Got a new canon powershot sx50 for crimbus, any opinions on the camera from an experienced photographer
>>2731562
bridge cameras are shit, but if you're good, you can still take okay photos in good light, with a great subject
>>2731562
You will need a bunch of film canisters for it. Also be careful not to expose the mirrors to direct sunlight.
It's an okay camera if you learn to properly use it.
>>2731563
this
waste of money imo OP
So I got one of these Konstrucktor DIY film
cameras
Great little build, very excited to use it but I've only ever used a DSLR.
Any advice for a film novice.??
Also anyone have one of these cameras and whats your opinion or share some shots

I got one for christmas as well
It's a fun little toy
One problem I've had was that the film counter doesn't work properly and it seems to tear the sprocket holes.
Anyways I wouldn't use this for any serious shots, maybe at a party or something. Take fun pictures and then print them out and hand it to people the day after or something.
>>2731548
They're great for decoration. Not for taking pictures. The point of the Konstruktor is to be entertaining when you're building it, not to actually be a functional camera.
Buy a cheap Zenit for $5 and have some fun shooting.
Why do we not have recurring technique discussion threads when we have gear threads and recent photo threads?
To start out, I am happy today because I managed to take a photo @ 1/15 shutter speed and 200mm focal length hand-held that wasn't just blurred out. Trying to improve the steadiness of my hand. The lens did have VR, but Nikon's only accounts for 3 stops... so it's way below the recommended minimum for that focal length. I found out that each lens has to be held differently to be stable enough for the VR to make any difference in a situation like that. This opens a door to a whole new realm of practicing my hand.
Now it's your turn. Let's discuss techniques, both for shooting and post-processing.

a good rule is 1/focal length as your handheld shutter speed )before lens stability comes into play)
so, a 100mm lens should be handheld at 1/100s shutter speed minimum, unless you're pretty steady. This is really helpful.
>>2731238
That is true. What I am practicing now is my ability to take sharp still images below that limit hand-held, mostly without any movement in them. As you said, "unless you're pretty steady"... well, I want to become pretty steady.
I think it's a good kind of self-torture that also benefits me in times when I do have enough light to stay above them. Nothing worse than a shaky photographer.
Hi, I was cleaning stuff around the house and I found a Kodak Star 110. I have no idea how it works but I want to know where I can find film for it. Thanks.

a 110 cam was like the first camera I owned and boy did that camera suck
>mfw i wanted to buy this one because it was pretty cheap
>but didnt because the cover is horrendous
why a cover like that is allowed at all? in a book of art, of all things.
Taschen makes much better photography book mate. Just grab something else.

Alright, im a 4 year vet who shoots with a 60d, some decent to good glass, i shoot people for newpapers and realty....
I have to over compensate on my 430ex flash with a gary fong diffuser to make up for the poor iso performance....
I need more iso so i can go lighter on the flash...
The 7d mark 2 and the 6d are the same price, Is a full frame sensor able to capture available natural light better then an apc?
I only have one l series lens and a lot of lenses that the 6d cant use so im leaning to the 7d mark 2 right now.... however, if full frame sensors are better and capture more accurately, should i go with a 6d then?

how hard is it to look it up yourself?
Obviously the 6d is a better long term investment, significantly better in low light too.
Sounds like you need to get yourself some fast prime glass, or learn to use your flash off camera. ISO performance should be a last resort fix, when comparing to benefits of more/different light setups, or wider apertures.
If you want to buy a new body for low light, then get the 6D. I can shoot mine at 25600 and it looks like a crop camera's 3200. 6400 on the 6D is as usable as 800 on most crop cameras.

Hi /p/ stupid question incoming:
Is there an adapter to use a micro four thirds lens on an old four thirds body?
Why not google it or ask in the stupid question thread?
>>2730611
This post should help.
>>2730611
you can't adapt a smaller flange back distance to a larger one. at least not without horrible lense lensing.
I want to do a documentary project on industry in my city. How does one get access to the locations and people I need? I feel like I'd just get laughed at if I called up companies asking for access to their plants for a personal photography project. I've thought about just driving down to the industrial area and taking photos from outside/talking to people, but I don't know how well that will work.
Very much inspired by Salgado's Workers and want to do a (much smaller) project in that vein.

How did Salgado get his fucking tones?
To answer your question OP, just ask the construction companies if you can be a visitor to for your "documentary project"
Construction sites get visitors all the time. You'd get a hard hat, you take your pictures, then you leave. nbd. Worst that happens is they say no. They may say no for a variety of reasons. But I doubt you'll get "laughed at" so stop being a scardey cat and just ask!
Or you can walk around and get close to street workers and take pics. Not a big deal. Dress like a tourist. If you're asian, even better
Boys, I'm buying a G7. I am going to be doing some video projects next year. Is the 14-42mm kit lens good enough for general tomfoolery until I save up for some GOAT crisp primes?
I mean, even the so-so image of the kit lens will be 10x better than the cheapo camcorder I have now, right?
Or should I get the body only and get a different zoom lens?

It's fine yeah, there's no point getting the 14-140 and the only constant aperture zooms are the 12-35 and the 12-40, which, whilst a he'll of a lot better are a fair whack more money
>>2730568
>Is the 14-42mm kit lens good enough for general tomfoolery
Yes it is but don't expect any miracles from it. The 14-42 is a cheap kit lens which can be outperformed quite easily.
be sure to get that ultrasharp 20mm f1.7 pancake lens. It's a beast.
Help me /p/!
So I have been in this huge pickle on what new camera body to get and after watching all the different review videos and comparing specs, I am turning here for help.
So, I shoot a lot of model photography (Mostly in low light scenes) as well as a lot of low light photography overall, so everyone is pointing me to the Sony A7 series of cameras or various Cannon/Nikkon, now I also do a ton of sport video/ short filmaking and I am looking for a camera that does some decent slow motion/low light video as well (4k would be nice to have but not necessary)
So then people say Sony rx10 ii or A7s ii and I know those cameras are not as good for photography, I dont know if I have not luked enough but is there a sort of bridge camera that has very good photo/low light quality, but has very strong almost studio quality video.
Thanks anons <3
>>2730458
OP here again, forgot to mention by budget is arround 5000$ (Lenses + Acc Included)
Sony a7rii?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6kSMd78oTU&t=12m27s
Crop mode video is on par with the a7s in low light but only goes up to 25,600 ISO.
I hadn't ordered the C-41 press kit in a few months and now it's in store pickup only which isn't feasible for me.
What are other people doing for home development now? I know Freestyle sells the Unicolor C-41 kit but I've never used it; anyone have experience with it? I'd like to avoid sending all my color film to a lab.
I'm in the same position as you are. I now use the Unicolor C-41 kit and I can't tell any difference between the two kits. The direction sheet that comes in the kit is the same for both kits.
Hi /p. I'm new to photography and unsure of what camera/lense to buy. I only have $300 to spend for one. Should I wait until I have more cash (that'll be a month from now), or if not could you show/recommend me some cheao DLSR's and lenses?
-pic unrelated/-pic for attention
>>2728755
Pentax K-50 or Nikon D3x00 kit used might work, but whether you better wait depends on what you need.
Also, gear thread?
Yeah, a gear thread definitely sounds like something to look for. And sure, this can also be a gear thread! Thanks for the help Anon!
That depends on what you want to shoot, what you want out of your pictures. I had the same budget, for my needs I got myself a used 40d and a 50mm 1.8, but I don't need the high megapixels or video, or zoom, because my goal is to learn composition and storytelling. If your goals are different you may need to get something different
