He's HUD because he's black.
>He was the Director of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Maryland from 1984 until his retirement in 2013. As a pioneer in neurosurgery, Carson's achievements include performing the first and only successful separation of Siamese twins joined at the back of the head, pioneering the first successful neurosurgical procedure on a fetus inside the womb, performing the first completely successful separation of type-2 vertical craniopagus twins, developing new methods to treat brain-stem tumors and reviving hemispherectomy techniques for controlling seizures.[3][4][5][6][7] Carson became the youngest chief of pediatric neurosurgery in the country at age 33.[8] He has received more than 60 honorary doctorate degrees, dozens of national merit citations, and written over 100 neurosurgical publications.[9] In 2008, he was bestowed the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award in the United States.[10]
He believes in the Jesus Christ myth.
how do people rationalize one of the top neurosurgeons not believing in evolution?
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world doctors had to be smart (the devil was a doctor).

Doctors aren't really scientists, unless they're doing medical research like a MD / PhD. Doctors can be brilliant people, but they often don't have a deeper understanding of biological concepts than your average Biology undergraduate. This is because medicine is a lot of memorization and repetition in order to diagnose and treat patients. You only have to know the information critical to treating patients, you don't need to understand the underlying mechanisms of cell biology or evolution in order to practice medicine.
This is especially true for surgeons, who I see as more like medical engineers rather than biologists.
t. Someone who's father is a surgeon who is brilliant in his field (cardio-thoracic and vascular surgery), but dumb as a brick outside of it when it comes to other scientific ideas / concepts.

For some reason, that tends to hold true for anyone in any field. Always boggles my mind.
