>Now I have a mental image of a huge Space Marine party going on in the ship en route to some mission
>you will never be an Angel of Death chilling with your brothers listening to the sickest beats of Mars while heading to a mission

August 13 1961, West Berlin.

Alfons Adlersflügel arrives at his home after a particularly stressful patrol around the city.
He struggles with inserting his key into the door as his arms are still shaking.
After failing at this basic task several times and making quite a noise in the process he hears someone opening the door from the other side.
Eryka, his wife, looks at him through the open door with wide eyes.

"Oh my God...
Dear?
What's wrong?"
She asks after witnessing her husbands expression for herself.

"Not here..."
He says as he steps through the door without kissing his wife on the cheeks like he usually does.

She locks the door behind her and then follows Alfons into the living room.
Once they are there she turns to her son.
"Jakob, go up to your room and finish your homework there.
I'll bake some cookies for when you finish."

"Okay Mom!"
He says and goes upstairs.

Meanwhile the man of the house gets out two wine glasses and pours them full.
He grabs hold of both and then hands one to his wife.
"You should take a seat Dear..."

She hesitates for a moment but complies afterward.
Eryka takes a sip of the almost golden liquid.
After savoring the taste for a while she looks up at Alfons.
"So tell me, what warrants opening a Hungarian one?
Don't tell me you also decided to give up your powers."

He looks down at her and then drinks the beverage.
"I found it..."

She gets confused for a moment, wondering what "it" could be.
But then the pieces fell into place.
"Are you sure?"

"I was not sure at first but the monstrous power, the gills, hell even the vocabulary was an exact match.
It said: You are not even worth my time, just as it was leaving."

She looks down at her glass and swirls the liquid around.
Neither of them give a sound for minutes.
Eventually she sighs and speaks up.
"Shit...
I thought I left that life behind and yet this thing keeps haunting me to this day."

"What's more is that it evolved."
Her husband replies to her.

"That's not a surprise.
That thing was always an anomaly."

"You don't get it.
I've never seen anything like it before."

She looks up at him and her eyes betray her despair.
"Don't tell me it's a Vasto Lorde now!"

"That's the point I'm trying to make!
I have no idea WHAT that thing was.
It's true that I've never seen a Vasto Lorde before but I'm willing to bet that they are not supposed to look like actual humans."

She laughs at this.
"They called me many things, insane, heretic, oath breaker when I left the order.
If only those bastards were still alive to witness that thing first hand."

"If they were alive then they'd be wiped out by that thing if they ever attacked it."

She sighs wearily.
"Oh Yhwach, how could this day get any worse?"
Eryka looks up at the stairs leading to her sons room.
Her eyes begin to water as she is lost in thought.
"I only wish that Jakob will be free of this curse!"
They then proceed to finish the entire bottle of wine, completely oblivious to the fact that their son was eavesdropping on the entire conversation.

Meanwhile in Hueco Mundo:

You sneeze loudly as you lead Pesci and Alex to the dining area where the others have already gathered.
"You okay Boss?"

You scratch your nose as you respond to him.
"Yeah...
Someone must be talking about me."

Alex rushes ahead of you.
"Come on already!
They already started without us!"

When you get there you find out that she was right.
They are sitting in a circle around the table with a tankard in front of each of them and what appears to be a bottle in the middle.
Apacci chugs the content of her tankard and then exclaims her joy.
"Man this is the life right here!
Food, actual houses and booze!
This is great!"

Alex quickly rushes to the Tres and clings onto Apaccis neck.
"You guys changed too!"
She squeals as she is basically choking the life out of her unfortunate victim.

Mila Rose stands up and greets you.
"It's good you came, we didn't want to start without you."

You blink in surprise.
"Start what exactly?"

Yata looks at you with eyes devoid of hope.
"An asinine party game.
Remind me again, why did you bring these imbeciles here?"

Mila Rose sits next to him with a malicious grin as she puts him into a headlock.
"Come on, it'll be fun!"

>Join in.
>Just observe.
>Other? (rite-in)
>>
>>48289473
>Join in
I mean, if Yata REALLY didn't want to join, he could leave at any time with ease. He just has to threaten to ruin the party with some kind of horrific disease.
I think he secretly enjoys it.

The way they did both resources and life points was awesome. You can't get mana screwed, but you have to make important choices about which cards you use for mana (or whatever the game had), and I really liked the idea that as you beat the shit out of someone they get cards in their hand to stop you, so that you have to win decisively.

Stage 125: The things that must be done....

You are finally home.

It's taken a while but you feel confident that your home, the penthouse of an apartment building overseen by something older and freakier than any youkai of the Age of Legends would be, is fairly safe and secure. Between your sister, an eminent fortuneteller and seer, your personal seer Er Yin-sensei, and the ancient being that owns the apartment complex, the place has been warded and purified to the point of sterility, if it weren't for the plants, artwork, and other feng shui your sister added to prevent just that. It is a safe haven and a place of warmth, love, and beautiful pastels.

That last was non-negotiable.

You and your wife took a nice long time in the baths getting clean and reacquainted with each other after not having any such opportunities for far too long. You've made the first and most critical arrangements to enforce the will of the Jade Emperor (may he live Ten Thousand times Ten Thousand Years) on the Buddhist demons and devils that your sister inadvertently sicced on you in the interests of preventing her own vision of the doom you will be bringing to Japan. Never mind that you were meant to bring this doom by order of Amaterasu-Omikami's own wishes; your sister wasn't entirely privy to that situation until after the fact, and by then it was too late for a lot of things. Nevertheless her heart is still in the right place and you are very happy that she is with you here, along with newer members of your family such as the slightly dazed enlightened immortal Yuuhi-chan, the keeper of Horobi's underwater palace Shoko, and the handsome and shy tomboy that is the daughter of the kamuy of the hunt and childbirth.

The other members of you close knit and rather strange little clan are equally happy to be home, reunited and safe alike with their own loved ones. While the Edict delivered in the name of the Jade Emperor must take precedence over all, at the moment you've done all you can, even to the point of sending a missive to the Mill Pond Demon, a kappa who could potentially help you to heal Er Yin's spiritual and physical damage. The edict might not forbid you from doing anything else, but at the moment your content to nibble on a mocchi ball and snuggle with Kiki-hime on the couch.

But time will pass, and you do have things on your mind, critical things. Still Kiki-hime is dozing off every few minutes, and the talk has become subdued and earnest. It might be time to take some time to yourself, or to discuss matters of subtle import, rather than exciting and troublesome things.

[] Try and nail down more information on the Mill Pond Demon.
[] Take Kiki-hime to bed and try and sleep for a while.
[] Send Yui-chan and Akari-chan to bed – they've been overworked and injured, respectively.
[] Put Kiki-hime to bed and send Akari and Yui to bed, and talk with the elders of your clan for a bit.
[] Suggest everyone join you and Kiki-hime in the master bedroom and just let everyone relax and bask in each other's presence.

>players want to play games together
>some want to play characters with supernatural abilities like the ability to cast spells
>some want to play characters with no supernatural abilities, just really good at hitting things.
>both players want the spells to be impressive, and reflecting magic's power in their favorite stories
>both players want the game to be balanced such that every character, magical or not, is on the same power level.

How does a system accomplish this?
172 posts and 16 images submitted.
>>
>>48281076
It doesn't. The system provides the framework by which the players and their GM resolve to accomplish it themselves.

There will literally never be a perfect system of rules, not in games, not in anything. There will always be complication, imbalance, confusion, ambiguity and dissatisfaction without the interference of active minds seeking a common goal.

>reflecting magic's power in their favorite stories
Which stories?

Lots of stories have plot magics, that take a dozen guys an hour (plus a few days of prep) to pull off, and that sort of thing, but all of the really flashy stuff I can think of wasn't the sort of thing you could do in a typical RPG battle.

The people in the Harry Potter universe, for example, can apparate (though iirc that needs some kind of pre-built magical network active to work), they can do stuff like make people dance or drop what they're holding or what have you, and the forbidden spells can kill, mind control, and ... cause pain? It's been a while.

None of that is super powerful stuff, unless you're transferring the insta-death spell to an RPG with lots of hit points (keep in mind a muggle with a gun and decent aim can pull off more or less the same in about the same amount of time).

The short version of the best solution I've heard is to make the really flashy magic stuff be super high level and possibly just let the noncasters surpass normal Human limits at a suitably high level (though in ways that are just "a little more [thing] than their lower-level versions").

If you're looking for an Angel Summoner and BMX Bandit type situation, however, the best you can manage is to shoehorn in a bunch of whatever the mundane guy(s) can do that the casters can't (or enough to blast through the casters' spell slots and then leave some more), but that would get really old really quickly.
>>
>>48281076

It can be done, but it's difficult if you want magic really powerful and martial characters to not be supernatural in any way, shape or form.

You watch the swamps through the keen eyes of gargoyles, the small Reconstructed perched and hidden in the dark trees that bled a white sap. The rains continued leaving everything it touched with an oily sheen and touch. A tall tripodal creature stalked through the brackish water underneath a gargoyle, spearing a wriggling organism their with harpoon like tongue that disappears into a blunt beak. It continued on its way only to run afoul of a juvenile of the same creature you faced the day before leaps out of the water snapping its beak at its legs.

The gargoyle watched the creatures struggle, the juvenile speared by the striders sharp tongue over and over as it nimbly avoids its graceless lunges. There was a sudden rumbling boom that shook the trees sending small creatures flying with buzzing wings, the gargoyle launching into the air to land on top of the canopy. It's keen eye sways and surveys the bleak sky, the noise being too powerful for simple thunder.

Through its eye you see it as it descends through the clouds towards the plains you had derailed the train in. At first you could not tell what you were looking at until it finally breached the cloudbank, leaving a gaping hole miles wide that let the pale sun shine through to illuminate the floating city. Even through the Reconstructed from where you sat on the frigates bridge you could sense it, an immense beacon of necrotic might that would give even Jadyk pause.

A city of twisted, misshapen spires drifts down from on high completely dwarfing the pair of the cruiser-sized floating buildings that flanked it. Bolts of sickly green necrotic energy crackle periodically from underneath the city as it travels across the plains toward the city the train had been bound. One of the cruisers departs from its side, descending to where the wreckage of the train lay scattered on the plains.

You ponder once again just where in the universe you were flung and just what the future held in store for you.

You are the Voidknight Disciple, a nameless hero of the New Necrotic Armada, far flung from your comrades.

On a strange world saturated with Necrotic energy you found the raw materials needed to create a Cauldron, a key tool for your return. Shockingly easy to attain was the fluids that fueled the creation of Reconstructed, liquid necrotic biomass pilfered from a native supply train already processed and infused.

After encounters with local wildlife and the local inhabitants you sought refuge in the dense swamps. There the ship was repaired and the Cauldron created while you explored an abandoned settlement. Several of the former inhabitants were discovered burned alive inside a strange monolith of necrotic forged metal.

Now you watch as a city several miles wide floats over the dark plains, a cloud of smaller craft buzzing around it like flies over carrion. You feel it tug at you, a beacon of necrotic power that feels oddly familiar.

Gargoyles sail high in the air despite the constant rain, eyes watching the distance and the floating craft. The cruiser hovers above where the wreckage of the train would be, specks of light moving from to and from the craft to the ground, possibly the engines of vehicles searching the scene.

Another rumbling blast reverberates through the air, shaking the trees once more, as the floating city comes to a stop over the glow of the earthbound town. A beam of light connects the two like an anchor. The hole in the clouds slowly seals itself like a healing wound, plunging the massive craft into darkness once more and hiding it from the gaze of your gargoyles.

Their attention was pulled though to the cruiser where more motes of light detach and lift into the air before splitting apart to begin a circling search pattern. Eventually they split into groups, heading various directions to begin their sweeps anew. A patrol grows close enough for the gargoyles to make out a trio of gunships, primitive looking engines sputtering to keep them airborne. Splayed beams of light emerge from a bubble of glass at their noses, sweeping across the landscape as they searched.

In time they will reach the swamp you are hidden in. The frigate is partially covered by foliage and mud, hoping to disguise it as a large boulder or hill but you do not know the capabilities of these natives.

The Reconstructed throughout the ship pause in their tasks, going motionless as the search party begins its sweep of the nearby swamp. You watch a screen showing the view from the gargoyles and sensor clusters on the ship, the flickering search lights passing over trees that seem to visibly cringe at their passing. The gargoyles hid among the branches and tense as the beams pass over them, sending a chill through their slender forms.

You and every Reconstructed and even the ship itself seems to tense as the beams pass over the frigates hull, the sputtering of their engines echoing out. Then the beams pass uneventfully. If you breathed you would've let it out in relief as you relax but the sense of safety is short lived.

The gunship sized craft, it's prow shaped like a heavily mutated human face with a weapons barrel extending from it's screaming maw, spins suddenly around with a burst of its engines. Its searchlight, focused into a beam, passes over the settlement then swings over to the frigate where it lands on its hull and freezes.

The Think Tank in command of the ship blares out an alarm, saying that the gunship was using primitive radiowaves to call out in a strange language but the Gargoyles spread throughout the swamp watch as the other craft bank hard, breaking their search to head for their comrade hovering over the frigate.

You have been discovered! How shall you react?

Why does every girl I have ever played dnd with always make a half elf ranger as her first character? There are also some recurring features: red hair; a raven pet; some kind of poetic name; a huge scar on the face that however doesn't tarnish her femininity; being the product of a beautiful and chaste elf being raped by an otherwise noble man in a moment of madness; the constant need of having a romance story with another player's character while remaining absolutely pure and many more that I can't recall right now. I personally know at least five girls that has made exactly the same character and I've been told by some friends of mine that they know many girls that did the same.

Why is this so common? I can't figure where does this stereotype origin from. All of these girls have made their characters before the release of the hobbit trilogy, which I understand could inspire unoriginal people.

Have you have ever met this kind of feminine half elf ranger? Have you ever recognized another stereotype that has no apparent origin yet is so widely common?

It's the same reason why there are so many dudes who can't resist the urge to be huge faggots and play the mysterious loner who's just in this for his personal gain, and wears a large cloak.

easy way of making a character that's "different" without having to put any effort in in terms of creativity or role-playing.

Where do you live? Where I'm from, girls make druids with wolf pets as their first character.

Every. Time.

Has anyone even created or adapted other tabletops for a Homestuck one?

I mean, i think the plot of the actual story is addicting to read if not a bit moronic and redundant. But the overall idea of the Setting what with Sburb/Sgrub, the sylladex system, Trolls and humans, and all that good stuff. I've seen attempts to adapt tabletops like Pathfinder and DnD, including a small few attempts to make their own, but i have yet to see one that actually works.

I figure if anything making one ourself would be easier.

Which thusly is my second question, would it be viable to make our own Homestuck tabletop via making our own system and/or adapting another tabletop's system?

Though this one won't be nearly as halfassed and incomplete as the one's i've seen if anyone besides me actually decides to put some work into it, i'd help obviously, but a single persons effort can only go so far.
