I'm unsure whether I like it or not
What's your favorite Board James episode /tg/?
>>47012742
I guess the Heroquest episode? James Rolfe seems to mostly have terrible tastes in board games. Or maybe because his collection is 80s/90s and popular games from that era are mostly terrible.
>>47012875
He has some real gems in his collection. But yea it's mostly a notalgic look at lots of games that were around but lots of kids didn't play because they were rather expensive and hard to find.
The best episode is obviously Dragon Stirke;

A monk, a fighter (with +1 level adjustment), and a soulknife?
SERIOUSLY?
Arguably the single most powerful in all of Nudibranch Battle Cards.
What do you have that can hope to challenge this?

Hello,
I need some help with the back story of a character I made for D&D. He is a human ranger, and his major characteristic is that he hates trees and his enemy species is plants. I've decided that he comes from a long line of tree hating woodsmen.
What I really need help with is creating a reason for this generations of hatred, and hopefully some family oral history to explain it. Something that could be told from father to son, possibly in a religious/moral story style.
I was thinking that his family is convinced that trees want to kill humans so that they won't be cut down any more. That there is a vast tree conspiracy to eradicate humans, and possibly all other life.
Any suggestions would be fantastic!
His great grandpappy saw The Happening.

The hatred of trees seems silly. Why not have a vendetta against Ents and similar things that masquerade as trees? He comes from a woodland environment and over generations gradually more and more Ents started to appear. They perceived the humans as intruding upon nature and started to attack, using their perfect mimicry of trees. The humans in turn naturally felt attack by monsters, they had been using the forest as their livelihood for generations.
Post what your abhumans look like
Abhumans are evolutionary adaptations. That's clearly a mutation.

Trying to put together a Vampire Hunter D/Castlevania, gothic/post apocalyptic campaign and would like suggestions for a system to run. Gonna pull ideas from both worlds and will probably lift a bit from Ravenloft and some other sources but not sold on a full D&D system.
Ideas, hooks and system suggestions welcome, in the mean time Gothic/Hunter/Vampire art dump.

Any heroes unlimited games going on?
Does anyone actually give a fuck about short races? What do they even add to the game? Whimsy and lightheartedness? You can get that shit without being a halfling or gnome. I can understand the appeal of dwarves, since they're gritty and tough, but what the fuck do gnomes and halflings contribute? When was the last time a gnome or halfling was cool or heroic, or something that wasn't comic relief? When was the last time a gnome or halfling wasn't an annoying little shit played by That Guy?
Plus, I'm sure enough people in this hobby are manlets, and if there's one thing manlets hate, it's reminders of their undersized stature.
Given enough variety (more than just humans, orcs, elves, and maybe dwarves) what reason is there for gnomes and halflings to even be a playable option? Is it just another sacred cow of fantasy that people refuse to slaughter because of creative stagnation? Are there people out there who actually like this shit? Please help me understand.
>>47008698
If you don't like them, don't include them on your game. No need to sperg out. People like different things than you.
>>47008829
You're not wrong, but I just don't understand why people like halflings and gnomes. At all. What is there to like about them? Please tell me.

So I'm trying to get my fairly normie real life pals to try out a session, I'm pretty much going to create a very simple system and pull whatever pieces I want from other systems as well.
Any tips? Any advice? Are there any other games made with newbies/normies in mind?
>>47008135
Well which systems have you, personally, played so far?
In a general sense, I've found that what's probably the best thing for newbies is shorter lists of options. New players typically don't want to pore over the book trying to figure out what's going to be good and when so they can pick the best perk/feat/whatever out of the list of 100+. I personally tend to just assume my first character in any game (P&P or vidya) is going to have some kind of horrible mistake involved in it somewhere so it's nice when I only have around 10-20 options to pick from and know things will be slightly easier than normal, so I don't have to worry.

Risus or Lasers and Feelings
>>47008135
Anon, listen to me: take a preesistent system. Dont' homebrew it for the first session.
It needs to be simple (hell, think carefully if you want them to to make their own sheets, possibly best thing is to make them yourself), but overall, use something you already know.
