Hey there TG, So given this board is the hallowed home of many angry warhammer fans, I figured some of you may be interested in poxnora.
Poxnora is a sadly overlooked strategy game where in you command a vast and varied army in a tabletop style skirmish. While it does lack much of the dice rolling there are an unimaginable number of strategies and synergies in the game. Furthermore, even individual units can be given altered abilities to help adapt to different decks.
Poxnora is a free to play game that sadly has a very small fan Base due to its niche appeal. So I really hope some of you will check it out.

what do you mean by angry???

And tell us more.
>>
>>48125486

Angry because your sadly overlooked strategy game where you command a vast and varied army in a tabletop skirmish, with an unimaginable number of strategies and synergies of its own... got killed and replaced with something less. With that in mind I think we have something in common, and could be friends.

>elves are skinnier than humans
>elves have no penalty to strength relative to humans

So, elves are stronger than they look, right?
18 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
They do a lot of climbing and hunting and shit in those forests they live in, so I assume they're lean but rather fit on average.
>>
>>48125121
Elves are also very tall. They appear skinny accordingly when muscle mass is the same.

Also strength and muscle mass doesn't always correlate.
>>
>>48125121
Wild elves (elf subrace that is basically wood elves +) are as strong on average as half orcs (and about as smart too), while still being physically similar to other elves (ie. similar build and stature). So yes, elfs are stronk.

Is it Good to condemn an innocent person to X amount of pain, as long as doing so would indirectly allow a billion people to experience (X+1)/10^9 amount of pleasure each?

This pleasure does NOT come from knowing that the innocent person is in pain, it's not someone they all hate or anything like that. You cannot choose which innocent person will feel pain, and it ONLY works if they objectively don't deserve it. No third option to have it both ways, no loophole, no bullshit. Answer either yes or no.

No that's evil, you're manipulating billions of peoples emotions at the price of a someone elses suffering.

Unless that person derived pleasure from that pain. In which case, with their consent, whip that ass nigga.

You mean demons are assigned social roles according to the sound they make? All demons or just stupid ones? That could work.

IMHO the broad concept of fallen angels is awesome, but only when the setting doesn't include the Abrahamic God, because it's literally heresy to imply He doesn't already have them under control. So anything you do to make your demons a bit different but still recognizable is a plus for me.

What does /tg/ think of characters that are just clones of another?

I always hated the idea of people playing anime characters and Drizzt clones but recently I saw the name Garruk Wildspeaker on /tg/. I found it odd because that's the name of a PC Barbarian/Ranger in my Campaign and after a google search I figured out he literally ripped off Garruk from MtG backstory and all.

The thing is he's roleplaying the character really well so now I'm not sure what my opinions are. What are yours?

Hi /tg/,

What kinds of tools would assassins of various (ancient) nations use?

I'm thinking along the lines of England, France, Scandinavia, India, Japan... If any other countries had some fancy or interesting tools/methods, I'd like to hear about that, too.

A knife and like 10 other dudes with knives.

A pillow.

Various inedible plant extracts.
>>
>>48122453
If we are talking about -ancient- northern europe it would probanly either be an axe to the head, or a long knife to the guts, followed by shouting "the chietain is dead! Long live the chieftain!".

But in general assasination techniques didn't change much over the years. A good placed crossbow/bow shot. Knife or multiple knofes in the guts. Poison. Strangulation.

Also you have to drop the thought that "assasains" wear all black, or that thy are som sort fo brotherhood or something.

Historical hitmen were either people close to the target (like in ceasars or rasputins case) or simply random mercs and lowlifes to do the job.

Not sure you can say that all of them are like that. I'm pretty sure that even then there where professional hitmen of various places in various times.

Example: the ninja. Another is the actual Hashashin.

How do I roleplay /tg/?

I've been reading some screencapped stories from this board, and it looks pretty fun, but after looking at some of main roleplay sites that google mustered up, everything that pops up is either abandoned or is some anime cringy shit.

Help a complete noob here? The whole point system and battles in stories really caught my eye and this all just seems plain fun

Roleplay websites are inherently weird, most are set up by weebs and bronies to yell BAKKA at eachother till the sun explodes.

Most of the stories on here are from Table TopRole Playing Games, pen and paper games mostly. They're a bit more interactive so try looking into some different systems? Gonna get flammed for it but check out critcal role, a D&D web series with some pretty good rp.

As for the last part yeh, it is pretty good fun. Try find some friends that play RPG's, try get some into it or just jump into it online/in a flgs.
>>
>>48120993
Where would I go about finding some of these pen and paper games? Are they like online or do I need to buy actual board games? Is pen and paper all I need to play them? Sorry for the interrogation but I am pretty new to this stuff hehe.
>>
>>48120875
If you're going to try and get into an online roleplaying COMMUNITY, I'd recommend against it.

Spoony was completely correct when he said that those are pretty much run by an inner circle of friends, and if you're not in that inner-circle, you'll get fucked over hard.

Years ago, I had a similar experience where some fuck head kicked me out of a Star Wars RP community on steam because I called one of his friends an idiot after a huge, annoying, argument where we introduced our faction and this kid didn't like it even though we were approved by the head admin of the community, so he talked behind our backs and used his stupid little "rp character" to permanently disable our faction. So, I did the reasonable thing (seeing as the idiot over-looked the fact that I was an admin on around 4 of the Star Wars RP groups) and posted the argument chat-log as an announcement in all the groups I was admin of, called out the head admin for abusing and exploiting his position to make his friend feel better, and generally tore down the community as a whole.

It died about a month later.

My tip to you, use the game-finder threads on /tg/ so you don't have to go through the hassle of being pigeon-holed because a bunch of egotistical losers don't like their power fantasies being interrupted.

>Finding tabletop game to be a part of

/tg/, please help me. If you ever need an example of what happens to someone overwhelmed by choices, you're looking at him. After re-reading the Ballad of Edgardo I want to get involved in SOME sort of fucking RP but I have no idea where to go or what to do.

I realize there are threads on here and shit but... I don't fucking know. I don't just want to jump in to some random game when there's so many out there. I've played D&D4 and 5 a couple times, and did a bit of Call of Cthulu, but I'm at a loss for where to go to do some RPG stuff due to so many fucking options being available.

I don't have anyone around to do shit with (Seriously. My neighborhood is full of older people and little kids.), and at the moment, I can't drive anywhere, so it'd have to be online which is part of the problem.

Help getting started somewhere on here would be nice. I just want somewhere to go because I'm completely clueless. In terms of what kinds of RPs I'd be into if you want to suggest something (Or even just a site, or particular thread on here) to visit, basically anything really. Preferably nothing mundane/boring but really I'd try just about anything. I just want to get involved somehow. Thanks in advance, anons.

Grab another rulebook if you want to do D&D 5th Edition, This doesnt even go in depth about character creation, which is important.
>>

If you're referring to the OP pic, it's unrelated other than the word "Starter" since I'm new to actively searching out groups to play with.
>>
>>48120351
The easiest games to find a group for are Pathfinder and 5E.

Since online seems to be your only hope, try Roll20 or gamefinder threads on tg and hope you find a decent group. online people tend to be flakes/weirdos/busy people but you might get lucky and find a sane and stable steady gaming group.

As for other games just think about stuff that interests you and look into things that catch your eye.

genres like Fantasy or cyberpunk or settings like Star Wars or Dresden Files.

and try to be familiar with the rules of the game. nobody likes explaining stuff all the time.

Sup, /tg/

I'm wanting to start a campaign in my homebrew world with a small group of new to medium experience players.

Can't decide if I should use Pathfinder or 5e for my ruleset, or if there's any other ruleset I should consider.

>other rulesets
Well, there's a lot of variables there, and I'm not really sure about your tastes, the expectations of the players, or the tone of the campaign so there's not a lot to gain from me throwing any names around.
>>
>>48120642
>there's not a lot to gain from me throwing any names around.

Honestly, it was more a question of personal favorites, trying to leave room for some open-ended discussion.
>>

D&D is a rather narrowly-targeted game, and isn't ideal for much other than dungeon crawling, or something very similar. It's about exploring and looting a dangerous area, with an emphasis on combat (even earlier editions, where it paid to avoid combat whenever possible, saw plenty of battle and were mechanically built around it). There's a strong to extremely strong power progression (depending on the edition), and the world is high magic. If all of that is what you want, that's great. But if you're doing something different, then D&D probably isn't the best system.

So what is it you're trying to do? What do you want to run? What do you want the game to focus on? What kind of setting do you want (swords & sorcery? gonzo magic?)?

Relatively new to RPGs, specifically DnD 5e.

My group's current DM is handing me the mantle of DMing for DnD games, because he wants to focus on becoming more familiar with other R{Gs, namely Dark Heresy. I have poured over the TPH, TMM, and DMG. The technical aspects I think I can handle.

Here's my question for more seasoned GM/DMs:

How do you keep a campaign tense and exciting, while still presenting challenges that your player characters will inevitably conquer? Is it better to let them fail? In your experience, how have players handled failure, or the death of their characters?

I feel like removing the possibility of death removes any tension from the adventure, but killing PCs could also turn off all future interest from their respective players. How should I handle this dilemma?

Failure isn't essentially lethal

Failure could be getting chased off by something far stronger, failure could be failure to successfully catch their target so on an so forth. And it's good to throw in the occasional "one or two of you will probably die" fight as long as they know it's that deadly and are the ones marching into it.

Put in the danger, just don't make the danger unable to be circumvented and don't make all potential fail states death and there you go interesting variation of potential success or failure without extreme mortality rate.
>>
>>48120286
As an Addition to this a lot of times it's best to use failing forward rather than outright failure to prevent plot and gameplay failing.
Still completing the "necessary" part of the action but with punishments and draw backs.
>>
>>48120233
Also, design all encounters as isolated "islands" that can be moved around and shifted freely to fit any circumstance rather than having either a single path or trying to plan for every possibility (Hint:you can't.).
