i have a feeling i already know the answer but is FTL travel possible as we have seen it in sci fi movies/tv shows.
im talking about being able to "jump" from location to location over hundreds of thousands of miles without worrying about slamming into asteroids or planets along the way?
would this even be practical with how much fuel/ power it would need? not to mention the act of slowing down from that speed in the vacuum of space?
what kind of effect would this even have on the human body?
Not possible, it's a scifi meme invented to shorten distances between locations for storytelling purposes
Hundreds of thousands of miles is absolutely nothing even within solar system, that's why AU and light years are used
Space is not like in star wars, it's incredibly unlikely to hit anything even if you go through asteroid belt because of how empty it is
FTL isn't possible no matter what semantic framing you use. As a result the answers to your questions are whatever you feel like, because you're in the land of make-believe already

Because of relativity FTL is equivalent to time travel. FTL, relativity, causality, pick two.
How far off are we for real permanent cures for (currently) uncurable diseases like diabetes, cancer (and all its different iterations), AIDS, etc.
A better question is when will we cure retardation.
>>9104320
A better question is when will (((they))) will stop suppression of science
>>9104349
(((Big pharma))) indeed is holding back science while pretending to be an ally. However, I wonder if we'll see any real cures in the next decade or so...

theoretically speaking, what could be alternative ways of inhaling tobacco flavour and nicotine from REAL tobacco without burning it?
when i say theoretically i'm saying that the device doesn't have to be currently manufactureable or profitable in any way, just possible in theory
unleash your fantasy and knowledge /sci/
>>9109676
Apply enough heat to vaporize it but not burn it just like weed. Nicotine evaporates well under the flash point, and for maximum flavor, go with something fit for a pipe but don't cheap out.

Biochem question, is it possible to murder someone through withdrawl? Some kind of compound or chemical that could be introduced unnoticed, built up in a persons system and then once the chemical was withheld would cause severe adverse reactions and even death?
I'm sure this has been done before, also, would it show up in a standard autopsy?
Pic unrelated

Dumb question about particles and stuff. Quarks cannot exist alone, because the necessary energy to do so would spawn more of them before they break free (or something).
But wouldn't inflation be capable of causally disconnect those quarks, thereby freeing them? What makes primordial free quarks impossible?
>>9109051
assumedly more quarks would still spawn...
thus making more matter and antimatter...
and starting the big bang again???
A free quark can't be free for a long since it starts pulling out particles or anti particles out of the vacuum and binds with them.
>>9109160
And where does the energy to do so comes from? Particles are not free, I think.

Am I going to be barred from using the women's restroom now that the scientists have said that transgenderism is a mental disorder and not a biological difference? I thought the brain scan showing i had a female brain would be irrefutable evidence...

Transgenderism was always a quack pseudoscience with it's actual roots in hormonal problems and schizophrenia.

I just turned 20 a month ago. Since i was about 18 i've gone through a handle (1.75ltr) of hard alcohol (usually sailor jerrys or E&J) about every week or a little less. I usually drink most heavily right before bed, but since i work an irritating customer service orientated job i find myself going through a flask at work every now and then.
I know drinking this much is probably bad for me but was wondering if anyone could tell me the kind of permanent damage im doing to myself. Keep in mind im a 6'1 male about 150lbs, i dont do any other drugs or substances not even weed.
>>9108518

A handle over a week isn't that much.
