Hello /sci/. I fucking hate Optimization, the topics are uninteresting and the lecturer is boring as all hell. However, I have to learn it sooner or later because the course is part of my curriculum. The topics are Linear Programming, Integer Linear Programming, P vs NP, and some graph optimization. What are the best resources to git gud? I have 6 weeks until the exam.
Just optimize your learning
>>8531005
u tube has a full few course
there will be vids for every section in your book
it is your interest to learn the material as it is some of the most practical math you can learn as is numerical analysis

Do you have a specific youtube channel in mind?
1) The incentives favour incremental advances of questionable utility over asking the truly difficult questions.
2) Statistics is hard, and most people don't get it. The people that do, generally don't do much empirical science.
3) Negative results are not published.

Corroboration, mainstream science is on the back-foot.
how long does it take to recover from porn adiction?
>>8530330
logarithmicly proportional to thr number of days away from it.
(Your mind) = (number of porn avoided)*lg(days)
>>8530330
There's no such thing as porn addiction, at least not in the same sense as nicotine, heroin, alcohol, etc.
>>8532225
addiction is a spectrum. just because there is no physiological dependency does not mean you can't call certain habits addictions. addiction is defined by a habit that impacts your life in an undesirable way
Do all of the non-trivial roots of the Riemann zeta function have real part 1/2?

That's the million dollar question.
:^)
why did we devolve in every way except intelligence compared to monkeys?
>less durable
>less strength
>less agile
>shit feet
>>8529610
>devolve
please dont perpetuate this meme. evolution is only change to fit a niche.
biologically speaking, millions of years of genetic drift produced incrementally smarter hominids, who were able to survive and reproduce more than those who were merely robust.
>>8529610
Because evolution is random.
To create balance in the universe. Evolution is there to create balance. If we had all the strength, durability, intelligence, etc then we would destroy everything and we would be the only ones on Earth. If we were the only ones on Earth then Earth will start dying then we would die and there would be nothing left on Earth.
Is this book a meme? I want to go back to learning math and I have a copy lying around. I was wondering if it was worth my time or if I should use another book.
a + 0 = a
a + b = b + a
(a + b) + c = a + (b + c)
a + (-a) = 0
a * 1 = a
a * b = b * a
(a * b) * c = a * (b * c)
Given a != 0, then a * 1/a = 1
ax + bx = (a + b)x
x^a * x^b = x^(a + b)
(x^a)^b = x^(ab)
If xy = 0, then x = 0 or y = 0
Here you go. No need to read that book. Just memorize that top group of rules, and if you're feeling up to it, the second group as well, but they can just be derived, so they're really not as important.

By autistic mess, I'm talking about blissfull social unawareness.
The kind of shit that pushes people to do this kind of shit
>>8529155
You'd think people with powerful reasoning skills would be able to pick up social cues faster than any other individual. But it's not the case. Instead, they become social parias, known as 'nerds' or 'dorks'.
Why is it that academia makes people completely socially retarded and emotionally stunted?
>>8529257
Social charm is an ability not learned from a text book but rather from real world situations.
Introverts would spend less time interacting with others and perhaps would have a stunted sense of charm.
There is also the fact that intellectualism might bore most social butterflies.
WolfieCindy
>>8529257
You have it backwards.
These men and women are not socially retarded.
The "normals" are retarded and conforming to their favored social protocol causes intelligent minds to either suppress their intellect, for the sake of the cattle, which usually comes off as awkward unless they are especially practiced at this (I don't know why anyone would want to be), or they come off like self-aggrandizing jackasses whose sentences can't be understood by the troglodytes with whom they are trying to fit in. This ultimately results in their marginalization and labeling.
I'm just spit balling here, but, c'mon, apply your mind a little here and it is obvious why the men and women at the top of Academia don't fit in with the herd. Their interests are completely ill-aligned.
Note: The tattoos are not a product of success in academics. They are a product of not taking the time to understand the philosophical and anthropological implications of tattoos, and, thus, being susceptible to the meme.
Why are scientists so committed to spreading the idea of climate change? I thought scientists wanted to spread the truth
Because it's happening you illiterate motherfucker, it's people like you that makes it hard for science to reach the general public.

You Anon are driving a pick up tuck with speed of (Vo), and you got you're fat pig gf in the back, if the static friction between her fat ass and your truck is equal to (u)...
How long can truck stop before your gf's fat slides along the back of the truck?
Merican education....

As long as the truck acceleration doesn't exceed uN/m she should be fine

no, make sure to rub it on your head as well to give it the extra static charge boost
I have a question. Ive I'm outside looking in the exact same direction at the exact same time as the night before at the sky, am i looking at the same star as i was the night before?
>>8531265
Most likely yes.
>>8531265
for stars that is pretty much true, but keep in mind that some of the dots you're seeing are planets, which do move quite a bit in 24 hours time. Taking those in account (and also earth satellites obviously), the visible stars don't move much at all.
>>8531265
download google sky map and point it at the star to get its name and constellation
Is it worth it to try to convince normies out of their pseudoscientific beliefs?(i.e. astrology, homeopathy, etc) Or will it just makes me look euphoric? Also is it worth to look euphoric in order to convince them?

What other math classes should I take? I've taken calc 1-3 and discrete now. My major only requires these 4, stats, and a math for engineers class, which seems to just be differential equations and complex analysis, but I see top programs (I'm at state u) do require a little more.
Other options im considering are linear algebra (bits of it are included in engineering math), abstract algebra (linear algebra is a prerequisite), and real analysis, but will they be useful at all for EE?
>>8530600
Linear algebra for sure. I'm a little baffled this isn't required for your degree.
>>8530602
Guessing it's because of time restrictions. A lot of the kids who intend to major in engineering at my state U start in pre calculus or trig, as my state state has one of the worst public education systems in the United States.
I, myself, started in remedial algebra (as in, algebra 1 taught in hs)
>>8530600
Linear algebra certainly. At least some familiarity is expected everywhere. Besides that I don't think engineers in general use much advanced math. Maybe some complex analysis for computing integrals and methods for solving differential equations. Abstract algebra and real analysis are unlikely to be useful because they're rigorous math which I don't think engineers care about. I would ask a professor of engineering that you suspect needs math.
For a group that has closure, associativity, a neutral number and an opposite number in relation to action *
It's known that if a*c = b*a then c=b
How do you prove that there'scommutativity?
It feels right intuitively but I can't really formulate it
Okay I think I got it
a*c=b*a
c=(b*a)*a-1 (opposite of a)
c = b*(a* a-1 ) because of associativity
c=b
can someone assure this is right?
>>8531299
let x be the inverse of a and e be the neutral element
a*c = b*a implies c=b iff
a*c*x = b*a*x implies c = b iff
a*c*x = b implies c = b
if a*c*x = b implies c = b then
a*c*x = c
but c is equal to e*c which is equal to a*x*c* so
a*c*x = c = a*x*c so
a*c*x = a*x*c
cancel a from the left to get c*x = x*c
Now, assuming that in the original equation a, b and c are arbitrary members of the group then this ends the proof as c is an arbitrary member of the group and x is a member that depends on the arbitrary member a, so x itself is also arbitrary, so this last equations is basically an equation that asserts commutativity.
>>8531303
>can someone assure this is right?
It isn't.
>>8531303
>c=(b*a)*a-1 (opposite of a)
This is weird. In the left you had a*c but then you canceled a which means that you multiplied a-1 on the left of c, which means that it should be also multiplied to the left of b to get
a-1*a*c = a-1*b*a
c = a-1*b*a
and there associativity wouldn't help you.
tldr, you cannot do what you just did because you can't multiply to the left on one side and to the right in another side because that is basically commutativity so you would be assuming what you seek to prove.
When did science become so based on emotion?
>>8530926
Specifically what are you referring to here?
>>8530926
The climate change meme because it's not really science, it's political football and religious pseudo earth worship. This meme is infecting and tainting all legitimate fields of science a little more every day, pushing an oxymoron we call consensus science.
