I can't seem to find it anywhere, but I vaguely remember this video from years ago. I don't know if it's actually funny or I just thought it was back then, but the bits I remember are making me laugh now.

All I remember is someone is trying to DM a game of D&D, and somehow he ends up being accused of being racist and trying to defend himself, says something like, "But black people have a number of amazing characteristics! They can see in the dark. And detect ghosts."

Maybe it was from SNL or something?

Somebody help me out here. It's driving me crazy.

It was Patton Oswalt on his first appearance on Reno 911, season 2, episode 4.

Comedy Central has the clip:

What sort of settings can you come up with that would be appropriate for a certain style of music?

I don't think lo-fi hip hop is really a genre itself but the mood itself reminds me of a very noir kind of setting so I'm thinking something like Cowboy Bebop with a more inner-city feel. A vast multi-layered city where the majority of people are stuck in the Slums, the lowest layer and the PCs are trying to work their way to the surface either to find their fortunes or just leave and see the sun for the first time in their lives all the while battling cybernetically enhanced gangers, police, and their own personal demons.

Misty Isles of the Eld (for Labyrinth Lord/OSR) is heavily influenced by 1970's Glam Rock. I'd start with early Bowie and move into T.Rex, Slade and Mott the Hoople.

Sometimes. Often not.

How sharp do you like your games?
>>
>>51177526
If I think I can take an advantage, I'll play sharp. If I think it's just better to go straight to endgame, I can do that too. It also depends on the player I'm playing against. If he has no idea on how to play the opening, I can safely assume he's not that good, and I won't trade pieces off the board so I can pull a tactic to get considerable advantage.

It's the closest you'll get to a gellar field failure.

The Silent Hill movie is a decent take on a planet side Warp incursion.

The Ring offers what you'd get dealing with a corrupted psyker or mid level daemon.

The Lost Room was an interesting miniseries with some Chaotic overtones.

Rules are a bit wonky here and there but they're entirely playable. Best lore.

Revised 1st ed with a whole bunch of stuff dumped on top. Some of it interesting, most of it not so much.

>3rd
Absolutely bonkers. The rules are very convoluted. Has some neat colour art though.

>4th
Very different from previous editions but not in a good way. It's the best Shadowrun ruleset to play something like Deus Ex but it doesn't fit SR. Also too convoluted. Bad lore.

>5th
Decent rules. Still too complex but probably your best option. Let's you play anything from classic SR to way-out Deus Ex-type games. Worst lore.

Hey /tg/ hoping to get some feedback on a one-shot I'll be running in the near future. Feel free to ask for critique on your own games.

System: Savage Worlds (Deadlands Noir)

Setting: 1935 New Orleans, Louisana

Scenario: The PCs are all employed by the mob and assigned to go shakedown a butcher whose loan is overdue. They find him recently dead in his freezer with half a knife blade broken off in his chest, go to a diner next door to subtly ask patrons if anyone has gone into to out of the butcher shop, and get the name and frequent location of a local junkie. They go to the warehouse the junkie is known to stay in and find him being attacked by a few wild dogs. After resolving the dog problem they will report back to their boss likely with a clue in hand that points to the junkie being used as a pawn by a rival organization.

Does the above sound like a solid base for a game?

Id play it
>>
>>51176411
Good to hear. Any questions about it though? Like I said the plan is for it to be a one-shot that could easily set-up a longer term plot if the players really enjoy it.
>>
>>51178092
If I was a player I would follow through with my orders and proceed to raid the butcher's place to recoup some of the debt, maybe find out where he lives and do the same. I'd also suggest to the mob we could claim the killing as our own to make him an example of what happens when you don't pay your debts.

What are you favorite combat systems in TCGs/CCGs, especially in various "Magic-clones" and similar games where character cards are involved?

I'm making my own CCG (don't spaz out - it's a Uni project) and have basically everything nailed down for the first iteration, but the combat just isn't there.

Duel Masters had a pretty great combat dynamic.

Limiting blocking was pretty weird, and some colors not getting blockers was pretty stupid,
but choosing between attacking your oppoennt or killing their attackers always felt meaningful.
>>
Creatures can attack any other creature, but that attack can be dodged by the target or blocked by another creature. Blocking and dodging require tapping.
>>
>>51173520
>>51172987
I understand why people like systems where creatures cannot be attacked outright, but I'm also afraid it makes the game too removal-dependent, since a powerful passive effect requires immediate response.

Pod wasn't even that bad, neither was twin. Now they're killing infect. They just kill decks to shake up the meta, not for actual good reasons and it's real frustrating in a format that isn't supposed to rotate. This comes from a guy who had his kiki pod, twin, and suicide zoo deck banned. I want it to stop. Eye of Ugin was the last reasonable ban. Even Grave troll was debatable. Wizards pls stop.

Reminder that all phyrexian mana cards should be banned and that the entire mechanic was a mistake.
>>
Do you guys think burn is going to see a card banned at some point?
>>
>>51166843
I'd say only cards that can be free with phyrexian mana were a mistake. Things like Blessing of Dismember are alright.

Pod is not a healthy card for the format as it just gets better with powercreep. The twin ban, however, marked the point where modern turned to absolute garbage.

My dudes are bunch of bully armour models that count as SoB.
The fluff changes from the order Pissing off the Mechanicus so they don't get the sexy body fitting armour to Inquisitorial Battle Harem just to piss people off.

It is normal power armour just not sexy one. Many Inquisitor visit the Order due to report of men under the church. So lots of Vasquez joke from alien are thrown around.

The Loyalist version of this thread crops up from time to time so let's have one for the Traitors as well since I am both curious and also looking for inspiration.
Which is your favourite Warband, and what about that Warband appeals to you, be it fluff, aesthetics, and/or rules?

>>
Well i like the Death Guard a lot for their slow, unexicted appproach on warfare. The feeling that they are soldiers not warriors. Neither bloody crazy, fanaticaly religious, ironly bitter, psychopathic or loyalist in disguise. It their job but they would as well work as an accountant in the local nurgling factory.
>>
Night Lords. They are different from the others. They didn't rebel due to chaos, but rather they just didn't fit in and were already in trouble pre-heresy. They generally don't embrace chaos, and some disdain mutation so much you could mistake them for loyalists.

Their tactics in the fluff are unlike any other Legion or chapter.

Their lightening armor is cool and very fun to paint.

The NL Omnibus is the best BL book series I've read.

Has anyone played this game? One of my D&D buddies says I should check it out but it just looks like a cashgrab.

>>51163576
No. The game itself isn't all that fun to play and not many people play it. Waste of cash and time.
>>
>>51164637
After I made this thread, I did a search on youtube and found the official tutorial video by the game manufacturer. It made the game seem waaay too convoluted to be fun.
I am having a hard time finding a TCG alternative to MTG that isn't Pokemon/Yugioh etc. worth buying in to.
I'm not sure which is a worse offender of being a cashgrab; Star Wars Destiny or Final Fantasy: Trading Card Game.
>>
I recently got the starters and a couple of boosters. I quite enjoy the game. Its dice, so RNG can screw you (dice manipulating cards manage that to an extent), but is also has it's share of tactics.

I'd suggest you try the starters, maybe a demo game at your LGS.

Fun fact, Destiny nights at my LGS get more attendance than MtG
