Hey /sci/
I'm looking to start learning math from ground up up until college level.
Anyone has any books they recommend? Preferably in order, I don't mind sitting hours on end studying.
Thanks a bunch.
literally khan
>>8525390
So just hours of videos and interactive problems?
I'd prefer books and pdfs with clear explanations if that's possible because I don't have a Computer, but I do have quite a large pdf reader.
>>8525384
Wanting to do the same as you OP. I have been using Pauls's online notes and would recommend using those to you, but as for books i have no idea so also interested in seeing responses to this.
What is the difference between category theory, group theory, and set theory?
If they aren't fucking synonyms I'm going to beat up a math professor (I would have said shoot up a math class but I don't want the FBI breaking down my door. Now that I've said that let me say I plan to neither beat up a math professor nor shoot up a math class.) Because that shit is ridiculous.
>>8525356
>cs major detected
category theory studies objects and arrows between them
group theory studies symmetries
set theory studies sets
They are completely different.
That being said your professor probably just wanted you to shut up and stop asking pedantic questions so he could teach the class and go home.
mean?
It means "I hate white people"

>It seems like Elon is the only one attempting to leave Earth before 2020.
Will it take us another 200 years to send humans outside of our solar system?
>>8527547
honesty it's pretty easy to send someone out of the solar system. The "problems" are.
Bringing them back.
Whats worth sending someone out there.
Why cant a sensor robot go
muh safety
In the early days of jets, rockets, and space flight the guys that were flying were daredevils who got pushed to the limit. No reason not to be on the moon right now.

There's nothing worthwhile outside of earth you cockmuncher.

Do photons exist inside an electron, well, or in any fermion, lepton, that can emit, absorb this package of energy?
Photons are electrons
>>8527328
Yes; this is why electrons have lower energy levels as they get closer to the nucleus. Once the photons excape from the inside of the electrons, the electron loses mass, and therefrom momentum. Since it loses momentum, it also loses kinetic engergy, resulting in the n=1 energy level being the lowest. glad i could help
>>8527341
oh wow, but about that loses mass, aren't photons massless, particles without mass, what do you mean by that when a photon leaves and electron, electron loses mass?
If 2+3×4=14 then how come 2+3×4÷2=8? Shouldn't it be 7?
this is the worst thread i have ever seen
2+3x4÷2≠(2+3x4)÷2
>>8527199
I just want to know. I was never very good at math.
we talk about how the GOAT physicist is Newton
the GOAT mathematician is Gauss
so who the GOAT chemist?

Chemistry is the most beta science.
>>8526827
I disagree, biology is more of a beta science. Chemistry is actually fun at least.
There was a poster here a couple of months ago who thought dinosaurs coming from birds was a conspiracy and feathered dinosaurs was a meme. Just to say look at this! amazing.

invent time travel or fuck off op -- oh wait not even that will work because it might just be an interdimensional portal to some universe where your gay jewish science crap is true
It's just teenagers who want them to look like giant scary lizards with giant scary teeth rather than big chickens.
Come to think of it... why DO plucked birds look so much like lizards with beaks and soft skin?

how many years until no living person has been to the moon?
>>8525265
The last guy to walk on the moon is 81, so soon.
>>8525265
oh fug, Glenn didn't walk on the moon
the question still stands
I reject both that things exist and that things do not exist.
Proof me wrong.
>protip: You literally can not.
>>8524560
Try killing yourself. That should clear some things for ya.
Well there patterns everywhere and laws of nature seems to operate systematically in well defined ways, so clearly some things exist and are objective.
Your claim is unfalsifiable and therefore it is not scientific

Otherwise Zeno's arrow paradox cannot be solved. To reinstate quickly what the "paradox" is:
- An object traveling from A to B has to pass point C, which is 1/2way between A to B. This is of course experimentally observable
- An object traveling from C to B has to pass point D, which is 3/4 way between A to B and halfway between C to D. This is of course experimentally observable
- An object traveling from D to B has to pass point E, which is 7/8th way between A to B and halfway between D to B. This is of course experimentally observable
So on and so on.
The paradox is not solvable without the concept of limits where 1/infinity = 0. This is also the foundation in which Newtonian calculus is built on. Seems like a irrefutable empirical evidence for the concept of mathematical infinity
>>8524089
Nope. Godel's Incompleteness Theorem implies that the axiom of infinity is inconsistent.
>>8524100
How would one solve Zeno's arrow paradox then? Without the concept of limits, the arrow would never reach B as it goes infinitely close to B in [(2^n)-1]/(2^n)
>>8524089
>without the concept of limits where 1/infinity = 0
dafuq anon? do know how a limit works?
What can an average joe like me do to help make this happen? Free blowjobs? I'll do anything. (But seriously, what could the average brainlet do, if anything?)

>Germany’s New Machine Brings Us Leaps Closer to Nuclear Fusion
http://www.ibtimes.com/nuclear-fusion-germanys-wendelstein-7-x-stellarator-operating-expected-2456267
>Currently, the approach toward testing the viability of nuclear fusion involves using either a tokamak or a stellarator. A tokamak — one of which is currently being tested by researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center — is a doughnut-shaped device that can contain high-energy plasma using two-dimensional magnetic fields created by a ring of magnets. On the other hand, the stellarator — whose design is still largely untested — performs the same function using twisted, 3D magnetic fields.
>The world’s largest stellarator is currently being operated by the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics in Germany, and researchers have now revealed that the extraordinarily complex device is functioning as expected.

I hate chemistry so fucking much. There no fucking logic on it, you're forced to memorise shit. Now memorise this crap, oh but wait there's a billion of exceptions you need to know. I hate even more than biology. Why the fuck my uni forces me to have chemistry in the first semester of my physics degree.

Makes more sense than physics at the very least.
