I'd like a few opinions on this :
I'm homebrewing an RPG system a bit like GURPS, where players can buy spell schools as skills.
Higher skill means higher chance of success. There are no individual spells to buy.
The 10 spell schools are :
Fire & Light
Earth & Nature
Water & Ice
Air & Lightning
Shadow & Illusion
Metal & Transmutation
Necromancy & Enchantment
Abjuration & Healing
Motion & Levitation
Conjuration & Scrying
Depending on how much mana is put in allows the caster to achieve greater effects, but the skill stays the same so it's as easy to light a candle as to create a firestorm.

What would living in an area cursed/blessed with eternal rain really be like?
Constant damp is bad for your health, there'd be moss and algae growing underneath everything, wood would rot, stone would wear away, various metals would corrode, it'd be a huge hassle keeping everything in good condition. Let's say there's some reason you wouldn't just avoid living there. Maybe you have an entire race or people descended from a rain god or something, so if enough of them gather in one place it rains all the time, or they've been cursed.
Or maybe there would be good reasons to stay there, even if it was just a specific spot? With a well-built canal/sewer/drainage system and a bunch of water wheels, you could use the rain as a perpetual source of power. You could also irrigate the shit out of a huge amount of land.
What would you see in a city built under endless rain, that you wouldn't see anywhere else? What weird customs, laws or practices would the people have? What would be the major imports and exports?
What other weird environments have you seen or had ideas for that you'd only get in a fantasy setting, and how well was it portrayed in terms of the day-to-day common inhabitant verisimilitude?

Does anyone have one of the Battle Geeks LOS Lasers? I was thinking of picking one up, and was wondering how it is.

I've used one, and I don't like the negatives (exposed button, chews up LR44s, sometimes isn't straight).
I figure a group of nerds making just an LOS laser probably have that shit bolted down pretty damn well. Just want some firsthand opinions.

In order to make a succesful fantasy campaign, is usually assumed that a medieval-renaissance world is necessary in order to avoid the modern day technology improvements that render adventures obsolete. Some settings take the tech level up to steam or diesel punk. I understand that is hard to suspend disbelief and enter a fantasy world that has a practical copy of everything we have on our real life world.
So that takes me to my question:
How did Goku do that? How do the Final Fantasy games do that? They blend Robots, Hoi Poi capsules, Guns, Lasers, Swords, Martial Arts, Dinosaurs, Monsters, Magic, Civilization, Computers, Ancient Ruins, Space travel and Living gods. And in any moment does the setting look stupid or zany; at least during your immersion on it.
What is the secret, /tg/? How can I run a fantasy game with swords and robots and make the players feel it as real and consistent?

Magic trumps tech (for what the characters use it, at least). And the line between the two is blurred.
Also, players shouldn't really give a fuck about what IRL would be more efficient. Or to be more precise, they should accept that swords can beat guns because magic, like in SWs we accept the same level of soft scifi and more.

Read "Changeling" by Roger Zelazny. Or "Lord of Light" by same.
The trick to consistency is consistency. Make the environment tell the players what they will expect to find here. bones, blood, claw marks, with birds and animals here and there, old city with strange carvings, off gems, glowing runs? Flesh and blood monsters nearby. Strange metal tower with electicity arching at the top of it? Steel walls, marred by rust and dented? Scorch marks here and there, jagged lines cut into trees? Strange hummign from the ground, or odd cables with vines hanging from them that make their hair stand up on end? Glowing panels with unusual symbols on them that react when touched? Mechanical beasts nearby. Weirdly organic lookign walls, strange temples with unusual fluids and an odd give to their structure? Glyphs and markings that resemble no language known? Foetid odors and weird smells that permeate the area? No animal sounds,no sounds of power, but strange, weird, distressing scrapes and scratching noises echoing from afar? Ululating howls that do not sound like beast nor mechanical monster? Tecnhnorganic monstrosities are coming for them.
Consistency is consistency. But descriptions explain everything.

Which are the best city sourcebooks in Vampire: the Masquerade?
Best in terms of setting, NPCs, plot/metaplot, versatility, opportunities while roleplaying, et cetera.
Everybody knows and loves Chicago by Night as the sourcebook can be played with and without the metaplot and has a huge number of memorable NPCs to boot. The possibilities in running a campaign are endless.
But what about the others? What makes them either strong or weak books?
Since I love Sabbat cities, I'm most familiar with Montreal by Night. In spite of the checkered reputation from Leif Jones's gristly artwork, Montreal by Night lays plenty of groundwork in running a Sabbat campaign. Not only are the NPCs as intriguing as they are diverse, each character has his own motives which can make stories take a multitude of directions. The metaplot involving Metathiax and his infernalists offers plenty of chances to unite the conservative members of the sect against such heresy and bring the demon traffickers to justice.
And let's not forget the fun and games you can play with your packmates at night. Taking Toy for a walk, bobbing for Mortals, movie night, literally playing Mortal Kombat with kine and performing discipline-based fatalities on them.
