formal langauge theory noob here. I've been hung up on the idea that all context free grammars are also regular grammars. Or that more specifically all CFGs can be represented as FAs without the need of pushing and popping as seen with Push Down Automata.

Here is an example of a CFG that is not a regular grammar:
[math] (a^n)c(b^n) [/math]
But can't I represent this as an FA as seen with the pic to the left? Where am I wrong here.

Do you understand what "finite" means?
>>
>>8530378
aren't all expressions finite though? Context free and otherwise?
>>
>>8530396
The "finite" in "finite automaton" means that it has a finite number of states.

God fucking dammit

Freshman year: be engineering major, realize I hate engineers and move onto chemistry because I did well in gen chem in the summer.

Sophomore year: be chemistry major, realize I don't find chemistry as interesting as my physics classes I'm taking, so I switch to physics major before the end of the second semester.

Junior year: be physics major, realize that physics is cool, but I'm actually way better than math and I'm finding it a lot more interesting than physics. This is where I currently am (one week left of the fall semester).

Should I just kill myself already?

Hi sci.

Can you explain me basic concept of Lie group and why is it important? I Have started reading about it but still hadn't come to motivation and I want to know if I'm finding it interesting (since the book starts with matrices lie group).

Is it true that it merges term of continuity with discrete algebraicoperation? Definition on wikipedia gave me that insight

Just got introduced to it in classical field theory class, all I know is that a Lie group is a continuous group. And I think they are subdivided in orthogonal groups and unitary groups, that's all i know, hope it was helpful bye
>>
>>8530298
You are going to tell us lie groups are continuous groups but are not going to tell us what continuou means in this context?

This is why I hate physics cucks.

I know you all think you're smart as shit even if you waste it doing normal jobs that don't involve research so i'm wondering...

were your parents smart? what do they do for a job? do you think you inherited it from them?

mom worked in a textile factory for about 32 years, no pay raise other than legal minimum wage. recently got citizenship but retired (64 years old). Dad was a depressed construction worker, than lived of his social security benefits before passing away due to ill health. Neither seemed above average in intelligence, maybe my dad. I usually score in the 120's in IQ test. Suck at math and study ecology. I'm not that smart compared to other people in the sciences, but i do think I'm smarter than them, maybe got it from my grandfather since he seems to have been successful in agriculture in Mexico, and I have cousins from that side that teach trig at the college level in Mexico. No one else in my family really has done anything big, neither parent finished elementary school.

Is "organic" a meme? What about pasteurization?

>Eat organic fruits and vegetables!
>No, that's not necessary. The pesticides aren't harmful and don't make a difference.

>Almonds are given propylene oxide. Buy organic almonds which are steam treated!
>No, the PPO is fine because it's a safe amount.

>Fruit juice doesn't have nutrients unless it's organic, cold-pressed, not from concentrate.
>No, even organic cold-pressed juice doesn't have nutrients because it's still pasteurized. Only eat actual fruits.

I hear so much different shit.

if you're confused, then take a biology class and or learn what artificial evolution is. so you can see why there is a disagreement and the rational of the side against the organic movement.
>>
>>8530478
Yeah, I'm actually taking a Biology class next semester. But I figure I'd ask here first to see what people had to say about it.

Hey anons,

simple question for you.
I have multiple scatter plots and I want to know which of the plots are the most similar.

Right now I test be just the mean distance of multiple "test points" but there has to be something better.

If they are the same functional form, you could just try comparing their regression equations. Maybe you could take the difference of their slopes, intercepts, etc
>>
Isn't there some kind of equation I can put some (10000) sample points in and calculate a difference factor?
Like ...for n from 1 to 10000 do sum(|f(n)| - |f2(n)|)/10000. This is what I do right now but there has to be some "better" way to do it.

We actually don't know enough about intelligence to determine if it can be positively changed or not.

We do know that geniuses have better concentration abilities than everyone else though.

Hey guys,

so in the last video on Halloween I (we?) decided to go on a tangent and do some C++ (because only 3 people were reading into the robotics book but I got more feedback from the CS side).
I got this book "Accelerated C++", and it's also available as a pdf, see below. I'm gonna continue with that and will post here with the vids like I did with the robotics book.

http://irpp.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2014/04/Andrew-Koening-and-Barbara-E.-Moo-Accelerated-C++.pdf

That's relatively old (13 years or so), so it doesn't contain C++11 and C++14 updates, but the ranty vids are gonna involve some more general tasks like they did previously, so we'll see more than those 300 pages.
Later

Why the hell is Art of Electronics there? It's mostly a reference book with good stuff in there for electronics people who have already learned their shit. For beginner reading you'd be better off with something like Introductory Circuit Analysis by Boylestad (not saying this is the best, but the one I had and it was alright). Also not saying that you can't learn from AoE as a beginner but I'd say it's not a book for beginners if you truly want to learn stuff.

This,

Make a list of very simple things you'd like to do that day, start with the very basic things first: breakfast, lunch, dinner, exercise, fap, etc. then once you're familiar with that routine add more. Don't try to just jump into the schedule of a Fortune 500 CEO, you'll burn out.

Why can't I recall material that I've learned in previous years. All my knowledge after Calculus 1 often falters, and even though I excelled in classes like multivariable calculus I can't do a surface integral if I was asked to now. Is there any way to remember material I've learned?

I'm still an undergrad, but I often see people here on /sci/ and some of my professors in college talk about various math topics with ease, and sometimes I'm saddened that I've forgot so much. Am I setting too high of an expectation with myself for wanted to retain all I've ever learned?
