What are some fun ideas for a beach adventure?
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
-Sand
-Water
-a place where they meet
-swimsuits, depending on time period
-lotions. Perhaps there is not enough lotion to go around, or a group of muscly barbarians orders the party to oil them.
-hookworms
-volleyball
-undead pirates who got turned around the wrong way and can't figure out how to read their map
-hot babes
-sandcastles
-real castles
-no castles
-surfers
-the plot of Point Break
-elves leering at people
-nude beach populated with fairies. The magical kind, not the homosexual kind.
-a bunch of kids murdering each other with sticks and rocks
-a big dead whale
-traps that are actually just piles of discarded needles half buried in the sand
-giant angry seagulls
-Daniel Craig walking around in the shallows in a grossly undersized speedo
-murderous gooeyducks
-regular ducks
-a tsunami

Muscly Barbarian Raiders are attacking beach goers, stealing their lotion to oil their pecs. The party must defeat the Beach Brobarians in order to return the stolen lotion to the scorching populace

An enormous sandcastle, guarded by crab soldiers, looms over the far end of the beach. None who have ventered there have returned. Dare you attempt to breach into The Keep of Crab Cove?

Undead Pirates have beached their ship, have taken to raiding the local populace while they try to get it unstuck. Because they're undead and bound to the ship, the pirates eternally ressurect every night even when defeated. PC's must unstick the ship and then board the pirate vessel at night to defeat Captain Siltbeard and his vicious band once and for all

A race of magical sentient speedos and bikini's have begun attaching and assimilating the populace. Attempts to remove the alien menace results in horrific pain for the victim, as it is bonded to their junk. Only the magic balm of the great kahuna can remove these parasites, and only the fires of the volcano can destroy them for good.

Trying to get into Go, reading books, doing problems, etc. How do I find people to play with irl when my friends won't? I live in a fairly rural place so it doesn't seem easy. Also is Yellow Mountain Imports about the best quality stuff I can get in the US for reasonable prices?

If you're the kind of person who shits their pants whenever anyone talks too much/too loudly in a social activity based around roleplaying, which seems to be the natural conclusion of you finding 3 groups in a row with absolutely nobody fitting outside that mold (except for you of course), then this hobby might not be for you.

Regardless of what happened, just from that attitude I certainly wouldn't want you at my table. At least not until you'd made an honest effort to remove that stick from your ass.

I've actually had some luck with Roll20, despite what most people on this board think. The key is to be very, very selective before the game starts and to be clear about expectations at the outset.

For example I've had games where I've had about 30 people apply, I granted interviews roughly 15, and ended up with a decent group of 3-4 players at the end.

There is a lot of shit on Roll20, to be sure, but if you put in the effort you can get some good games there.

She's asshurt that she was betrayed as both a Jedi and Sith and projected that into an extreme kind of nihilism.

Does that make her right? Not really. Only the Sith are inherently flawed as their "might makes right" philosophy probably proves to be too self-destructive. The Jedi school of thought provides for long lasting stability and peace for the galaxy.

Broken by periodic intense strife.

I think she was literally correct that opposition breeds strength, but that's because her philosophy and the game mechanics were in alignment.

"I ought to kill you RIGHT NOW." Knives growled. But he didn't, oddly enough, shoot.

His glaring expression gradually changed, and he pulled back his gun. "You know what? Just putting a bullet through your head isn't enough." He said, rather calmly.

"You're healing pretty quickly, aren't you? I don't think bullets can kill you." Knives continued. My leg shifted, my body forcing the bullets out. They rolled on the gravel of the desert. I struggled to breathe. His heel pressed down on my throat.

"Let's see if choking kills you. I'd like to see you die slowly right under my heel."

This would be a hilariously ironic way to go, considering that I killed Kefka this way. But not so funny when you're the one dying.

A gunshot banged. Followed by more shots. Knives was forced to remove his heel as he staggered back. Vash's face was flat in it's expression. Smoke drifted from his white gun.

"Who the FUCK are you, asshole!?!" Katsumi demanded, pointing my Peacemaker in Knives's direction as well. It wasn't smoking. "Get your heel off my MOM'S throat right now."

I scrambled to get up and jumped (yes, jumped) behind Vash and Katsumi.
"How hurt are you?" Vash murmured, not taking his eyes off Knives.

"Be careful. He can activate his Angel Arm now. You can use yours to absorb his, though." I said. "Yeah. I know." Replied Vash.

"Really sorry about taking so long. I had to find that magical cage thing." Katsumi said, patting something in her pocket.

Knives didn't say anything to Vash. He had this, pretty hilarious looking when I think about it, angry twitching expression on his face. His arm started to shift.

"Vash, are you ready?" I asked him. He nodded.

White light filled my sight, and heat overwhelmed my senses.

...Only to fade away. Vash had absorbed the blast with his Angel Arm. Thank god.

Katsumi handed me the Peacemaker. "Get 'im." She said. "I'll throw the cage when he's ready."
I nodded. I aimed the Peacemaker.

>check out the comments to help decide whether to make a purchase or not
>full of people bickering about the realistic way to model half-swording and mordhaus techniques

Oh yeah, I remember that classic Conan moment when upon encounter an enemy in armour, he grabbed his sword by the blade and smashed his head with the pommel. Not like Conan regularly just caves in helmets with the blade by dint of sheer might alone; that would be extremely out of place for a genre as grounded in strict realism as Sword and Sorcery.

So is sword and sorcery just another term like pulp, used to signify that this game isn't D&D, regardless of whether it has shit-all to do with the genre it's supposedly emulating?
24 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>51265441

Sword & Sorcery is a broad term, and one that bubbled up from the murky cauldron of publishers and fandom at that. It's not like it's been nailed down as absolutely excluding any realism.
>>
>>51265622
I would say strict autism simulation is out of character, and certainly isn't offering a game in the vein of Robert Howard, Fritz Lieber, or Michael Moorcock.
>>
It's not like you can smash quality helmets in with the pommel anyway.

Howdy /tg/, I recently acquired a 5E DMG, Player's Handbook, and Monster Manual, and my friends want to play a campaign. Unfortunately, i've never DM'd before, and i'm calling on the wisdom of the elders for some advice for a 1st time DM.

Start building your world and realize your players will only see about 20% of it and also fuck up everything they touch.
>>
Be prepared for the game to last longer than expected. Worst case scenario, you end early and have time to discuss the session.
Players will eventually think outside of the box and do something you didn't prepare for, or even ask a question you don't have an answer to yet. This is where having improv skills can come in handy.
Make sure you know who can and cannot bring/pay for food.

I want to drop some futuristic colonists has the bbeg in a fantasy campaign and I want them to be has menacing as possible while not having them has 'lol eat babies evil'. How would I pull this off?

This sounds hilarious actually.
Stealing this idea.
As far as making them menacing, have some locals the players have run into get in a fight with them and lose badly.
Don't make the entire crew assholes either.

Alright /tg/ I've got a question for ya. So diseases, poisons, toxins, venom, and the like. Thus far literally every game I have so much as flipped through let alone run or play in, has had rules for these things. They vary from shape and size, complexity, and the like, but they all have one.

Yet, I rarely see these things used. Hell half the reason I use them from time to time is just to throw something different at people. Otherwise I will occasionally see them used as a punishment for poor planning.
>Didn't prepare for a forest with known venomous critters by buying literally any medical supplies?
>Ignored a quarantine around a city without also smuggling in hazard gear when you jump the fence
>Plague themed monster or whatever?
>Time limiting factor for a quest/mission and or motivation for such.

That's about my experience with it all. So I have to ask, do you use them more? If so what makes you do so? How do you make them if not fun, then engaging? Because I figure the biggest reason they aren't so common is because "It isn't fun to be sick". If that is the case surely there is a way to make it something more palatable?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>51263876
they work far better as a punishment then as a normal game component
>>
>>51263876

Mostly I use them as an incentive for the players to avoid fights. Game system I play a lot, (Dragonquest) has rules about wound infections, and they can get NASTY. Even a fight that you're sure to win is something that you might not want to deal with if it can be avoided.
>>
>>51263876
No one enjoys being sick, as you said, but I'm sure there's a way to add flavor to them.

>a PC is poisoned, but they have some time to perform a favor for whoever poisoned them in exchange for the antidote
>diseases that grant boons, but have certain costs (i.e. a certain infection that causes your blood to coagulate quickly and wounds seal up faster. Initially it's great, but if you don't get treatment in a few days, your blood is going to coagulate in your veins).

Just off the top of my head.

Before you stand 4 holy men, with 4 very different concepts of morality. They are in a heated argument in which no progress is being made and, realizing this, express each of their arguments to you.

The first believes that morality is primarily external; that the intent does not matter. To him, a man who kills from bloodlust is just as bad as a man who kills in self-defense, but that killing an evil or unimportant man is worse than killing a good or important man.

The second believes that morality is primarily internal; that the intent matters most. He considers accidental or justified death to be entirely blameless, and that hatred and the intent to kill are just as bad as actual murder.

The third believes that morality is primarily based on the future; that a person is good or bad if they are likely to do good things or bad things. To him, a criminal should be punished not because he is guilty of a crime, but because he will likely commit more crimes in the future. However, since the crimes of the past matter little, redemption and penance can be offered to anyone.

The fourth believes that morality is primarily based on the past; that a person is good or bad based on the sum of all their virtues and sins. To him, past crimes can be ignored if the guilty performed an equally noteworthy good deed. A thief need only return what he stole to be forgiven. However, to those who commit murder or other crimes that charity cannot replace are truly unforgivable, and may never be offered redemption.

Having heard each of their arguments, the holy men ask that you end their argument once and for all by judging which morality is the best and which is the worst.
How do you answer them, /tg/?

Declare that they are all fools for seeking simplicity in so complex, and that to indulge them would be wilfully ignorant. Leave them to their fruitless struggle and embrace the nuanced and uncertain nature of things.
>>
No! The morality of man is not a simple construct! It has layers and layers of complexity.
