What are some ways you can fit super powers into a fantasy setting?
>>47685241
Magic is superpowers, you silly goose.
by calling them magic
you just change the origin stories
instead of "from another planet" or "bitten by radioactive animal" you have "son of zeus" or "magic"
Need some advice /tg/. My friend is going to run a game in 3.5 with any splatbooks. Problem is I don't usually play d&d. Can anyone offer me advice on how to make a mage or alchemist that blows shit up. let me stress here I really just want to be able to blow shit up. its not going to be a high level campaign so I dont need any versatility
TL;DR tell me ways in which I can optimize my character for blowing shit up in D&D 3.5
>3.5
>Spellcaster
>How to blow shit up
Yeah. Okay. Step 1: Make a spellcaster.
There are no more steps.
What level?
>>47684953
any splatbooks which are better for explosions than the vanilla spells?
Bad cards played in Modern Thread, go!
>>47684872
kills guys, draws cards, wins game when youre ahead as control. bad?
>>47685550
kills everything and is basically only countered by boros charm and manlands. I'm only sad to have this card if my opponent has no creatures. bad?
>>47686240
Nahiri's +2 is a neg 1, the -2 is good but Gideon Jura does the same thing plus much more, and the -8 is hard to pull off and not worth it. Verdict is too color intensive, Wrath of God is better in every way.

So what do you guys think about this game? Did anything worthwhile happened on your groups? Does anyone still cares with this system after Bluerose and the cancerous "Romantic Fantasy" take on AGE?
>>47684294
Wait a second. I recognize that art style.

And...?
Wbat are good uses of illusionary magic? I wanna try an illusionist but I'm not too clever.
All I have is hide in an alley and throw up a fake wall to loose pursuers.
>>47684125
Lose*
They're are lots of options. Make a cliff appear slightly longer than it is so people fall/are pushed off easily
What about a fake entrance to a tunnel old cartoon style?
Turning yourself into something scary can work, maybe an orge to chase away goblins or turn the rogue into the evil wizard so you can sneak attack the wizard's second in command. It depends on the situation really.
>>47684300
I've had one of my pcs pull off the cliff thing against an invading army. The guys in the back just saw a field and kept pushing the guys at the front forward off the edge.
>>47684125
Create the Illusion of thick fog so people can't see out of it
Create an illusory wall of force to make people think you have a barrier
Ever surprise your players with a completely unexpected encounter?
>>47684103
All the time. Got some good recurring NPC's out of it too.
I made one guy fight a fag.
Does that count?
The fag turned out to be a massive demon that wanted to feast upon his soul.
I think the most surprised I've ever been in an RPG was waking up to find that someone just set our god damned house on fire
What are some essential things every wizard should have in their lair or place of residence?
The wizard
A chained up warrior to make fun of.
Hidden exit.
Your next campaign is made up entirely of high intensity one on one duels with deadly opponents.
You're the boss, applesauce.

>campaign made exclusively of combat encounters
>without strategy, to boot.

Nidhogg is great, though.
List building general because the other generals are cluttered, and forums are too slow. AoS, 40k, etc all welcome.
To start with, I'm a new tyranid player looking to build a 750 point army for a friendly 3-4 person game. I have the start collecting box and 2 gargoyle broods (30 total gargoyles) right now and I'm trying to decide what to buy next to make a functional army. I have a few ideas already but would appreciate some feedback/CC.
List 1:
>Hive Tyrant - TL Devourers With Brainleech Worms, Lash Whip And Bonesword, Adrenal Glands, Regeneration, Electroshock Grubs, Wings, ,
>Termagant (20) - stock
>Tyranid Warrior (3): Rending Claws, Lash Whip And Bonesword(2), Devourers, Deathspitter, Venom Cannon, ,
>Gargoyle Swarm (15) - stock
>Zoanthrope
>Venomthrope (3)
List 2:
>Deathleaper
>Tyranid Warrior (3): Scything Talons(3), Deathspitter(2), Venom Cannon, ,
>Genestealer (5):
>Lictor Brood (3)
>Mawloc (2)
I need some advice for my Tau list. I'm trying to make a 1000pt take-all-comers list and I think I've got a pretty terrifying 850pts, but I don't know what to add for the last 150. Any tips?

This is a great idea for a General thread. I'd recommend including this link in the description every time to help with list posting: https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Warhammer_40,000/Tactics
>>47683512
A couple of recommendations:
1. You need Markerlights. Bring Pathfinders or Tetras instead of the Piranha and/or give your Strike Teams markerlights. They might seem like kind of a pain to bring at first, but seriously, markerlights win games for Tau.
2. I would recommend dropping the Sniper Drones and bringing a Hammerhead or Broadside Team instead. Your army seems a bit squishy and lacking in heavy firepower, as well as long-range support.
3. Overall, this seems like a very close-range army to me (by Tau standards anyway). As such you might also want to look at giving your Fire Warriors transports so they can keep up with the rest of your army, or upgrade them to be stationary fire support (give them things like the DS8 support turret), or some combination of the above (have one team be your transport team and the rest be fire support, for example).
4. If you need a few more points, feel free to drop the Cadre Fireblade. They're not bad or anything, but you already have an HQ, and you could get the same effect as the Fireblade's "Volley Fire" rule by just increasing the number of Fire Warriors in your Strike Teams instead. This method is cheaper and gives you more bodies so your squads won't die as easily.
Do you do voices during your sessions? Any tips for someone trying expand their vocal repertoire?
Yes. No.
I try not to, since i'm awful at it
I'd like to know myself
>>47681234
Yes
Practice. Do funny voices in the shower and shit, try to be more expressive in your everyday speech.
What games have added in the mythological fairy, sidhe, Norse alf? What were their rules? How does one incorporate them into a game?
You might want to have a look at the wood elves from warhammer fantasy. They reside in deep forests and steal human children. Some of them return as mages. Sometimes they attack humans, sometimes they suddenly appear to help them in battle. No one can really figure out why they are doing things.
>>47680567
I know there's a lot of backlash against the game since, but I felt the original editions of 7th Sea handed the Sidhe very well in their fluff.
I know where I am from, Elves typically are house spirits like Hobbs and shit. Guard your home and your family if you aren't a broken family.
/tg/ what Legions represent the Seven Deadly Sins?
Flipside is what Legions represent the Seven Virtues?
>>47680115
I think it folly to try and equate the Legions with any particular sin or virtue.
But here we go.
Pride: Emperor's Children
Envy: Alpha Legion
Gluttony: Thousand Sons
Lust: Night Lords
Anger: World Eaters
Greed: Sons of Horus
Sloth: ?
Faith: Imperial Fists
Hope: Ultramarines
Charity: Salamanders
Fortitude: Iron Hands
Justice: ?
Prudence: ?
Temperance: ?
Sins are hard because they mostly all boil down to the same shit. Virtues I would really just give it all to the Ultramarines.
>>47680451
Justice: I feel like this would fit Ultramarines better, with Salamanders as Hope.
Temperance: Almost certainly Raven Guard.
>>47680451
Faith is obviously Word Bearers

Well, /tg/, how is it? GM wants to run this and this rulebook is...something else.
>>47680034
>Said happily to my players "create a character for the OVA one shot"
>session day, see character sheets: The fucking Avatar, Gambito, A wind elemental martial artist, A guy with a sword and demon powers, a black american guy
>all of them could fly
>say fuck it you are in an island and a bunch of t-rex with miniguns attack you
>after they kill the t-rex a battle royale starts, gambito killed about 2 players and had a long keikku dori fight with the wind master
>the american guy launched a nuke in the island
>cries while the american flag waves in the background
It was retarded but fun, it could work in a more serious group
>>47680562
My concern is how open ended the rules seem, the rulebook kinda throws a lot of stuff at you and says "talk with your GM to make sense of this".
>>47680034
The game is good, even suffering by the same problem as BESM of "you can break this game easely if your GM don't put his finger."
Characters can be in a well rounded group, but maybe that's not the focus of 80% of the groups out there.
What does /tg/ think of Paranoia?
We quite rightly think whatever Friend Computer instructs us to think!
>>47680027
Whatever my nearest non-commiemutanttraitor superior instructs me to think, sah.
Paranoia is right fun. I completely and ultimately give my soul and body as an offering to the friend computerof my own free will and volition!
