Is Calculus 2 easier or harder than Calculus 1? It doesn't really matter because I'm taking it in September either way, but I've heard contradictory things about it. pic unrelated

id say it is easier. but the curriculum may vary.

calculus 2 for me included:
multidimensional differentiation/integration
path integrals
system of ODEs
calculus of variation

but it has been years since i took it so i may have forgotten some stuff.

Both courses felt like baby math to me.

How I see your post:
>Is [math]2+3[/math] easier or harder than [math]8-2[/math]?
>>
Calc1 is foundations
Calc2 goes off on a tangent pun intended
Calc3 is just Calc1 but more in depth

most people think Calc2 is the hardest of the trio

Hey /sci/, this probably isnt the place to post this, but ive been freaking out for over a week now, so first, a little backstory.

3 years ago, while I was a senior in high school, I was taking a year long AP calc course. Lots of things went wrong that year, I was not able to stay in class a whole lot, and as a product, fell behind. So much so that by the end of the first semester, there was pretty much no saving it. I poured my heart out, and while some units I could grab onto and pass, other ones that required some of those earlier units made me fall flat on my face. it was the worst year of my life, and a good chunk of that was because of this class.

Fast forward to now, and its finally time. Ive been taking baby math classes in uni to ease myself into math again, but if I dont take Calc of one variable I and II, I cant get my degree.

I know I should be ready, and that nothing is holding be behind the other tards at my school, but its still giving me crazy anxiety. Im having nightmares about not doing my homework and falling asleep, only to wake up and have my whole life ruined by the class. At work my heart rate has been through the roof, im jumpy, and I feel guilty every time I go anywhere, because I have not done my homework yet.

How do I stop this? How do i control this fear of calculus? classes start next monday.

Can someone explain to me the physics of how those ski jumpers can plummet 400 goddamn feet and not shatter their legs into a thousand tiny bits upon landing?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
They have quite some forward speed and they land on a downward hill, so if you look at it from the reference frame of the ski jumper, the ground is not approaching all that fast.
>>
>>9095202
they're not landing on a horizontal surface, anon. the slope they land on is quite steep, so most of the energy from the freefall gets turned into downward motion instead of shattering their legs
>>
>>9095243

to guarantee that all students have a basic knowledge of calculus, especially about the analysis of elementary real functions in one variable and the usage of finite and infinite series in computer science.

Description:
- Sequences and their limits

- Finite and infinite series and their applications in computer science

- Real functions in one variable

- Elementary functions and their properties

- Derivatives and integration of real functions

- Applications of real functions in one variable in computer science

Does that basic knowledge of calculis mean, it won't be too hard?
Are Paul's online notes a good way to prepare myself?

well i won't lie to you, you have to study and spend some time to get familiar with the epsilons and deltas. But when thats out of the way most of the other subjects are pretty easy. Paul's online notes are fine, never worked out for me though
>>
>>9095245
Okay thanks, that's what I wanted to hear that it is possible if you study
>>
>>9095252
yes of course its possible, in fact if you stay focused and study efficiently until the continuity of functions, you will most certainly enjoy the class as well

Early days still, hard to tell.

The potentials are shown to be there but the question is if we can
- make flawless CNT on a macroscopic scale
- position CNT with sub micron accuracy and precision on chips
- control structure of CNT to select between conductor or semiconductor
- interface CNT reliably with other materials.

Schoen was involved in this and all that had to be junked when he was caught pants down. What a mess. And the problem remains hard.

Also: Si has decades worth of head start which will take a long time to catch up with. that is why Si has beaten GaAs in many applications.

Was that pill red enough for you?

Let [math]f:\mathbf{R}\to\mathbf{R}[/math] be some function and [math]a_n[/math] a sequence such that for every [math]n[/math] [math]a_n=f(n)[/math]. How to show that [math]lim_{n\to\infty} a_n=lim_{x\to\infty}f(x)[/math], where on the LHS [math]n[/math] ranges over naturals and on the RHS [math]x[/math] ranges over reals?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9095101
yes.
>>
>>9095101
You can't because that's wrong.
>>
>>9095101
Consider [math]f(x) = \sin(x \pi)[/math].
Then [math]a_n = 0[/math] for all [math]n[/math] but [math]lim_{x\to\infty}f(x)[/math] does not exist.

Does anyone else find it kinda strange to study from ebooks? I have most books from the sci wiki but I honestly prefer buying the actual physical copies. Even with my lecture notes, I prefer printing them out and then studying from them. Is there a way to make pdfs more like physical books, ie able to bookmark, highlight, scroll easily, Maybe I'm just autistic and/or shit at adobe reader.

I guess you can not name bookmarks, and the file has to be saved as a new pdf

safer and better than adobe though

my only issues with ebooks is that I worry somebody might have changed small details in it just to troll

Bullshit. If you want to get the most out of a book marking words and making notes ist necessary.

So I had a question /sci/

I'm starting to read a book on quantum computing and was wondering, is it possible to build a simple computer at my house? If so, what would I need to know? If not why?

I'm a physics major, with a CS and math minor. About to enter my last year. I want to build one for a proof of concept. Make it just add, subtract, multiply, and divide. I know there are companies like D wave working on this but I'd like to learn. And I assume they are farther along than this.

Riddle me this, /sci/: can/could you teach/instruct and artificial intelligence to meditate? I'm thinking about both the future theoretical possibility as well as the proto-AIs we have now.

Now, obviously it’s a broad question because there are different ideas about what "meditation" is and what would constitute a genuine AI. But if you look at it in a general way, with meditation being the generic "meditation aims at sustaining a single-pointed concentration, clearing the mind” and “being awake inside without being aware of anything except awareness itself", would that be possible with a consciousness that is inherently disembodied?

If an AI is truly “disembodied”* and by its nature has broken the cycle of death and rebirth (if one were to take the Buddhist stance), then wouldn’t a true AI be an enlightened consciousness that has attained Nirvana right from the get-go?

*yeah the AI obviously has to reside on some tech, so it’s not totally free from the physical, but it is free from the pain and suffering that are intrinsic to bodily existence.

What would the AI’s mantra be?

Keep your dumas thoughts to yourself or else you're gonna get hit. Thi's thread means nothing. You think your thoughts have some sort of depth but this subject in and of itself means nothing. Theres no substance. Meditation means nothing and coming up with some idea to implement it into robots mean's even less.
