Why has it gone to shit so badly in the last few years?
There's no articles on half the interesting characters in most settings, no real critique on any of the modern fluff, system/setting variety is in the shitter, the decline of OC, the list goes on.
We have bullshit like massive, detailed articles on Age of Shitmar, of all things, with little in the way of any criticism. ( https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Warhammer:_Age_of_Sigmar )
But they can't be bothered to have more than token articles on stuff like:
>AD&D
>Call of Cthulu
>Traveller
And so forth. It's not even that the information presented is erroneous - what's mind-boggling is that there's such a dirth of content: no discussion on crunch or fluff, no real criticisms of anything the that has been done to either, no OC art or even storytiems anymore.
Why?
Why is the site so poorly modded that more shit is missing then has been added?
Half the Kharn stories have been edited down or outright deleted that I can remember. Why is it that the average Space Marine Chapter Master has a longer article then the entire Forgotten Realms overview article? Why do we have the whole All Guardsman Party storytime on there but no mention of Shadowrun Storytime? Why is it that Eclipse Phase and Pathfinder have whole articles to themselves with a total lack of any real discussion of their flaws? Why is it that half the character articles are just copy-pasta'd from other wikis when they used to be written by actual fa/tg/uys and had actual input & interpretation in them?
I wanna know why, /tg/.
And I want us to do something about it.
Hit that edit button instead of whining, senpai.
>>48095451
Also, I should add that if you have concerns about moderation, posting on /tg/ is not going to automatically reach wikifag. He is easy to reach via IRC or email, go talk to him with specific complaints.
>>48095382
To piss you and specifically you off.
tg, how do you guys find groups or players? Are local game shops a good option? What are your experiences with groups at game shops?
I literally have no friends, never played a tabletop game but want to try and start, and don't know where to look for people to play with.
>>48095290
It really depends on your lgs and the people there.
listen faggot. do what I did. Go up to your local game store, make sure they have tablespace (that increases the odds of an rpg group running games there) ask the store owner or staff if there is a group that shows up regularly. If they say yes, ask what day and time they show up. Then show up on that day and at that time and ask the group if there is a spot open.
It worked for me 5 years ago, and I never regretted it. There are only two roadblocks I can think of 1)their group is already full, 2)They are the worst kind of players and dont like outsiders.
And don't look like a basement dweller. Shower, shave, smell nice. Etc. That will help.
>>48095507
And bring bribes in the form of snackies. Food is an excellent form of currency among the neckbeards we all know we are.
What if the act of casting a spell was kinda like human defecation?
>>48094567
Then this thread would make you a wizard.
My tiefling Sorceress would shit gold.
And everyone else would (correctly) call bullshit as she then becomes everything I want in a woman.
So....fart wizards?
Thought I might ask here: I'd like to run a Life Is Strange-esque game for me and a few friends, in as so far that I imagine a group of (mostly) ordinary people investigating strange happenings in and around their town.
More precisely, I'd like a focus on social interactions, cleverness & gumption, clue finding and problem solving, all without overtly super-powered abilities or a strong focus on combat (although not entirely without it).
The group is used to Atomic Highway, but as customizable that is, it makes for far too heroic characters.
Fate might work, but I had hoped you guys might know a system or two that fits the bill (or at least the majority of it) that I haven't thought or heard of.
There is, I believe, a GUMSHOE engine game which is made to play investigators in a high-school setting
>>48094524
Thanks; do you mean BubbleGumshoe? I have never played that system, would you recommend it in general?
>>48094904
that is the system I was thinking of, I know little to nothing about that specific system, I have run GUMSHOE games before however and they work well for investigative/mystery driven games, how well it functions as a high-school investigation game will therefore rest on how well the mechanics for social dynamics and such hold up

"What do you mean it points down?" You ask, slithering towards Veles.
"I mean what I said from what I can sense, the trail linking the two gateways. Faintest hints of their magic. It points down." He says, pointing on an angle deeper into the earth, extending a claw for emphasis. "Where they have escaped too I cannot say, but I believe it to be down and sideways from here."
You look at the older lamia pointing towards the left wall of the chamber you are in angled at what looks to be halfway between the wall and the floor and then over to the Schola magos who should know about these sort of things. All he can offer is a shrug as he notices you. "Phoenix Empire blood rituals are outside anything the Nitor has had access to. I'd say well outside, but there were incidents, but those were traps. Not this gateway stuff. I'd kill to study it, only I'm not allowed to, kill that is. You'd have to for this sort of magic. Repugnant."

Does magic belong in the hands of anyone who can use it, or should it be restricted only to licensed agents of the state (or members of a guild with rules, a hierarchy, and restrictions on study) and otherwise criminalized and expunged?
I'm working on a homebrew setting for my next 5e game and could use /tg/'s input.
>>48094171
I dunno.
How does magic work in your setting?
To take from existing D&D settings, you could look at how Forgotten Realms implies that in theory anyone can learn magic, but because very few people are talented and have potential enough to self-teach, it kind of creates a sense of elitism among the people who developed their magical abilities, and as such they only pass on their knowledge to those they desire to.That then goes into deeper examples of just a mage who picks a young apprentice after seeing the potential within him, the nation of Cormyr having heavily regulated arcane magic users (including a secret police to keep them regulated), and a joke in one of the books about Raven's Bluff about how the next generation of wizards guild leaders are going to be mostly women, because when you have a guild composed of lonely old men, they tend to prefer taking female apprentices.
While a counter example would include places like Halruaa where life is made far easier by simple magics to keep homes cool in the summer, food from spoiling, etc, and even kids know basic cantrips for making illusions and lights for different games and activities.
But that is a setting where magic is a key part of the universe and those who live in it. And its manipulation is not inherently dangerous, but its abuse can cause some weird effects and destructive magics and summoning magics tend to weaken the walls of reality.
In my experience it depends entirely on just how easy it is to open a portal to hell in your setting

DnD 5e. That's how magic works in my setting.

You are Ophelia, twisted mentat and captain of the Spacing Guild Heighliner Exuberance, on a mission to explore wild space, surveying uncharted worlds to expand the bounds of the known universe. Last thread, you were busy inspecting the engineering deck, when you were lured outside the ship by a phantom noise only you could hear. During your spacewalk, someone tried to assassinate you.
The Heighliner is decelerating toward the habitable world Tloni 3, the third planet orbiting the binary star 1195 Tloni I. The choice that needs to be made immediately is whether you’ll continue with the mission as planned, or put the shore expedition on hold while you root out the plot to assassinate you. It’s possible that the attempt was intended to fail, as part of a scheme to either disrupt your plans, or to get you to continue them regardless. A feint within a feint.
Will you
>Continue the mission and send the shore party to the surface once you’re in orbit
>Put the mission on hold until you uncover the plot and apprehend those responsible

The show must go on. The Exuberance continues deccelerating toward a parking orbit around the planet. Whoever tried to assassinate you is most likely prepared for either eventuality, no point in slowing your roll now while you track them down.
You knock back a thimbleful of sapho, cybernetic pedipalps grinding furiously against one another beneath your undershirt. Agilus, the auxiliary consciousness the Tleilaxu built into your brain for data processing (and who recognized the trap in time to save you) presents you with the four most likely suspects.
>The expedition’s CHOAM officer, Roger Haut. The only one who could have accessed your dossier legitimately. Obvious motive to kill you: gain complete command over the ship.
>The Tleilaxu whores, Severian and Severa. Could have received information about you from the Bene Tleilax, along with orders to sabotage you.
>The head of engineering, Gell Voivode. Could easily have powered up the exterior shields without leaving any trace,
>The head Navigator, Aten, or one of his subordinate Navigators (who wouldn’t and most likely couldn’t have tried anything without his explicit consent). Would have known exactly how to entrap you, where you’d be and when.
Will you
>Investigate Suspect (choose which one)
>Something else (write in)

Has anyone ever made a decent tabletop/p&p game around pro wrestling?
I don't know about made but we played one. It was amazing.
>>48092977
There are a couple of good systems. World Wide Wrestling is one, there's another one with a very similar name. One is based on an old system but new and improved by fans of the original, the other is an Apocalypse Engine game and is also well received by wrestling fans.
>>48093202
Neat. These actually sound somewhat promising.
Post things that annoy you about any aspect of traditional games.
Pic very related. Painters that think they're 'professionals' because they've discovered an airbrush. Who then proceed to try and sell it for quadruple the price of the miniature, just because of a shitty paint-job.
Is it just me that thinks these style of paint jobs look horrible?
If they continue to make money then someone out there disagrees with you.
If most of them make money that lots of people out there disagree with you.
They wouldn't do if if no one was buying.
Example: the Age of Sigmar starter set costs £75
This guy is trying to sell it painted for £950
Would you buy it?

What should I know?
What are some warning signs that the game is going south?
One of my friends insists that his character is a 13 year old, chinese, bisexual samurai girl. Should that be permitted?
Are you GM or player?
What edition?
How many people are in group?
>>48091539
If everyone is fine with his character being a 13 year old bisexual samurai girl, then there's nothing wrong with it. The only real rule is "if everyone is having fun with it, then it's 100% fine".
>>48091539
>One of my friends insists that his character is a 13 year old, chinese, bisexual samurai girl. Should that be permitted?
If you're not the GM, that's not your call. If you are the GM, the fact that you're posting with that image and feel the need to call this out says you probably don't want it in your game, so you ought to work that out with him like an adult instead of bitching to /tg/. Also depends on edition. 4E would make that character pretty viable and possibly even interesting, for example.
So does anyone give a shit about this game? or is it just another generic(tm) brand sci fi with its only claim to fame being that it has an old 40k writer making the rules?
This is the first I've heard of it. Art direction looks more up my alley than 40k, that's for sure. Still a little on the busy side though, especially those...I can't even tell what the guys on the right are supposed to be, actually.
>>48091151
> is it just another generic(tm) brand sci fi with its only claim to fame being that it has an old 40k writer making the rules
That is pretty much it. The command dice rules are cool, but nothing helps it stand out. Infinity is at least visually distinct, and Warpath has reasonably priced made in the UK hard plastic for everything. I feel like Rick Priestly should put more attention to the presentation.
What's the most metal thing you have seen in game?
