What's the best way to stop players from going native in your game?
12 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>48107293
define "going native". This is a phrase that has no meaning on its own without proper context
>>
>>48107293
Brutally murder everyone and everything they so much as begin to care about.
>>
>>48107359
Probably means settling down and becoming like whatever NPCs live there, because it seems too cozy not to. Like, say you travel to some place where there be elves and they seem to be chill with you just hanging out. They treat you like a guest, give you free food and you get to oogle elven waifus all day long. Why would you move? It's safe there and you're set for life. (To elves, one human lifespan is like nothing.) No point in being an adventurous murderhobo when you can just life off elven welfare for the rest of your life in comfort.

Anyway, easiest way to avoid this is to make everyone dicks, but that sometimes sort of ruins your setting. In other settings, it's just how it is baseline though, and so wouldn't be a problem in the first place.

How does one even build a decent necromancer in 5e? it seems so under powered when compared to 3e.

>It seems so under powered when compared to 3e.

Welcome to magic in general in 5e, and thank Pelor for it. All the magic classes are weaker now, and this a good thing because they no longer completely overshadow everyone else by level 6.

As far as building a decent necromancer... meh, honestly you're better off just going for conjuration and making deals with demons and the like. Warlocks in particular tend to lend themselves to this well.
>>
>>48106808
>demon deals

this kind of interests me, what benefits could this lend me?
>>
>>48106808

You are completely and overwhelmingly incorrect, as 6th-level is precisely when necromancers attain a tremendous power upgrade.

D&D 5e's "bounded accuracy" makes a swarm of generic human skeletons with shortbows exceedingly vicious, particularly if the mob rules from the Dungeon Master's Guide (which occupy an odd space between "default rule" and "optional rule") are in play.

This is all the more the case for a 6th-level necromancer wizard, who can add their proficiency bonus to their created undead creatures' weapon damage rolls. I would go so far as to call a 9th-level necromancer who uses their 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-level spell slots on nothing but maintaining a force of 22 skeletons to be overpowered combat-wise.

Not widely known but fun to play

Welcome to the thread for d20 station, a rules light Space Station 13 server.

>What is Space Station 13?
It's a 2D top down atmospherics simulator with who dun it gameplay layered on top. Each crew member aboard the station has a specific job to perform, while a select few are selected to be traitors or antagonists (assasain/spy/thief).

>How do I get this game?
You'll need to download the BYOND client. There's games other than SS13, but enter those at your own risk.
BYOND Download link: http://www.byond.com/download/
You'll also want a BYOND account, which gives you a ckey so you can save preferences and be recognized by the game. It's highly recommended to make an account if you're experiencing connection issues or don't want to be a fat tourist/starving space bum.

To connect: Open BYOND, click the gear in the upper right. Click "Open Location" and paste in the IP below.
byond://76.16.8.127:28014 OR byond://d20station.ddns.net:28014

>How do I play
Use OOC and ask someone for help on how to play. People will almost always help you get a grip of the game if you're polite about it, just don't reveal too much in-round information in OOC. There's also wikis deticated to documenting the spaceman way of life, but they vary widely from server to server.

>What are the rules?
The rules are very relaxed and admins try to take a hands-off approach to administrating. Admins will generally only intervene if someone is explicitly playing to ruin the game or being a dick. Reminder to read the rules in-game.

>What map/code do you run?
We run a heavily modified Ministation map with now pretty much completely custom code. Most jobs on Ministation are merged with similar counterparts and head roles have been re-enabled.

>D20 wiki where?
http://robustvinyl.com/ss13/wiki/

>When does everyone play?
Check out the server pop graph to see when people are playing: http://www.ss13.se/servers/2284/

Usually admins/coders in the server.

I've been out of Warhammer for a while, but after seeing that the Dryads are getting a Tree Dreadknight, Orion's younger brothers and a Big Bad Beetleborg, I'm tempted to get back in.
What does /tg/ thing of this shit? Are we still calling GW hacks for everything they put out? I seem to vaguely remember something about new management trying to repair the damaged bonds with customers, did that ever amount to anything?
13 posts and 1 images submitted.

>>48105063
Did this really need an entire thread? just go to the AoS general, most of the people there are pretty happy with the newer releases, particularly the new Ironjawz and Sylvaneth. The points being added in also did away with a lot of the shitposting about AoS not being a real game. however, everyone has opinions, you will have people who will hate anything AoS comes up with simply because they think GW destroyed their setting and they can't play with rulebooks that came out 3-5 years ago
>>
>>48105063

/tg/ hates AoS. But they make some great models. And some really dorky models.

AoS was a total shitshow but GW is at least attempting to fix it now with the general's handbook and adding back in point costs. Still doesn't fix the weird ass setting though.
>>
>>48105063
>What does /tg/ thing of this shit?
models are cool, opinions still mixed on everything else

Scope out local shops, decide for yourself. Online communities are an awful judge of how much you'll enjoy a tabletop game.

All ideas sound stupid and pathetic at the start.

That's why you write them down, so you can work on them.
>>
If Gygax and Arneson hadn't thought "let's upend established war games and make them more complicated and granular at a smaller scale for fewer players with more necessity for an impartial third party referee and (eventually) uncommon dice not sold in stores and also let's play make believe and act like elves and fairies (in front of an audience of adults) as we do it by combining sixty influences in a haphazard way" we wouldn't have D&D and arguably wouldn't have RPGs as we know them. Certainly they would have taken longer to evolve and who knows where we'd be on that track by now.

Things that seem like nonsense the first time you see them written down on paper aren't necessarily without merit. Hell, some things never really look any better when they're reductively described in note form no matter how many times you see them.

Work on your idea. Add, tweak, and don't be afraid to take away. Maybe it won't work out. But then again, maybe it will.

If psykers shine brightly in the warp, and the emperor is the astronomicon, shouldn't the Tyranid hive mind be even brighter? How come the chaos gods don't just go after the most powerful single psyker in the entire universe?

Tyranids are like infrared instead of visible light in the warp.
>>
>>48103856
Emprah's too Powerful for chaos gods, sort of. it's hinted at that his Manly-nesses warp-presence is crazy strong to the point that any one chaos god trying to go after it might be doing itself more harm than good.

Also, the tyranid hive-mind's Psychic presence is fucking CRAZY huge, not neccessairly brighter, as its not as concentrated as the emperor's, but because its just a fucking gigantic flood of psychic activity from what is essentially the whole hive mind talking to itself, it causes disruptions in the warp for light years around the hive mind. this has the added Benefit to the 'Mind of fucking shit up for any planet it drifts by. (Normal citizens get migraines, psykers get bleeding eyeballs and coma's, and daemons stay the fuck away.)

How does /tg/ feel about all human settings?
31 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Depends on the setting.
>>
>>48103012
They're my go to these days. That said, there's a shit ton of variations, even with humans. You wanna play a midget or pygmy? Go ahead. Wanna play a 7-8ft tall beer chugging behemoth? Feel free. Fuck it, it's the age of sail, go ahead and play a Cherokee pirate who survived the pox.
>>
>>48103012
I like it. When I made my setting for my first game, I made no restrictions, so players came up with all sorts of wacky races. Had to keep adding more bullshit to explain where all these places are.

Also, some of my friends try to use race as a character trait rather than writing an actually interesting character.
