Any advice tg?
Also why does its artist hate pants?

Who doesn't?
This outfit confuses me the more I look at it.
Despite the art it has some lovely things in it.
My friends and I are writing up a rpg most likely going to be used online play. We are using SOA and EVE as the basis where rather than classes we will have skill slots open. (most likely 4 to start with maybe 10 or 12 maximum) Skills will be picked up through actions conducted through play (either repeated or epic) or if the players wish they can seek out essentially quest lines that reward with skills.
Skills will level up independently again through use, what we need help with, is a list of possible skills and possibly even branches for those skills.
Like SOA if a skill slot is replaced with another skill, all ranks in that skill will be lost.
We are also discussing what kind of stat & dice system we will use. So far the options are d100, d20 and the roll & keep system from 7th sea.
So /tg/ what skills would you suggest to add (both fantasy and sci-fi) and what stats and dice would you prefer, what are the pros and cons with each?
>>48282684
What are SOA and EVE? </newfag>
All of your dice system ideas are shit.
Your idea of writing your own RPG is shit. There are plenty of RPGs already out there. Use one of those. You are bad at roleplaying game design and it will take you years to have even one idea that will be worth turning into an actual game, and even that will require 2 to 3 more years of wrangling, all for you to make some piece of shit that will sit on DriveThruRPG and be downloaded once or twice by nu male hipsters on Reddit, who will read through it, see that it is shit they don't want to play, "upvote" your thread and leave a nice comment, then put the PDF in their recycle bin post-haste.

EVE is an autistic online roleplaying game played exclusively by fat 30-something neckbeard virgins with way too much time to waste. If you play EVE you are invariably a fucking loser.
Ultima Online and star wars galaxies are skill based MMOs you could check.
Regarding RPG systems, GURPS is probably your best bet.
Thinking of getting my baby nephew into minature wargaming.
He loves army men so I want to play a simple rules with them. You guys got any suggestions?
He's 9 btw.
It's a slight variation on the theme, but does he like Lego? Brikwars might be fun. The simpler version. I've played it with some younger folks before. I just had them build stuff that looked cool, figured out stats for it all and then let them roll dice and blow stuff up. It was fun.
I think I've seen an Army Men wargame pdf posted before, but I don't think I saved it, sorry.
>>48282660
Do you even need to ask? There is also a larger game featuring army men, but OPR does a good job at keeping it simple.

Hello /tg/.
I'm going to be DMing a campaign in the desert for the first time, and as it's something I've never done before, I'd like to ask you for some ideas for random encounters/situations a party might encounter out in the desert.
The setting itself is a mixture of both sandy and rocky desert, so if possible some situations for both would be nice.
Desert artwork would also be appreciated.
You could always have like, a sinkhole open to ruins of some forgotten civilization from a time when the land was fertile. Finding water is going to be a daily chore, so you'll have ample opportunity to throw random ways to get water in, like cacti or tubers or what have you. These could include fantastic things if it's a campaign with that sort of thing. Desert winds and sun are ample energy sources for all kinds of fun things as well.
/tg/ I have a problem, I'm at Half Price Books with a 30% off coupon burning a hole in my pocket.
I can't decide between Unknown Armies, Dark Heresy, Doctor Who Adventures In Time & Space complete box set, and Godlike.
With the coupon they're all between $15 and $25 dollars.
Tell me what to do anonymous strangers, you're the only ones I can trust.
Wow, I had given up hope of this posting, 4chan doesn't seem to like my phone.
>>48281994
UNKNOWN ARMEIS.
>>48282429
Well, it was a bit time sensitive, and I couldn't decide so I wound up quickly making a non-/tg/ book purchase instead.
The good news is I have a 40% off coupon for tomorrow, so the question about what to buy still stands so long as they still have all the books still there tomorrow.
Thanks for the input.
So I gave into temptation and bought one of those 3 packs +promo bundles for roughly 11 dollars
Now gonna open them.
Here are the packs, which one to open first is the question.
Right, so bfz first
Don't give up OP. Follow your dreams. Open those packs. I believe in you.
Wizards owns the concept of tieflings, right? That shit doesn't fall under the "you can't copy right games' rules," -rule, right?
If wizards owns tieflings, what would be the best; least-cringey way to include a tiefling proxy in an rpg that isn't D&D?
They weren't strait-up half-demons in Planescape right? I'm afraid my experience in the planes is restricted to one brief play-through of torment about 5 years back.
>>48281570
Just call it a cambion or something.
Make then a mutt of sorts where each one is a unique mix of fantasy species that somehow produces viable offspring (magic?)

>Wizards owns the concept of tieflings, right?
No, not right. They're not copywritten.

Just as the mysterious Eichel predicted, it's taken Rene and co. a little while to amass a powerful enough force to overwhelm Neir's castle guard. A few days of stocking up on weapons, warping around the continent in search of any remaining Imperial supporters (the desert region was a great place to look, though they made sure to always stay at least a day ahead of Hauteclere's projected route, and the islands still had more than a few pockets of Imperial loyalty)... With information about Rene's heritage, it's actually a more than easy enough feat to encourage disgruntled Imperials to take their weapons back up, and the castle guard is no match for the Gerxel they broke off of in the eleventh hour.
"H-hey, Rene, your excellency... I went to the same school as you, remember? I'm your upperclassman!" The captain of Neir's castle guard says, holding up her hands nervously as she's backed into a corner. Fear fills the young captain's eyes as Cicero's dagger comes dangerously close to her jugular. Her tone goes desperate. "P-please! Methodius was treating the guard awful! We had no idea how long Ximeno's mission would take! It was... It was bide our time pretending to serve the new crown or die and leave you supportless when you return, I swear it!"
"...you speak without conviction," Rene says, looking between the captain and Cicero, "and you'll immediately turn your tail for whomever is the strongest. You act purely in self-interest, and you expect me to forgive you as easily as I did a misguided young girl?"
"Your excellency..."
Cicero points out a fellow behind Rene, cutting the cowardly guard's neck as Rene easily defeats the would-be assassin.
You, Dyrus, are a desert away, anxious as you think of this. Your earlier truce with the Vautou allows the your group through the Southern desert, but you're still not so sure you can handle what's to come.

You hang around Sara and Felix quite a bit when you're not either training with your grandfather/mother or learning with Samson. Belle, Winona, Nia, and Marduk have thrown themselves wholly into training for the upcoming battles, while Via is maintaining a respectable distance from you outside of lessons and the like out of your stated desire to keep romance off the mind until you get back to Neir.
"Are you sure you can stand against Xouide, Sara?" Felix asks, concerned, "I mean, no one would fault you if you wanted to bow out of this entire mess..."
"No..." Sara, painting the desert landscape as she converses with the two of you (mostly Felix), shakes her head. "Xouide was... Also a blessing of the Ice Authority. It's only right that I aid in some way in... Retiring it. Try not to kill Ludwig, if you can, alright? He's... The likeliest of any of them to listen to reason, and still our brother..."
"Yeah, but Rene is our sister," Felix remarks, shuddering a little, "and we know we need to be prepared to stop HER by any means necessary."
"..."
The siblings look over towards you, Felix rubbing the back of his head as Sara speaks. "Oh... Apologies, Dyrus. She is your sister too..."
>A. Felix is still right
>B. You still think she has a chance

hi /tg/, anybody plays warzone resurrection or played the old version? Seems criminally underrated over here. Come and share you thoughts.
If you don't know the game, the new version is a fun wargame with some cards involved. Basically you play like a wargame, but also draw cards which you can activate using resources you units produce, the cards are just a suport to the actual game and it doesn't play like a card game at all.

i can only suggest you look into it, models are great and rules are too
>>48280853
Apparently v2.0 beta rules are out now.
These things look awesome.
>>48280920
yeah, but a lot of units haven't been added to 2.0 yet, i would suggest getting into old rules first.
Also no model they can possibly conceive will ever beat the awesomeness of old trenchers
>>48280951
The new ones look good too, though.
Why was Bretonnia so neglected by GW? Knights, Paladins, etc. are actually very popular.
Balanced rules for a cavalry focused army are hard, and GW is too shit at game design to make it work.

What? OH HEY LOOK OVER HERE SPACE MARINES IN FANTASY COOL RITE?

Gay frenchies.
What is a good alternative to dice pool count success system? I like how the attributes/stats have more effect than a +1,+2,+3 etc
shameless self bump
>>48280178
F/U has a system where you only pick the best out of a pool rather than counting up successes. More dice means better odds of a good pick. Unless you have 'negative dice' in which case you're taking the worst result.
Someone pitched an idea here a while back about a d6 system where you took your highest result and if you roll multiple 6s, each adds another +1 to the total. So a roll of 6, 6, 6 is actually an 8. Not sure of the math on this one, but it sounds like an interesting twist on exploding dice.
Risus has a system where more skill simply give you more d6 dice to add up. It's not a pool so much as a summation. But it has a weakness that your rolls wind up always floating around a set point, where checks above that quickly become impossible and those below it are trivial.
I've seen a couple 2d6 systems that had a simple degree of success mechanic for low/mid/high rolls. So 7-9 was partial success, 10+ complete success, and <7 is failure. These systems usually have the typical +1, +2, +3 type modifiers, though.

I saw a homebrew on here once that did something like this, except it used d4 to d12, which was your attribute score and the skill you used was how many dice you got to roll.
Seemed cool, but I haven't seen it for a long time now.

I saw some weird ass furry booth last year. Freaked me the hell out.
I'm hoping to go, but I got to see how my funds are looking.
If I do go in hoping to get the McCabe nightmare crew for Malifaux and Shadowrun Anarchy.
I also want to do some events since last time I only did a The Spoils starter deck mini tournament.
>>48279433
It seems like every year I try and do more events, then bow out right beforehand.
I try to keep my event list to one per day, then spend the rest of the day roaming the dealer hall and just doing things downtown.
