Alrighty lads.

I have been reading up on this somewhat fun novel and I think it is an awesome setting. Magic, level-ups, waifus etc. It checks all of my requirements of an interesting setting.

So I come to you in my hour of need. How can you make characters in this universe? How would you deal with the rank-ups? And if you were to include that cool devour ability, how would you allow it to work?

Other than that.. Re:Monster thread/setting/rules thread?

I remember when that picture was mildly amusing, and not just a banner for the worst kind of faggots to wave. It's kind of gross when people on /tg/ try to emulate people on /r9k/.

I almost feel sorry for the picture, because there's nothing wrong with it, only that it was chosen by a group of fags as their choice for mindless spamming.

Exalted 3E, though a large part of it is a deep love of the setting. I enjoy the mechanics, but teaching them to others is an absolute nightmare.
>>
I'm not a weeaboo, but I absolutely love samurai stories, so my answer is Legend of the Five Rings. You just have to avoid the people who take it autist level of serious and it's great.
The mechanics are solid but simple, the lore is exceptionally plentiful, the character possibilities are giant, and all the plots the gm can have are limited only by his cunning.

Some kind of strength-focused monk, but only in a system where monks aren't garbage. Dude's got some strong abilities:
>can heal allies with Mantra
>huge single-target damage with Pummel, Suplex, and Bum Rush / Phantom Rush (depends on the translation)
>can use fire and wind element area attacks
>single-target holy element attack
>can self-sacrifice to heal all allies
>strength score through the goddamn roof

ITT: Post the internal struggles you've had as a player in any game. Not the ones you've had in your groups or in character ones, but the ones you battle in your own head out of character. Spoilers optional.

Alternatively, toss in your two cents on someone's internal struggle.

I'll go first.

I'm currently playing a game that I have many issues with the themes within the setting, primarily due to my beliefs and due to my experiences in life. This is an inability to comprehend and adapt to certain extremely heavy features of the setting, not an issue with it as a whole. This shows not only in the characters I create, but also how I approach problem solving within the game. I enjoy playing the game, and it does allow me to exercise mental muscles I rarely have a chance to with most other systems and settings though. I had been having occasional thoughts regarding this internal conflict since the beginning of the new year, and recently a member of the group mentioned it though I doubt they realized just how much thought I'd already put into it. While I can readily enjoy settings with similar themes in other circumstances, I find it hard to conform to the expectations of the setting. In an Order of the Stick comparison... I am constantly making the Belkar of the party. Even my conservative attempts turn out that way somehow. This has put me in a difficult position; while I want to continue playing, I don't know whether I should. From what I can tell my presence in the group is welcomed and enjoyed in and out of character, and I enjoy both the game and the group most of the time, but that hasn't helped to relieve these doubts.

I often worry in roleplaying games, that I stay "in-character" too much. By this, I mean I enjoy playing flawed characters, who can and will make choices that anyone with out-of-game-knowledge (or even the cool and balanced perspective of an outside view) can clearly see are bad choices... but I do it anyway, because it feels "right" for the character in these situations.

Now... this would be fine if I were a writing a book or something, but in the confines of a group-based roleplaying game, I'm constantly fearing that having my characters make these bad choices is going to piss off the rest of the group, no matter how in-character it is. Just last session I got chewed out by the one of the players in the party because my character, a support-mage, got grappled by a werewolf-thing and started getting mauled. Now, I had several spells I could have used to escape this situation, but in-character it felt like the right thing to do was panic and start whaling on the thing with my staff. With my low strength, this was pretty much a complete waste of my turn, and put my character in considerable danger... but I did it because it FELT RIGHT. Like, that's a fucking scary situation (especially when you're not used to physical combat), you don't sit there and calmly cast a spell while something has you off the ground and is mauling you. You panic and start flailing with whatever you can grab.

Unfortunately one of the players disagreed and the others just sorta seemed to give silent consent that I was actively hurting the group by doing this.
>>
>>46028294
I can definitely identify with that. There is a fine line between 'my-guy-isms' and staying in character. A way to help that is to try to reduce (not eliminate) the amount of stupid things the character does. Early in the campaign it can make for some entertaining moments and good laughs, but the farther you go in your adventuring career the less likely such things should happen. To use your werewolf mauling incident as an example, it might be a good idea to have a better reaction if something like that happens again, or perhaps your character might realize this is an issue and could ask the party to help him get used to such things once everything has calmed down. Being in character and being stupid works well, but it just becomes a damper on the whole game if there is no growth out of it. If you're not sure how your character could grow out of one of their bad decisions, perhaps talk to the rest of the group about it afterward in a pre- or post-session chat sometime. Then at the very least your table will understand you're not just falling to 'my-guy-itus' but you're just playing your character as well as you can.

Just make sure if your character ever goes full retard and you go along for the ride that you have a really good reason to do so, and preferably do it in a really big way so we can all enjoy the storytime later.

Can you get into details? I don't really have the frame of reference of that Order of the Stick character.

What does /tg/ think of Trudvang? Has anyone here played it? And Trudvang General thread, cause that would be cool.

For those who don't know, Trudvang is a Swedish RPG campaign setting. It recently got a translation, but it's a weird form. You basically buy an app version of the core books for your computer, with built in chat and character builders. Find it here: https://online.riotminds.com/trudvang_chronicles_game

The world is basically a super Norse world with an awesome art style and a rich lore.

Bright white flares descend gently towards the churning smoke and raging fires that spread across the black surface of Sunda Strait. Somewhere in that carnage are your assets - your comrades in arms, your girls and your best friend - and you can't be sure where they are.

“Naresuan, sitrep?”

“Heavy flooding, one turbine offline. Primary air and surface search radars are out of action, but we've got a fire-control radar left and a few ESSM's in the cells yet,” comes the immediate reply in accented English - no translator go-between. “Captain was wounded - I'm the XO.”
“Right. Set a northern coast and get the hell out of there at best speed - hug the coastline, the shore defenses should be able to cover you.” You switch channels without waiting for confirmation. “Steadfast, how copy?”

“Heavy damage - one shaft's seized, but we flooded the shaft galleries fighting the avgas fire and power was knocked out to those pumps,” comes the reply after a moment for translation. “Primary radar's online but our VLS is empty. Still taking on water forward but the pumps are keeping up.” You flick your eyes up to the Global Hawk feed - there's two of them now, pooling cameras - and see the fire is still burning on Steadfast's rear deck.

“What about the fire?”

“It's not threatening anything important,” comes the reply.

“Can you make headway? Can you beach her?” The bottom is shallow in the Strait and fairly gradual - if Steadfast can reach the sand, she can be repaired and refloated with little trouble at a later date.

“Admiral, our main gun is still working,” comes the objection. “And we are Naresuan's eyes right now.”

You glance at the tactical plot - and see Naresuan is flagrantly disobeying orders; turning eastward to link up with Sendai and Jintsuu, who've just come into visual range of the fray. You cede to the inevitable - they're determined to fight their ships to the last, at least while there's friendlies on the field. You switch frequencies. “Hate, you hear me?”

“HELLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Hate damn near yodels into his radio, his voice quavering like he's riding a school bus hitting bumps. “HOLY SHIT SKIPPER DID YOU SEE-”

“I did,” you confirm as the ops personnel kindly redirect a camera to find Hate's PT squadron; the full-sized boats weaving and winding as their triple aero engines scream through the mist and smoke, circling Naka and Harder like wary dogs. The abyssal cruisers are lost somewhere beneath a thick smokescreen they've been laying for long minutes now - you suspect they deployed smoke floats at some point. It's fairly opaque even to infa-red; but it seems what's left of them have decided to turtle.

The Indonesian F-16 pilots are still making their runs, their FACs screaming in almost suicidally low as pom-pom's probe for them amidst the nasty black puffs of flak bursts. They're firing phosphorus rockets, nailing their targets directly from almost point-blank range before screaming overhead and climbing away on full afterburner, the shock-diamonds in their exhaust vivid against the dark sky. The strike craft, their Kedge's spent, are circling overhead.

The tactical plot updates - new little blue circles.

“Who's that?” you demand.

“Malaysian Hawks,” Ops replies. “They're slinging iron bombs.”

That is interesting. Game is not very popular so It's hard to find decent opinions. RPG.net gave it two 9/10 but these retards can't be trusted. It has 8 votes on RPG geek, and 7 on Amazon. I don't really know any other places where I could find good RPG-related opinions.
>>
It's basically WFRP but D&D. The setting is generally worse, a bit heavier on the puerile humor. It has some cool playable races like the clockwork dudes.

I like how you can hang any combination of classes on the basic advancement scheme and they'll all give you some neat abilities. I don't like how it's heavily biased towards magic if you want a decent selection of neat abilities, and I REALLY don't like how some extremely basic build-defining abilities are gated behind Expert and Master Paths, so you need to be level 6 or 7 (out of 10) to get your basic shield bash or improved aim ability.

I would rate it ahead of WFRP 2nd edition, on a par with WFRP 1 and behind WFRP 3, which will probably cause anyone who would be interested in it to disregard my opinion.

Things haven't gone entirely as planned. You can just bet that the slaad had something to do with this.

At the other end of the chamber is a mound of broken rock with the artefact on it. You know because you can feel that, even from this distance, a good two hundred feet away. Wow that stings, get much closer and you'll be getting burned.

And around the pile of rock are lots of earth elementals.

Aboswe is in her natural form, hovering off the ground with black and green magical energies dancing around her.

“You're all going to die down here!” she screams at the earth elementals

You're facing twenty earth elementals that are about 20ft tall; five that are smaller but are shinier and have various protective spells active upon them; and one earth elemental made of ruby...oh great a gem elemental: they usually have a lot of raw magical energy, and this one is glowing really bright!

You need to get the artefact and run out of range of the ward against teleportation.

So, I have a very odd problem with one of my players. In short, he actively refuses to fight during encounters and instead will attempt to convince the enemy to join his side. He only fights unless there is literally no other option availabe. Not only does it drag encounters to a snail's pace, but when he succeeds, it occasionally causes me to throw out entire elaborate bosses and setpeices that I've took days to plan out. Now I would be extremely pissed if it weren't for the fact he roleplays all of this out excellently. In fact it's some of the best role-playing I've ever seen. Everyone else in the party seems either down with it or doesn't really care, so it's only a disappointment for me. I honestly am not sure what to do.

You've got an island. You never wanted an island.

This is a situation that deserves context. Some time ago, you were asked to cooperate with the Emperor – and a former Wanderer, a man you once called a colleague – in settling a dispute on the island of Dumas. Needless to say, this was no mere attempt at a rebellion. Divine powers were involved, and you took charge of the situation. Having resolved the incident and settled the local population, you handed the matter back to the Emperor and went about your business.

The matter, you thought, was over. Then, requesting a private meeting with you, the Emperor of Tenngaru himself handed ownership of the island – the entire island – over to you, without ever asking your permission. Apparently, that's an entirely legal thing that he can do.

“Something for your retirement” he called it – the obnoxious child.

“Ra, I'll leave the details in your capable hands,” Sho Tatsuhiro says lightly as he struts back to his palanquin, already growing bored with this subject. As his masked servants lower the platform, any hope of guessing their expressions or their true thoughts defeated by those blank masks, the Emperor hops onto his seat and raps one heel against the floor. Rising, the mute servants turn and bear him silently away.

“I really must apologise,” Ra says eventually, when you can be sure that the Emperor has departed completely, “I thought he would have a medal for you, a ceremonial sword at the most. Not... this.”

You had no idea what to expect, you tell him, and you still didn't expect this. Does this mean you're a member of the nobility now?

“Technically, yes... not that that means much these days,” Ra forces an apologetic smile, “The Emperor has more or less absolute control over the laws of the land – as you might be starting to realise – so you won't be required to vote on matters or make your voice heard at court. Your opinion might hold a little more weight than it used to, but I wouldn't expect too much. On the bright side, this doesn't really give the Emperor any extra leverage over you – at worst, he can strip you of your lands.”

Maybe, you reply, that wouldn't be so bad. What are you supposed to do with an island, anyway?

“If you wished to sign stewardship over to someone else – your temple, say – I can arrange the appropriate documents. Or, if you wish to keep hold of it for now, I can have a boat chartered to take you there – in case you want to look things over,” Ra shakes his head, tiredness slipping through his usual composure, “Of course, there's no need to decide immediately.”
