. Their size can vary greatly, from the size of an ogre to the size of a huge mountain, based upon their age. Dragon ogres are in a constant stage of growth all their lives, and due to their longevity, this means they can reach incredible proportions. Although it is unknown what they eat, they appear to be awakened by lightning storms and appear to be rejuvenated by it. They are all but impervious to lighting like magic or weapons. Dragon ogres are said to have the strength of a troll, and the speed of a horse, and can use weapons and armor.

I recently backed the big Sentinels of the Multiverse Kickstarter. I got the vidya recently and enjoyed it a lot, and the chance to get the complete physical game in a nice display box seemed cool.

I also went for Fabulous Beasts, a cute little hybrid physical/digital dexterity game, where balancing these statues on a base was reflected in an app by balancing an ecosystem. It's a cute idea.

Nothing going on at the moment, but I'm looking forward to the This War of Mine boardgame and the Unknown Armies 3e Kickstarter.

There is a noticeable, starking difference between running a census and actually spending the better part of a day meeting people.

Aside from the odd newcomer (and an actual newborn) the amount of people in New Royo hasn't changed, but in all honesty you couldn't claim to remember everyone in the first place. Sure, most faces were familiar, but you've also spent less time in town than Bryld did.

In addition to that, you have plenty of things that set you apart from the rest and it's not just about your appearance. For one, you find out that Astreya doesn't show her face around town much, and being a high-caliber magic user that struts around with a demon on a (figurative) leash it's easier to spread strange rumours about her than it is to get to know her better.

Not that there was any overt ill intent in all the talk about her, just as there wasn't about you. You even found out that some people assumed you were spending plenty of time with Astreya or out of town not just to explore but also because of some sort of strange implicit agreement between you and Agnes. They don't know of your genital situation, of course, which makes it easy to guess why they were thinking you were both very deeply into women and agreed to not hunt in the same grounds for the sake of peace. Like lions.

Even though their guess was off you suppose you do have a bit of competition in this regard. Then again, you compete with both sexes for both sexes so you're really just an outlier in everything sex-related.

Most importantly, everyone is glad to have had a chance to talk to you. They know you were helping making cheese this morning, proof that this town really is small given how fast news and rumours spread.

That and the childhood friends you brought here from Reboldeaux had only good things to say about you.

>Inquire about your friends.
>Inquire about Tahenohan.
>Inquire about Bryld.
>Inquire further about yourself.

It's medium crunch, similar to CP2020 in that way and less crunchy than Shadowrun.

The setting is very detailed, technology is updated to the modern world (so superior to CP2020) and there's tonnes of info on various countries and cities.

One difference is that in IZ there are clone, android and furry "races", though they're not common, but it leans a bit more in the transhumanist direction.

Hacking is still too complex and jargon-laden, so not really an improvement, and it has both virtual reality "cybercombat" and augmented reality objects hacking.

No magic in IZ, so for cyberpunk purists it's clearly better than Shadowrun.

So /tg/ lets take a moment to talk about Stellaris, paradoxs new game. Theres a new trailer for the game and i personally I think it hits pretty close to home.

Do you think they've portrayed humanity in the right way? As budding young civilisation thats too eager to explore but rather insignificant. I personally like that. I was wondering if there were other stuff that portrayed humanity like this.
