Welcome to the Accidental Magical Girl thread!

Various worlds and multiverses have became connected together via the mysterious Overcity, a sprawling landscape inhabited by monsters and magical beings. Girls and boys endowed with their new supernatural powers can work together solving conflicts that arise!

>This is NOT a greentext adventure style CYOA with one GM and thread posting to dictate the adventure, but rather a hub thread for multiple storycrafters to use.
A majority of activity (including campaigns) instead happens in the IRC, which is open for newbies to join.
Characters can be rolled with either the CYOA's purple PDF which is intended as a writing prompt and is in the process of developing an independent auxillary combat system, or AMGC's blue pdf which contains combat rules for PNP campaigns along with the rolls.

Post builds, roleplay, write stuff.

This is a oneshot quest for practice purposing.

"W-what the hell? where am i?" I shouldn't be here...no, where is my stairway to heaven? where is my Johnny?

My bullet wounds, still fresh oozing black blood. The skies...why they are so red?

"We ain't got all day Ilene.." A somewhat charismatic man called out my name. I found no trouble getting up from my makeshift coffin. Bullet riddled corpses surrounded both of us.

He was rolling a tobacco with a strange grin, he smelled nice and his suit was decent too but something didn't seem right about this guy.

>Where is my johnny?

"Where you died you silly goose! don't you remember?" With a simple gesture, he pulled out twelve maybe thirteen bullets. One of them sprouted out of my head with a slimy trail.

It hit me like a train; Me, Johnny and Abraham ate some dirt from those Pinkerton agents. Yeah, we stole a lot but never did we kill anyone unless they pulled out their guns first. They offed Abraham in a trap while me and Johnny made our escape three weeks ago...

Escape. Right.

I always said to johnny "Dear johnny, it is time we find yourself a small ranch...time to settle down..." but he never listened. Yesterday, we ran out of luck. They found us again. They made sure we wouldn't slip once more.

His optimism was peculiar to say the least, like a gentleman, he offered his smoke to me.

>Refuse.

knives never got less lethal in mos cases...it's just that guns are WAY MORE LETHAL...

that and guns require WAY LESS training than melee weapons...

it saddens me that melee weapons are so unpopular these days...
>>
There was a game I used to like called Spookengine. Standard modern dicepool thing.

Had a few neat features for knifeplay. Initiative was determined by weapon range and common sense. Basically, if you had a knife and the other guy didn't you went first. If you had a gun and he hand a knife, you went first. If you're in melee, you have a knife and he has a long gun (long enough he needs to back up a bit to put you in front of it) you go first. If you're on equal terms and armed identically, the GM might well rule simultaneous initiative. You both scored a hit? You might both be fatally wounded.

Second, health was called Luck. Any lethal attack (knife wounds, gunshots, falls greater than four metres, etc) would knock off one luck. Thing was, you didn't know how much luck you had. It was rolled in secret by the DM, we did it at the start of a session, and could be between none and four.

Basically, fights were brutal as fuck, nobody wanted to be in a fight, and knife fights were no exception.

winter forest - night.jpg
635KB, 1280x960px
You wake up to the blow of the cold wind. Laying flat on your stomach with your face in the cold snow. You carefully scrap yourself up, and sweep the cold white substance from your chest. Your shirt is just a tattered piece of cloth barely covering your back and front, and your blue linen pants, misses it's sleeves from the knee down on your right leg. The thin cover snow emanates cold from under your bare feet. A rope dangles from your waist with an empty leather-bag and a sharp, weathered metal knife.

You look around and see the white-green of winter pine trees. The forest you are in seems to thicken to the east and thin on the north. At least you thik it's east and north, because the setting sun identifies them as those certain directions. As the sun sinks into the horizon you hear the cry of wild beasts in the distance.

As you hear it, you know the owners of the sounds are coming for you. A very powerful feeling sweeps over you. This feeling could be summarized in a simple sentence.

"They must not catch you"

You feel like they are coming from the east. What do you do?
>A) You go west, and try to maneuver between the trees
>B) You go north, hoping that the advantage of the open ground might help you
>C) You go east from where they come from
>D) You stay still and wait

Write-ins are always allowed even tough I might forget to list it in the choices. I mean what's the point of a Quest if you can't act off-script?

You could stare at this thing, this crystal device, all day and you still wouldn't be able to learn anything from it.

You've done so, in fact. Ever since you limped back into the town of Foothills and collapsed down in the temple – Garl's old residence, now standing vacant – you've been thinking about that curiously compelling device. Well, perhaps you've not been thinking on it all the time – you spent a large part of the following day sleeping, but even then you kept seeing that golden light in your dreams. It must be important, then, to chase away the demons you're used to seeing whenever you close your eyes.

The initial burst of desperate possessiveness has faded somewhat, retreating to the back of your mind to lurk as a kind of insistent whisper. Curious, you think, that Tawn was so willing to hand the disc over when he first found it. If your positions had been reversed, he would have needed to pry it from your cold dead hands.

Curious.

Tawn himself was busy for most of your restful day, hastily scratching out letters and riding between outposts. Securing troops, he told you later, to occupy the mountain ruins. While the hillfolk are scattered, you've got a rare chance to study the place fully – an opportunity that Tawn was evidently unwilling to waste. According to the scouts he contacted, the hillfolk have split into countless smaller bands, surfacing all across the central mountains.

So be it. You share his desire to study the ruins, but you don't want to buy that opportunity with genocide. When the hillfolk return to their ancestral home to find it full of soldiers and scholars – the meek men they have been raised to despise – there will be trouble. It might not come to violence, though, if the clan can be guided towards a more enlightened future. Such a thing is possible – as the young tribal currently sharing the temple with you can prove.

Alk, having turned his back on his clan in the face of impending sacrifice, has spent almost the entirety of the past day reading, his attention focussed on whatever intact books he can find in the temple. He reads slowly, and with signs of difficulty, but he has a kind of desperate persistence that you can't help but admire. His clan are no friends to the written word, instead carving their dubious wisdom into both stone and flesh. The flowing ridges of scar tissue visible on his arms are testament to that barbaric practice.

The same kind of curving lines, you muse, that decorate the mysterious lens – perhaps the boy, with his growing knowledge of words and letters, can offer some kind of translation. Then again, when the situation with the hillfolk is so sensitive, do you really have time to focus on academic whims?

>Consult Alk about the lens
>Speak with Tawn about the hillfolk situation

So recently i've been dming for some friends who have never played tabletop before, due to travelling issues for some members we play online.
Now the problem is that we have a member who is a bit ...slower than the average person, so it has carried over to the game so it sometimes takes him a bit longer to do combat and stuff, which is fine.
But in the most recent session he was taking considerably longer, not being really aware of what was happening outside of combat either. Once the session ended we were having our regular post session discussion and it turns out he has been watching anime the whole session other then when it's his turn in combat, because "that's all that matters".
Any advice on how to approach this? It's really annoying for me and the other players to have to constantly be explaining to him how to play and reminding him of what is happening, but watching anime during the session on top of this is way over the line, any advice?

Whatever you do, definitely don't talk to the player directly and state your concern. Better to just resent him and let his behavior go unchecked and drag the whole group down.
>>
What anime was it tho?
>>
>>46135619
I've already talked to him directly about this before, it got to the point where one the players refused to play with him for a week or so but they got over it, at this point I think just not letting him play any more is the best course of action.

So, /tg/, I've recently had my interest to Degenesis reignited by the awesomely awesome trailer of awesomness (I am talking about Sacrifice Everything, of course). And I wanted to ask if any of you ran a game, and how did it go?

How did the system behave? How lethal was it? Did you manage to conserve the atmosphere and style cultivated by the great art?

Stories would be much appreciated.

The system could literally be replaced by anything else and still be the same.

It has the Burning Wheel mentality of tracking absolutely everything for the sake of... ???
All in all, it's a dryly presented, but still somewhat curious, setting with a system that does little to support the stress that aforementioned setting would imply.

It's not bad. But it's not worth the $100-ish dollars the core stuff costs.
