If I have room, should I always have an elbow and a hand? Even if I never intend to punch and have no weapon in hand?
And where the crits say roll again, does that mean the attacker re-rolls over and over and over until they hit a crit with something in it? Like if I have a Med Laser on the Left Torso, and nothing else. Do they just eventually get a gimme that the Laser is destroyed?
I'm trying to understand why you'd ever put something on an arm instead of packing everything you can into the torso for higher armor and less chance of a specific weapon getting hit because it's alone on the part.
>>51254255
Arm-mounted weapons get a better fire src.
And, if you lack both hands and lower arms, you can flip your arm guns and fire backwards
Is there an alternative to the good old HP bar? I'm going to try an Eastern Front WWI campaign for my m8s, and I don't feel like losing HP would truly represent how deadly guns can be. You're supposed to FEAR being shot, not think "hey, with some luck I can survive two-three bullets"
But how do you solve that? Even with very little HP and very powerful guns I still don't feel like I'm approaching the problem the right way.
>it's another 'OP hasn't played anything but D&D' episode
Dark Heresy does it well. Even one shot will fuck you up. Sure, you might survive, but you're fairly likely to get fucked up from it. Obviously once you factor in armour, powerful weapons, mutations, and daemons it changes it a lot, though. You could take a lot from that OP and keep the ballistics basic with terrible armour and it should work fine. /tg/ loves the critical hit charts from it.
Have a slav for your trouble.

Why is the first post always the most tryhard one?
So can we take a moment to discuss what meta-gaming actually is? Because I just got into an argument with my GM because I used an alchemist fire on a troll and apparently, using common knowledge makes me a "power gaming piece of shit rollplayer" even though HE was the one who called it a troll by name and didn't mention any distinguishing characteristics that would've made it different from the bog standard.
Protip: If it's in the PHB or it's a monster that's CR 5 or less, or something that you call out by name, it's common knowledge or at least knowledge that the PC are expected to know. If it's on someone else's character sheet, the GM's notes, another book that isn't the PHB, or it's a monster that's CR6+ then it's not common knowledge.
Now, is that so hard to figure out? I'm sick of pretending to be a retard just so I don't trigger some shitty GM when I sit down at a table.
>>51241723
If your GM says that it isn't common knowledge, then ask if you can roll a test, if he does say it's common knowledge then you have no issue. This isn't about metagaming, it's about the lack of communication between you two, we're not here to justify that for you.
>>51241723
Meta-gaming is a quick sand trap that idiots argue over. I say idiots because that shit has never mattered and never will. Just play the fucking game.
>>51241723
If you get into an argument with your GM, don't make a whiny thread on /tg/ complaining about it, because it lets us know that your GM was right and you were wrong.
>"Why is Dexterity important to archers and Strength to melee fighters? Actually it should be the opposite. Drawing a warbow requires quite a bit of physical strength and an archer with high Dexterity and low Strength, will have good aim but it doesn't matter anyway because he won't be able to draw the bow in the first place. And if the bow has a low draw weight it will be pretty rubbish since it won't penetrate anything."
>"Now about melee fighters while Strength is important for grappling, dexterity and agility are far more significant. A master fencer was someone who was moving around very fast, ready to attack and then quickly recover and defend. All these skills and abilities that a good melee fighter needs are part of Dexterity. If there's a fight between two warriors, one very agile and of average strength and the other extremely strong but of average agility and all it takes to kill a man is a trust in the neck, who do you think is going to win? Of course it's the agile warrior."
Is he right /tg/?
>>51241195
No he is wrong and a faggot.
I've done archery my entire life, assuming average person is 9-10 in stats as long as said ranger doesn't have shit like an 8 in str you could still draw a bow. Its true in order to pull back a heavier bow, (composites make this a lot easier, but still you can't be weak.) Dexterity matters a lot more in terms of precise aiming, which is what matter in a small company of people aiming at target. Strength only mattered more then dex in armies where your job was to volley arrow after arrow nonstop at the opposing forces ever few seconds. But that ain't what most campaign groups are unless you are playing like 1000 dudes in agincourt.
As for dex more important that str for a fighter I got a simple answer
F = ma .
>>51241195
He doesn't know a lot about RPG games.
~12 Strength is still really strong in fantasy, but still enough for a bow, and I'd expect a bow wielder to have that high of strength anyways.
A master fencer would have whatever iteration of D&D's Finesse feat where he uses Dexterity. His example depends on how well armored each combatant is and blah blah.
>>51241195
>Is he right /tg/?
He's always right. And adorable of course.
I think we need more positivity in the world, anons. I'll go first.
Today's my birthday, so I'm giving everyone ~else~ a gift! A full and complete translation of the Japanese TRPG, Kamigakari. It's been mentioned a few times on these boards, but no one's really gone after it with much zeal.
Well, I got drawn into it last year due to the cool Yoshinori Shizuma art, and then decided I really liked the system too. So, here it is! Let me know what you think.
http://www.mediafire.com/file/183vmgy8b3w1uj3/Kamigakari.rar
This is a 100% complete translation of the core book. Nothing was left out.

Whoops wrong gif
So let's talk about the setting first. Kamigakari is a modern fantasy RPG that fuses together old Japanese mythology elements with newer fantasy elements. Rikizou, the author, stated that he wanted to bring Asian mythology to life with this work, but also incorporate new things in it. Old stuff is like, nekomata being house cats who have lived for 100 years. New stuff is HENSHIN HEROES as well as... well, just look at the second Chaos Mononoke. Just do it, and tell me what you see.
The core of the setting is spirit energy. It exists in everything, living or not. Moreover, there are Shards, which are fragments of the tools of the old gods, and they contain the memories and power of the world itself. A creature's soul, an amalgam of spirit energy, can have a Shard reside within it. If that happens, it becomes an Awakened, a supernatural existence with supernatural power.
There's three types of Awakened. If a human (and 'human' is a broad term in this setting) gets a Shard, they become a Godhunter. If an animal, plant, machine, or some other kind of thing gets a Shard, it becomes a Mononoke, and they may be hostile to Godhunters, or they may not. Finally... there's Aramitama. Aramitama are actually Shards themselves that have become inflicted with malice and negativity and become sentient. They are literally humanity's darkness given form, and they seek to become the Avatar of Ruin and bring humanity's ultimate wish to reality: the end of the world.

Finally feeling like the social system I've been dreaming of forever for my project is starting to click.
>Minor primer
The system setting is a meta-narrativistic one, where story logic is an acknowledged property and interacted with basically like magic. The categorization for types of narratives goes; Good, Evil, Grit, Appeal, Reason, Enigma.
>Social Scenes.
So my idea is that when a properly dramatic social scene occurs, all "sides" of the issue become represented by a disk, and all individual participants by a token or "lot". Each disk has a value for good, evil, grit, appeal, reason, and enigma.
Each character has 4 relevant social stats.
Charm, dignity, and severity are your three ability scores, determining the strength of social actions you take. Ego is kinda social HP and also spent to take social actions
Characters can spend Ego to use the social stats to increase or attack the value of a disk's stat (in the case of attacking a disk, people supporting that disk can roll to defend) The more Ego you spend in a social encounter the more "invested" that character is and thus the more they stand to lose psychologically.
Characters can move their lots to whatever disk they want. And when the social scene ends, they gain all that disks value in XP to their own narrative stats. So the disk they started on may have had its good reduced to -5, and the opposing disk had its appeal brought up to 3. Further, they only invested 4 ego into their disk so they don't have too much to lose. They move their lot to the opposing disk, meaning they will take that disks "side" in the resulting outcome of the scene, bribed by some appeal XP and threatened by the loss of some good.
Things like appearance and culture can affect the kinds of action available and their efficacy (a pretty, cutely dressed woman can use her charm to negatively target the grit of a disk occupied by someone who considers themselves masculine, i.e. "damsel in distress ploy")
Thoughts?
>>51205219
Overall I found this mechanic interresting (specially your "social stamina"), I just fail to see how this "classification system/disk stats" works...
>>51205727
Basically the social combat is a whole lot of posturing for the "audience", the "audience" being the story logic magic specific to the setting. Because story logic is a recognized thing in-setting, people care about how their actions might be perceived from a narrativistic perspective. If the narrative thinks you are evil, someone the narrative thinks of as noble is probably gonna come around and kick your ass. If the narrative thinks your badass, your probably going to be a become a bit of a badass next time you get in a tense situation. If the narrative thinks your cool, your probably going to be able to pull off stylish stunts with smooth ease to impress the real people around you. etc. . .
So the disk stats represent how the narrative will think of people that take that side. Lets go to the archetypal rpg social combat scenario where the players have to convince a guard to let them through a restricted gate.
The guard uses his dignity and tell the players "My duty is to guard this gate, you don't have permission to pass." This is reasonable, and the Narrative now sees his disk as having, say, 5 Reason. One of the players replies that a murderer has escaped over the wall to the other side of that gate, and they must pursue him, but lack the ability to scale the wall. If he doesn't let them through, the murderer will go free. This arguement also uses dignity, but is an appeal to Good, and the narrative now sees the players disk as having 3 good, it also makes the gaurds position seem immoral, standing by rules in the face of clear evil, so his disk now has 2 evil.
The guard doesn't want evil narrative, and he does want good narrative, so he considers switching to the players side. But maybe he will instead escalate the scene, accuse the player of lying and assert that his duty and faith in the guards on this side of the wall is what he will stand by, spending ego and bumping his good and reason higher. So on so forth.

Has anyone ever touched the Alternate Histories in Imperial Histories 1 and Imperial Histories 2? Has anyone ever found the fabled expansion of the Togashi Dynasty?
>>51195982
Nah. My game I run now is in an alternate timeline but that's one based off of the shit the PCs did a century before in setting at the end of a two year game I ran a few years back, but I got some helpful stuff from some of the settings.I actually didn't like the Togashi dynasty one, if any alternate Kami had to get a setting I'd have hoped for Bayushi. I want to see Rokugan where Sengoku Jidai is the norm, not an alternate possible future based on the second Day of Thunder
>>51196100A Bayushi who won would be a very different person with very different methods. Getting smacked in the face by Shinsei and told to lose on purpose really changed him, probably for the better.

Hida Rohiteki I'll give, though she is apparently from d20 edition. YMMV on whether that counts or is disqualified.

Unless you're playing with close friends, talking over the game (besides the game-related calls and basic social necessity) is considered bad manners.
So like, I was explaining to my brother about the kind of tricks you can pull off as a mid to high level wizard in Pathfinder.
You know, how flying becomes a routine thing after you get Overland Flight as well as blinking around once you get Dimension Door and Teleport.
This led him to remark: "So it's kinda like Dragonball Z."
I hadn't thought of it like that, but I feel that's a pretty apt description. I want to what you guys think?
Dangit, a typo. What I meant was:
I want to know what you guys think.
We already knew that, at least those of us who weren't gobbling 3.x cock for the last fifteen years.

It's really, really good. I love it. I hope they release more quest expansions eventually, but it's been almost two years since it came out, so I'm not sure we're getting one.
Anyways, what are some other good tabletop dungeon crawling games?
Preferably card based, but I'm open to any and all board games, really.
Anon, I am so, so sorry, but FF and GW are no longer working together. So we likely will never see an expansion to this game.
I hate to break it to you but this was made by FFG working with GW's license permission. That permission was revoked last year, they can't legally make an expansion.

Tell me all about gaming in the 90s, teegee. What was it like running Vampire, Shadowrun, Rifts and the like?
>>51263756
There wasn't an Internet, so your choices for systems were "what your local store(s) stocks, and the stuff that had enough of a budget to advertise in the TSR and GW magazines".
Much like buying mail-order comics in the '90s, you were kind of shooting blind because unless you read about it somewhere else or knew someone who could tell you about it, there was no way to know if you would like something until you bought it.
There were also several play-by-mail games that had started in the '80s (or earlier) and were still chugging along, with paid GMs who doubled as pen-pals.
You think PbP games are slow-paced...
