Whats the fastest object of "significant" mass (lets say more than 1 gram), that has been observed in our atmosphere, either man made or natural? Has anything "significant" ever breached triple digit mach in atmosphere?

Probably meteorites.

so something like 20 to 40 km/s?

Probably that manhole cover during that underground nuke test. Some of the more generous estimates put it at escape velocity.

I don't understand how dead downwind faster than the wind works. I've seen people explaining it by saying the energy actually comes from the wheels, and the propeller is pushing the cart forward, but where does the excess energy come from that makes it go faster than the wind? I'm probably missing something but no idea what.

Sounds like perpetual motion. It must have been explained wrong. This usually happens when the exlpainer him/herself doesn't understand the mechanics.

and dead upwind faster than the wind works too

If you took two identical slabs of freshly hardened concrete and poured X amount of water on one with the average pressure of a person pouring water from a bucket to a surface ~3 feet below said bucket and set an ice cube made of X amount of water on top of the other and let it melt which slab of concrete would erode the most?

I would figure the ice cube'd slab because it's being wet for a much longer period of time but it's still the same amount of water right?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
The first. Erosion by water is caused by a combination of the amount of water and the velocity of it. With the quantities matched, the added velocity is going to provide extra erosion.

It's also worth noting that repeated freeze-thaw cycles can crack concrete and significantly speed up erosion, but in your case it's just going to be a single cycle and probably won't have much effect.

That's a pretty intuitive answer that makes sense to me, thanks anon.

Well that got resolved

Now what do we do next?

Where exactly is the data that suggests slavery somehow damages the expression of intellectual potential in the genome? I'm curious.

I've been having a lot of debates about all sorts of things recently - politics, psychology, anthropology, economics and so on - and by the time I bring up statistics and studies, the other party argues that all studies can be subject to fraud and manipulation, and at that point all I can do is fight anecdotes with anecdotes.
First of all I'd like to know how to rebut this claim, but even if I can get people to give up this line of thinking, the fact that a study could have been tampered with remains. What safety measures exist to ensure the authenticity of a study and how can I make sure a study is legitimate - that is, if the numbers haven't been adjusted or important details not been omitted?

If it replicate can be trusted. Just like studies about Einstein Theory of Relativity.
Psychology by other hand rarely replicate, so cannot be trusted.

Replication = redo the experiment with same results by different research groups.
>>
>>9105294
make sure it comes form a reputable journal and I guess make sure it's a couple years old so there's been some time for other papers to reanalyze the claims, and check for said papers either corroborating or disagreeing with the original paper
>>
>>9105313
Couldn't someone argue that the replicating group matched their numbers to artificially confirm the results? I know this is going into conspiracy theory, but I'd like to cover my bases.

>>9105320
I think I'm gonna have to start documenting my go-to studies and their authors and keep them handy on my phone. "I read in a study from a university" isn't cutting it anymore.

Why is only the first diode conducting (the diodes are assumed to be ideal)?

This is from Sendra/Smith book, and I've found the solutions manual, but it only says 2 and 3 are off. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why. Searched around for similar problems, but there are only explanations with binary inputs, not like this.

Little nudge in the right direction please?

If the points labelled +2V and +1V weren't blocked with diodes, the current would flow from +3V to them. Since they are blocked by ideal diodes, there is no current there. There is a +1V and +2V voltage jump from left to right over the diodes, respectively.
>>
>>9105191
Just found a guy on youtube on some obscure page doing this exact problem. He says if all of the diodes conducted, the point to the right of them would have indicisive voltage, so only one can conduct.

Why couldn't it be the sum of all voltages?

Am I right to think that if that point was 6V by summing the voltages, then the diodes wouldn't be foward biased, so they'd be off?
>>
>>9105200
Am I misinterpreting your explanation... Wouldnt that mean that the resulting voltage on the right side would be +6V?

Prove you're not a brainlet and prove that it is possible to colour a dodecahedron's edges with 3 colours so that
1. Three edges of the same colour form a line going through two vertices.
2. That line then cannot meet with any more with lines of the same colour.

Can someone show me how to do this. I have total height and width but I need to know lengths of the inside x
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>9105169
there is something missing - if you have say a trapeze and know the length of the parallel sides and the height, then you can still translate one of the parallel sides which doesn't change the height, but the lengths of the diagonals (the "x").

Simple, because like all of the other rich guys out there into this shit, he is a business man. He doesn't understand these topics. Rich people surround themselves with smart people to get shit done for them (not saying he isn't intellegient). Since they possess leadership and people skills, they can form these big companies and accomplish great things.

Eventually, these dumbasses start to think they underdtand every aspect of science from economics to solar powered dildos and go preaching as if they are some sort of saint. No, A.I. won't program itself EVER to be malicious or take over the world. Any slapdick who took a class in computer science/programming knows this. No computer has the emotional know how (and will never) to try and make itself sentient and overthrow it's creator. That's movie-tier bullshit.
