When you start down the path of causal reductionism you don't get to draw a circle around any particular event arbitrarily.
Really, the best you can do is concede some amount of absoluteness and settle for whatever the most reliable explanation is given a practical set of heuristics. Which leads us to a place where we can see that some events have larger immediate effects than others.
A car crash or obesity will have much more of an effect on your reproductive success than reading a sentence. So it would be a bit silly to blame your failure on the text in the op.
